View Full Version : What's in your Pandora?
So, unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months, you've probably heard about this new online music sensation known as "Pandora Radio."
If you haven't, check it out at www.pandora.com. It's a free music service that allows you to choose certain artists/songs and then it will generate a continuous playlist for you featuring similar artists and songs, allowing you to skip forward, and rank the songs with a plus or a minus.
Who do you have listed in your Stations? I'll post mine later.

I remember the last time this was posted here. I think I listened for a little while, and despite the whole "discover new music" thing, it kep playing the same shit on my MP3 player.

I like Pandora and use it to play music while I am looking at porn because Windows Media Player can't play videos and mp3s at the same time.

It plays music from the same band you typed. I dont mean the first song, because I know its supposed to be the same artist, but after that. gay.

Also, I havn't gotten any results from any artists I havn't heard of already. It's mostly mainstream stuff, that everyone has heard. Gay.

I have the following stations. R. Kelly, Schoolhouse Rocks (Sucks, cause i wanted all schoolhouse rock shit only but played other garbage so just downloaded all the schoolhouse rock songs and don't use it any more, infact will delete it right now.), Louis Armstrong, One For My Baby (song), Joe Walsh, Beatles, Harry Chapin, Slick Rick, Rakim, Bad (song), Dr. Dre, Lean On Me (song), Five Stairsteps, Colin Hay, Doc Severinsen, John Waters (the director based on songs form his cds he has put out), Simon & Garfunkel, Taj Mahal, and Here's that Rainy Day (song).
Also have one playlist with shit ton of random artists my old roommate and I made. We just sat around for awhile and named bunch of artists we liked and put em on there. It was gay though, like it wasn't random enough. Cause like we had variety of rock and rap and shit. And it would play like 15 rock songs then 15 rap songs in a row instead of just anything.

I don't know what kind of music you listen to, but you kind of have to dig to get to some of the obscure and different stuff.
Like you can put in just a song title, and it will find other songs that are similar. And then when you hear an artist that you've never heard of before, you type their name into the search bar and you'll get a similar, but slightly different mix, and in that you may find yet another artist you have never heard of, and then you type their name in, and so on and so forth.
That may sound like a lot of work but the QuickMix feature makes it really easy.
And sorry for assuming everyone had heard of Pandora. I sometimes forget that I go to an entertainment/media school and that everyone I am surrounded with during the majority of my week are total geeks.
They are also mostly all rich bastards with iPhones, and Pandora was recently added as an application for the device, thus they have been talking about it, etc, etc.
It would appear that I am the one underneath a rock...
Here's an example of a stream from entering "Matthew Good Band:"
- MGB - "Load Me Up"
- Foo Fighters - "Baker Street"
- Matt Pond PA - "Emblems" (New)
- Anberlin - "The runways"
- Radiohead - "Bones"
- MGB - "Deep Six"
- Pearl Jam - "Life Wasted"
So let's say I put in Matt Pond PA, which is the band I had never heard of before.
- MPPA - "Measure 3"
- The Shins - "Turn On Me"
- Ben Kweller - "Nothing Happened" (New)
- Heatmeiser - "Half Right" (New)
- MPPA - "A Million Middle Fingers"
- The Dimes - "Letters in the Sea" (New)
- Bishop Allen - "Click, Click, Click, Click" (New)
I dunno. I love it.
Anyways, here's my list:
-Matt Pond PA
-Ben Folds Five
-"Don't Know Why"
-Nat King Cole
-Julie London
-Brand New
-Jack's Mannequin
-Rush
-Neil Young
-Radiohead
-Pixies
-Matthew Good Band
-Marilyn Manson
-Nirvana
-Maritime
-"I'm Eighteen"
-The Grateful Dead
-Ludwig Van Beethoven
-Elliot Smith
-Eminem
-Modest Mouse
-Led Zeppelin
-"Only In Dreams"
I like putting it on mix with all of them (usually sans Beethoven) included. It could play forever.
I think I'll stick with Last.fm
