View Full Version : Have a Crappy Day
Looks like Foley is out of the Smackdown announce chair after Summerslam, his contract expires on September 1st and he has stated in an interview with a Long Island paper that its unlikely he will renew.
I think this is bullshit. If the rumors are true that the reason for him leaving are because Vince McMahon yells at him too much then that is a god awful reason, and it doesn't fall on Foley's part.
JR and Foley were the best announce team I've seen in a long, long time. Their chemistry was perfect and they actually made Smackdown watchable for me, when for a very long time it has not been. Why scream at and feed lines to one of the best natural talkers in the business? So fucking stupid.

Foley has the holier than thou attitude, so I'm not superised about why. I just wish he would swallow his pride and do stuff for the fans.

I don't understand how a guy that dresses like shit, treats his body like shit, and looks like shit can act the way Foley does. He pisses me off and every time I hear stories like this I just lose a little more respect for him and don't really like watching his old matches. He is a fucking stunt man, that is all. The only thing that sperated him from everyone else in the ring is that he was willing to hurt himself worse than anyone else. Fuck him.
Oh, Vince yelled at you, get over your fucking self and announce on Smackdown, you were starting to become the highlight of the night. You could have been remembered for being a great commenator, now you will just be remember as a fill in.

I call nonsense on this.
Foley is not going to go anywhere. He has a perfect job for himself now as a commentator and I dont doubt that he will renew his contract.
WWE wouldnt have made him the SmackDown color man if they didnt plan on keeping him, they've obviously been planning on keeping him there for a while.
All in all, I think this article is a huge load of crap and Mick is going to be the SD! commentator for th forseeable future!

Yeah, execpt that Foley already said he isn't going to renew his contract because he is a petty bitch. Though he will be back when he realizes he is a sham and wants to sell another book to try to mask his own worthlessness.

Well if it DOES happen (I still doubt fOley is dumb enough to throw away such a job) then I think Josh Matthews should be brought in to commentate on Smackdown as his replacement. Either that or Matt Striker who was pretty cool on ECW this week.

If this is true, then come on... it's not like we'll never see Foley again now is it?

It is true and we will see foley the next time he wants to sell a book.

First, let's be clear: saying "probably not" is not the same as saying "no". Sure, I'm crossing my fingers that Foley will stay, but I'm not quite holding my breath. And, sorry BDC, but having someone badger your ear for a two hour stint during which you're supposed to focus on what's in front of you, around you, and the man right beside you? Well, I bet that gets really hard to deal with.

I am with BDC on this one.
Vince is the boss, if he does not like how anything is going he has every right to yell. He is after all the one paying you to be there. Now if Mick would just do whatever it is (I do not believe they states what Vince yells to him about) Vince wants, it would be solved.
Most likly Vince does this with everyone, therefore why the hell is he crying. Knowing your job before you sign up is a good thing. Do not sign up then cry about it.

This appears to be standard fare for the announce team, and I doubt Mick, a man with as much experience with the company as he has, went into this scenario blind. It's possible, but it kind of defies any probability.
I really do hate to agree with BDC on this point, but yeah.
Anyway, he hasn't said he's quitting, as pointed out, so he may be back. Lots of WWE employees have talked about leaving only to re-up. It could be negotiation, it could be that he really wants to quit. Either way, he will be back.

It seems to be the way announcers are treated. But its also a classic negotiation ploy for more money or other bonuses. Maybe he's got a new book on the way or just wants a better deal. Or maybe he's not renewing his commentator contract, but will be signing a new contract for something else in the company. Foley as a manager or in some other on-screen role would be a good move.
I also agree that he and JR have an awesome chemistry and Foley's style is brilliant.
Maybe he wants back in to something more than announcing.

I really think that, at this point in his career, Mick Foley can do whatever the fuck he wants. Three best selling autobiographies, a novel, multiple DVD's/VHS' about him on which he collects royalties, action figures, main event pay-offs; Mick Foley is probably not worried about money. If you've read his books, you know how much he has saved and pinched his pennies over the years.
I think the reason he came in to do it is because A) his respect for Jim Ross and the prospects of working beside him, B) his love of the product and wrestling in general, and C) to help the company that made him.
In a way, he's giving his talents, his mind, his vocabulary and personality to the WWE as a favor. Who else do they have right now? Foley is already better than Tazz, JBL, Coachman, and Josh Matthews. I would even go as far as to say that he's on par with Michael Cole and Joey Styles. And not because Vince has molded him into a Sports Entertainment Announcer, like he has ALL of the others, but because he's Mick fucking Foley, he is a great talker with a great mind for the business, and he loves what he's talking about. It just comes out so naturally from this guy who we have seen give his life for this stupid god damn business, so with his words comes automatic respect from the audience.
But because Vince isn't in CONTROL of Mick Foley, he isn't acceptable to commentate Smackdown the way that he'd like to do it. Fuck, Vince. Just go back to announcing for Christ's sake.

Stuntmen usually don't have long, vicious, powerful, emotional, adverse and extremely well spoken monologues. Those are usually left for the actors, the performers, the ones who are on the marquee and make the money.
And if you say that Mick Foley can't cut an amazing promo then you are simply not paying attention, or are too stuck in your ignorant mindset to comprehend what is going on in front of you; blinded by blindness itself.
Mick Foley the performer was far more than just a stuntman.

I think this could be another swerve angle pointed at IWC/smark
so that when foley "shoots" about it on tv we will all smark out
of course I think that about everything that I read on the internet lol
Except it would also kill off their "Where is Vince?" angle if he is giving Foley instructions, you stupid fuck.

He is right about Foley's talent as a commentator. Foley is one of the best commentators to have ever came to the table. Yes, JBL was better but I think it was because he was working with cole and putting him down. If JBL worked with JR, I dont think he would be so good.
Really, Smackdown just didnt sound right this week with Tazz and JR.
I hope WWE comes to the senses and convinces Mick to stay.

My gut tells me that Vince did not just all of a sudden do this. It isn't like Mick is new to the WWE, so he should know how it works. If he dosn't, find out before you take the job.

You just spoke in a circle.
His job, save for ONS and D2D, was not commentary -- at least that I recall. I remember him as an in-ring guy. So, if he was offered the position, knowing he has nothing but love for the business in general, of course he'd accept -- if nothing else, he may feel he owed them the gesture after their rocky past. But if you think Vince said "It's just commentary, you'll be color, so add some flavor and whatnot to Michael Cole's play by play. Oh, and try not to mind my incessant screaming thruoughout the show," then I bet you're a nut.

Okay, JBL didn't suck so much (he's better than some of the other color guys they've had), I just wasn't a big fan. His constant putdowns on Cole were entertaining, but Foley is more knowledgeable in my opinion. I liked his chemistry with Cole, I just couldn't take listening to him for an entire show. Those Around the Ring segments they did were great though.
I definitely prefer the Bradshaw character to JBL, but that's a discussion for another time.

Now I see why KK argues with everything you say. Mick Foley worked with the company how many years? Your going to tell me this was something no one else but the people doing commentary knew about? ARG, you know what, fine you win. It is not even worth it to tell you that you are wrong again.
