So Stargate Atlantis is cancelled and will end in January. They are apparently going the movie route like with SG-1. This depresses me. SG-1 was my fave but Atlantis filled the void after that got canned for no reason. The only good news out of this is that Sci-Fi has apparently greenlit a third series called Stargate Universe. It is supposedly a hybrid between SG and Star Trek kinda.
All I can say is this better not suck or I am boycotting Sci-Fi forever.

Sci-fi are cock munchers on a grand scale. What reason did they give for cancelling it?

Apparently the rising cost of producing it - plus the state of the US dollar has affected it, what with it being filmed in Canada and all. It'll seemingly carry on in TV/DVD movies though, SG-1 style.

Atlantis was lame, and I haven't watched it since SG-1 was canceled. Can't say as I care. The idea of a Star Trekish show is a real turn off.
Sci Fi doesn't "get it," nro will they.
I always loved SG-1 (felt it went on a bit too long tho) but never could get into Atlantis

The last couple seasons of SG-1 were some of the best. They canceled it either too soon (Because the Ori plot rocked) or too late (Because it dragged for a couple seasons).

Yeah, SG-1 was the tits. The first movie, Ark of Truth, was GREAT. Rented it a couple nights ago, and couldn't be happier. It ties up alot of that lovely Ori cliffhanger ending from the series. Be ready for a few amazing twists.
Gonna rent Continuum tomorrow, it better be good, although I have no idea what purpose it could have as I can't figure out who will be the bad guy. Only option left is Baal or something since he is still lurking.
About Universe though, I am optimistic. Being with the Trek theme may not hurt it if it is as awesome as TNG; if it imitates one of the other Trek series though, it may suck donkey balls. TNG and DS9 were the only ones I enjoyed. Besides, it does give them alot of options. The story apparently revolves around 2 ancient ships, one sent out to seed the entire Universe with stargates, and another one behind it with its own gate that allows the crew to travel to any gate in any galaxy. Using 7 chevrons on the gate allows direct travel within a galaxy, using the 8th chevron allows travel to different galaxies, and using the 9th allows travel to the ancient ship. The fact that there will be more than 2 galaxies involved gives them alot of creative room for new alliances/enemy forces. Kinda interested to see where they go with it. Also wondering how long it will take them to find a 'new' ancient homeworld.

For the record, Continuum was a letdown comparted to AoT. I made a thread about the movie lately. Also, yes. It involves Ba'al. The two movies were to tie up the two remaining storylines. The Ori and Ba'al.

So will those 2 movies be it for SG-1? That sucks.

I think they had said 3 SG-1 movies. Not sure.
Still kinda mad Atlantis is done after this season. Season has been great so far.

Two. However, they've "hinted" that if they sell well, there may be a future for the series in a series of direct to DVD movies. If they're between the two we've got in caliber, I'd be happy with that.
However, it's worth pointing out that usually this is a technique for them to milk some extra sales out of a franchise they have no plans on continuing. In this case, it'd be more the series, not the franchise, but you get the point.
They didn't get me to buy anything I didn't already want, so if there's no more SG-1, I won't feel like they lied to me. It's just that while they keep hinting at it, it's most likely still a ploy. Plus, it's Sci Fi. They bought the rights to a new Firefly movie/series after Serenity did so well on DVD (The movie, the success of Firefly on DVD is what got us the movie in the first place), and have sat on it for...How long has it been since Serenity came to DVD? About that long.

In this new Stargate series I'd like to see the introduction of the Furlings, which have been mentioned in the course of the original series, but never seen. Though some say the aliens from the episode with the mayan skulls and daniel's grandfather (series 3) may be the Furlings. But anyways, possibly something sinister about them and a reason why they haven't been seen in our galaxy
Maybe bring back the Knox as well, as after the 2nd series of sg1 we never saw them, and being one of the "big four" races, they could of been more developed.
But then again it is supposed to be an entirely separate series from sg1, so I doubt that would happen.

The crystal skulls and the motifs involving the big alien from the third season was distinct from what little we've seen of furling writings (From the Torment of Tantalus episode, for example). We've seen several alien races who oppose the Goa'uld in one form of the other.
Anyway, it seems reasonable that the Furlings may have left the galaxy, since the Asgard and Ancients, two of the four members of the council, went elsewhere. Even the Nox may have, given we only see them at a wildlife preserve and in episodes where they are "off world."
