Watched the first episode of Skins last night. Not bad, not great but I think I'll stick with it for the season. Anyone watch it? Is Season 2 better?

I recorded this other show on BBCA called Primeval but haven't watched yet...anyone know anything about it/is it worth my time?

For reference I enjoy:

Doctor Who
Torchwood
Red Dwarf
Chef
MI-5/Spooks
Coupling
Life On Mars
Hustle
Robin Hood

Primeval on BBCA? weird since its an ITV show - which I would not advise anyone to watch, the sfx are a fucking joke, the writing is pathetic and the actors - jesus, pretty sure you will want to kill them all after watching it.

And Skins first season is actually pretty good, season 2 just lost it though, try it, but I think its not worth it.

Spooks, Hustle and Life on Mars are all pretty decent and polished, they're not of the standard of the top US Drama's (HBO stuff) but they're pretty damn entertaining.

As far as Skins goes I agree with Kano, first season is good, second season is ehhhh, dunno, way depressing and trying too hard to be Rules of Attraction. It always seemed to be one of those 'random without good reason' shows to me, but I doubt that is something which concerns the target audience:D

The Chester-scum ( :p ) is correct in Life on Mars, which is the goods. Ashes to Ashes is decent also, though not as good as Life on Mars. Ashes does have the advantage of Keeley Hawes, who is hot.

Primeval is a bag of wank.

Also Coupling is kinda shit but also kinda good because of it

Ashes to Ashes was very much worse off than Life on Mars

Hmm..thanks for the info.

I'll give Skins a few more episodes, and I probably won't waste my time with Primeval.

Can't wait for Ashes to Ashes to air over here.

Never ever watch Primeval. It's just so bad

And you say you like Chef, as in that old Lenny Henry show? 'Cause that's pretty bad imo :-\ Check out Gavin and Stacy, Spaced, Top Buzzer and Black Books on the sitcom side of things (apart from the obvious Office, Fawlty Towers & Peep Show) Don't really watch enough 'primetime' TV to be able to recommend things like Spooks, Hustle etc. Also, check out a show called 'Funland'. Dark, kind of creepy show but pretty amazing

Dunno, think Chef is hilarious. Spaced is on my Netflix queue (just got released here in America a couple weeks ago) so it's a long wait.

Haven't seen Gavin & Stacy (though I know a US remake has been talked about), Top Buzzer, or Black Books. I've heard Black Books is good though and it's the only one available on DVD in the US. Also, I've heard decent things about Phoenix Nights. How is that...even though it's not on DVD here either, damn it.

I really liked the first season of skins. Didn't think much of the second. Don't even think I bothered watching all of it.

DAMN IT.....

I have the first 3 episodes of Primeval taped at home on my DVR and have yet to watch it. Now all of you people are telling me how bad it is....

Damn perhaps I should just delete to create more space.

Yeah I didn't bother. Deleted it.

K so just finished Season 2 of Skins. God damn this show is depressing. Season 1 had a more light hearted feel to it but Season 2 was pretty much depressing all the way through.

Still enjoyed it though. Didn't really see the point in the Sketch character.

Good timing. Season 3 starts in like a week. Although they changed the entire cast

Boondock Saint
01-05-2009, 05:57 PM
Yeah I guess Effy is the only remaining cast member. I read they want to change casts every two seasons or something.

BBCAmerica won't be airing Season 3 for sometime I assume though. Nor will itunes have it to download. Bah

I would suggest 4onDemand but I'm guessing that won't work over there without Hotspot Shield or something. Go for streams and torrents. Be available like the day after

Primeval is sludge. I sat through a couple of episodes, why i don't know..they both sucked. Never been able to sit through and episode of Skins...think i'm too old to "get it" :o

The new ITV series, Demons, is also a bag of wank.

Give me Buffy and Angel any day.

WTF is up with Philip Glennister (sp?) dodgy-assed American accent in Demons? Nearly as bad as Amanda Tapping's (Carter from SG1) English accent in "Sanctuary."

I liked Season 2 of Skins. It wasn't amazing, but was good enough.

The new Torchwood should be good. Seen them filiming bits.

The Inbetweeners. Picked up the first (and only so far) season on DVD a few days ago after seeing a random episode a few months ago. Watched like the first 4 eps in order last night. FUNNY AS FUCK. Only problem is I'm not sure how the humour will translate. The DVD case says 'Peep Show meets American Pie'. I do kind of agree. First ep is below, gets funnier as it goes on, especially when they start getting on at one of the guys about his dad 'being gay'.

So Primeval seems to have been cancelled after its third series. I had actually started to get into it this season. It was definitly its strongest, even though there were major cast changes.

I'm surprised ITV cancelled it, seen as it was a quite a popular show. And there is a big cliffhanger which won't be resolved.

I guess Skins Season 3 is airing over here sometime in August on BBCA. Torchwood S3 in July

Still awaiting word on Robin Hood S3

Skins was all filmed in Bristol. I find it really weird watching it, as I pretty much know every location they film from, very surreal

So apparently the show "Survivors" is going to air on BBC America later this year. Sounds interesting enough.

Anyone seen it?

El Vaquero de Infierno

Meh. A rehash of a 80's (?) show.

I know parts of it was filmed in the area that I live.

I saw the first episode, but i found it naff. Plus, it has the guy who played Reza Naiyeer in season 2 of 24. he was annoying then, and he was annoying in that one episode that I caught.

Watch the Inbetweeners, a much better teen show

I knew I recognised him from somewhere.

I got fairly bored with it after a few episodes - probably worth giving it a chance though.

I've also got the show "Ideal" sitting on my DVR. Haven't checked it out yet.

Ideal is okay. If you can get ahold of Top Buzzer somehow (which might be tricky) do it. Like Ideal but a million times better

Just finished Doctor Who Season 4 last night. Good times. Loved the huge ass team-up at the end.

El Vaquero de Infierno
07-11-2009, 07:44 AM
I dunno.

I find with the Dr Who finales that they go waaaay over the top, and eventually they will have nowhere else to go.

Season 4 was far better than season 3, though. The woman who plays Martha had no personality. That, and she was pretty much a stand in for Rose.

Boondock Saint
07-11-2009, 05:57 PM
I hope Rose's story is finished. Kinda tired of her.

I liked Martha and Donna, too bad about her though.

The whole of Season 3 was fucking fantastic.

If anyone in the US has BBC America, I strongly recommend you watch it when it comes on.

Apparently it was designed to go either way - hopefully since the ratings were so good, there'll be another series.

El Vaquero de Infierno

Well if they can still produce stories that were as strong as this, then I think they should.
