On a special episode of Raw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE_Raw), dubbed Thursday Raw Thursday, Michaels vacated the WWF title;[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Michaels#cite_note-HAT-0) he explained to the fans that he was informed by doctors that a knee injury was bad enough that he had to retire.[46] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Michaels#cite_note-45) His speech was regarded as controversial, as Michaels was allegedly unwilling to lose to Bret Hart at WrestleMania 13 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WrestleMania_13) (since it was noted that he was going to have a rematch with Hart at WrestleMania).[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Michaels#cite_note-stopper-5) Michaels contemplated thoughts of retirement and stated that he "had to find his smile again," which he had "lost" somewhere down the line.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Michaels#cite_note-stopper-5) After knee surgery by Dr. James Andrews (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Andrews_%28physician%29), Michaels returned a few months later, briefly teaming with Steve Austin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_Cold_Steve_Austin) to win the WWF Tag Team Titles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Tag_Team_Championship_%28WWE%29).[47] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Michaels#cite_note-46) Michaels reveals in his autobiography, about his real-life feud with Bret Hart, claiming that Bret did interviews on live television claiming that he (Michaels) was faking his whole injury.[48] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Michaels#cite_note-47)

I should've edited this into my post but I didn't. I've seen it a lot around here and I never knew what the hell anyone was talking about so I figured I'd ask.

Out of curiosity, when did you start watching?

Who's HBM?

HBK is HBM.
HBM is Heart Break Man.
There are two reasons why he's HBM.
One theory says with his hair line going up and his bald spot growing he can't be a kid anymore.
The theory I believe it was because of his match at WrestleMania with Flair. "To be the man, you gotta beat the man!" HBK beat the man to become the man, WOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I didn't start watching regularly until 1998 (right after the Mankind/Undertaker HIAC). I had watched a little before that, but didn't follow it much.

HBM came about during a convo me and Jeritron had in the WM thread about the Flair/HBM match where Jeritron dubbed him the Heart Break Man. I then dubbed that it would be his offcial name and the rest is TPWW history.

For that matter, why was Ric Flair able to be "The Man" while also being "The Nature Boy" at 60 years of age? Shouldn't he have been "The Nature Man"? I don't want any answer containing the reasoning that "He's Ric Flair, Ric Fucking Flair, Ric Mother Fucking Flair," or any derivation thereof.

LOL, "The Nature Man". Sounds like a back woods gimmick.

That could've been Regal's moniker back in 98!

I wonder how many takes they had to do while singing that theme due to the group cracking up. Upwards of fifty, I'll bet.

A ton of guys already beat Flair. Flair was never the man.

But only two other guys beat Flair on the grandest stage of them all:

The Macho "Man" and the Dead "Man" Undertaker.

So it makes sense that HBK would become HBM.

Also, Shawn Michaels beat Flair for good. Nobody's done that, and at least until Flair wrestles again, HBK is HBM.
