Has this rule always been a part of wrestling or was it "invented" at some point?

Because throughout my entire life this has been the thing that bothered me the most about wrestling. It was so illogical to not just smash your opponent with a steel chair first thing in every title match if you were the champ.

Does MMA or boxing or anything have a similar rule or what?

In legit sports a loss is a loss and the title is gone.

In pro-wrestling it's not that way cause it's a work. It's a way to keep the belt on a heel with out jobbing the face. The kayfabe is you have to defete the champ, actually beat him to get the belt. But you "dont get the winners purse" if you get DQ'd/counted out. You keep the title, but you don't get the money.

I don't know, it's more the heel not always getting DQ'd to keep the belt, rather than the rule itself that always bothered me. The rule makes sense: you can't cheat (and get caught) and expect to win a title for doing so.

yeah but on the flip side you could just have one of your buds run out from the back kick you get you DQ'd so you win the belt
