<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, I'm sure people who talk to me have noticed that sometimes I just randomly log off of MSN, Soulseek, AIM, or whatever. Well this is either because A: the program simply bodges up, or B: My computer shuts down

Well, 90% of the time it's because of choice B. I could just be on the computer, listening to music, posting on the boards, playing a game, or whatever, and then suddenly the screen goes black and my whole PC shuts off, only for it to turn back on.

The only problems are:

A) I get shitloads of annoying pop-ups when my computer is first turned on
B) My computer is slow when it is first turned on
C) I have to get back into whatever it was I was doing before.

So what I'm asking is, what the f</>uck is causing my PC to shut down like this, and what can I do to keep it from happening? I've put up with this problem for about a month, maybe month and a half, and frankly now I'm sick of it.</font>

Depending on the operating system you are using:

1. Do a virus scan/torjan scan/spy-ware/ad-ware scan to see if those are causing your problems at all.

2. http://download.com.com/3000-2094-1539340.html?tag=lst-0-1

Get that program. Then go into the control panel after installing the program and click on the startup icon. Check to see what programs occur when you startup your comptuer( you can enable/disable which programs you want too start)

3. Do a windows update

4. www.microsoft.com

search for a possible shutdown patch to try and fix your problem

I'm getting the exact same problem. I'm also having to PC go into standby mode a lot and don't know how the fu</>ck that happens.

My bro just stuck a load of Bluetooth sh</>it on here. Could that be at fault?

Should also add I'm using Windows 2000 and everything has been sweet until recently. Fault usually happens when on Championship Manager and listening to music through WMP. Haven't tried on Real.

If you've downloaded the newest version of AIM a month or so ago, most definately run a spyware scan. After downloading it, my computer ran like a slug about a week or two later...ran a scan and had almost 200 WildTangent spyware files. I got rid of them and rebooted, and haven't had a problem since.

sadio you are a freaking legend dude. Unfortunately, this is all like Bulgarian to me. I'm thinking of completely rebooting and going from there.

I myself am also running Windows 2000. Never had any problems with it( compared to when I had windows 98 lol).

Alot of times this has to do with bad transistors on the mother board. This was especially common in IBM model computers a year or 2 ago. Check to see if you're stil under warranty with your computer company or the store you bought it from. If you're familiar with the inside of your computer at all you can check yourself. Transistors look very similar to small D cell batteries on the computer. If you notice any of them near the processor that are bulged at the top or have orange/reddish discharge on top of them then its definitely your transistors.

Yeah, the new AIM is shit and has spyware in it...wish I hadn't downloaded it.

As for your problem Big Vito, I would follow the steps in the sticky in this thread and basically just clean up your comp by running spyware and virus scans, deleting temp internet files to save up space, and running windows update.
