so, just got a PS3, can anyone recommend any good games?
I've had a 360 for a while, and am looking for something new

Sell it, buy a PS2 and bunch of games.

lol. After FF12 & GT4, there was no need for a PS2

GTA4 for me sucked ass, IMO highly over-rated, and you have a 360, FF13 will be out on it eventually.

I meant Gran Turismo 4. GTA4 seemed like an ass-sucker to start, but I'm slowly getting into it. FF13 is a must have but I'm after something fun right now

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. I need to finish it, still, but that's only because I got so much good shit for my 360 all at once.

Also, GTAIV grows on you, then becomes ass.

My bad, you meant GT4, what a second, why did you buy a PS3?

actually this could be a reason why.
ALso, the one game I played and very much enjoyed on PS3 was Resistance: Fall of Man

I played GT4 to death, and was lame enough to be suckered in with a couple of new cars and the same old tracks so much I got GT5: prologue... tis alright-ish.
Just got Resistance t'other day, haven't had a good look yet, tbh after CoD 4 all fps look a little lack luster
*edit* checking gamespot for Drake's Fortune now, thanks guys.

Folklore, Uncharted, MLB 08, and MGS4 would be the biggest ones on my list that are out now. Heavenly Sword is short, but really good (though they said it's getting trophies that would up the replay value of that game some).

I never liked GT, because you could not damage your car, call me a minimalist, but smashing your car into a wall at 100mph should not make it look in pristine condition.
I played Prologue, it was ok, but horrible over-priced.
I would put Resistance on par with CoD4, It may not be the same, but the campaign and story are very good, and the weapons are awesome.

Hmmm, I got Heavenly Sword the same time as resistance, I might wait until the trophies become active before I play it (it's my gamerscore gene acting up I guess).
Resistance as good as CoD you say? Sounds promising :)

I didnt finish it before I sold it, but was near the very end, the weapons are amazing, there are skill points to collect, all the weapons are balanced the way they should be, some epic-assed fights, also you will very much like the health system, one of the best in any shooter IMHO

LOL trophies. I can't rec RFOM, because I hate FPS, but it is very popular. MGS4 is awesome if you've suffered an anuerism and are unable to comprehend how shitty the story is....

Mmm, shitty stories.. I think I had my fill of those with NFS: Pro Street & Amped 3 :P

I have heard from my friend who is an avid MGS4 fan, he was very disappointed at what he called an interactive movie.
I will vouch for RFOM, It is one of the best shooters I have played, Tied with CoD4, just below Halo 2

MGS4's story starts out slow with the army stuff and all of that (it's more of the gameplay that drives that half of the game).
The story begins to really pick up during the 3rd act. Assuming you haven't gotten that far yet, trust me, it only gets better as the game goes along.

Yahtzee (The guy who does Zero Punctuation) had a great little rant on a couple of the dumber plot points from MGS4 up on his site, fullyramblomatic.com. It contained spoilers, but if you've watched the mov...Game, or don't give a shit about "ruining" an already bad story, it's hilarious.

I'll have a look, tbh I've not been expecting much from the story anyway.
Is no-one going to recommend Vampire Rain: Altered Species or Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli? :P

Also, I have no problem with interactive movies, but Kojima's attempt at self fellatio goes pretty overboard. I know a lot of the estimates are exaggerated, but between crappy gameplay, a story that even the least discerning gamers should balk at, and the volume of cutscenes, it's still just WRONG.

From what I read, Vampire Rain was total shit on the 360 and wasn't going to be any better on the PS3. It had a lame, overdone story and horrendous controls. I haven't tried it or heard about it, but from what I read, I think it's best to forget it exists.

so, I should try Lost: Via domus instead? :P
I really thought MGS4 would be a good play, I'm glad I came here first

It is. Don't let two people be the only word of mouth you get on any game (no one can please everyone).

MGS2 was a good game in the series, MGS3 is much tougher because of the Camo index and a new thing to worry about.
I (respectfully) disagree with FA, though. I thoroughly enjoyed a lot about the story and it was to close out some of the loose ends that the first three made.
You'll finally know who the Patriots are at the end of the game.
Many had a bit of quarrels about the ending, and who Meryl actually marries, but it made alot of sense when you consider certain aspects of the story that the other three games made, and the real surprise is the return of Big Boss.
The Metal Gear Mk II is fun to use, but you may forget you have it as a tool (I did). Drebin's Shop is very useful for new weapons (the new weapons system was better than I thought it would be with how you had to "detag" weapons to use them). The graphics and sound are THE best I've seen and heard on ANY system, and the controls are fluid and highly responsive.
The story is something that takes some understanding of what's going on (there's alot you have to take in and can overwhelm you if you don't understand the nature of how Hideo Kojima likes to tell a story).

MSG2, the gameplay was fun, the story and the location were retched though, I mean the first 10% of the game is in one boring place, and the second half is just annoying, but loved the game play, there is one more small problem I have
Raiden
It was not tougher exactly, at least for me, it was more fun, and more realistic because obviously wearing white camo in the dark is fucking stupid, I liked the health system, and that you had to survive.

Yeah, for real, MGS4 is absolutely incredible. The story is absolutely great -if- you understand it. Which means you need a pretty good understanding of all the previous games. Honestly, IMO, it is one of the best games ever made. Not the best like most ratings say it is, but definately top 10. It is a must have for PS3, as is Uncharted. Also get Ratchet and Clank for PS3, amazing game too.

Ok, I think someone is shitting with me, either you or my buddy, as he is a big MGS Fan, and he said that the story was boring, and I quote "an interactive movie". I hope he is wrong really, as I plan on getting a PS3 again in the future. Only a 60GB one, so I can play my PS2 games on it. I hope this is as good as you say it is.

If you dont get it it would be boring. Some of the cutscenes are loooonnnggg and there are alot of them. I loved them though, they kept me enthralled the whole time, especially the one at the end of act 3. It kinda is an interactive movie of sorts, but it is masterful at pulling it off. Do you believe it is shitty or do you believe all the perfect reviews it got? Your call.

I was hyped about GTA4, it had 10/10 reviews, I wouldnt give it higher then a 7.5.
I suppose I could rent it, and play it for a week, and maybe then buy it.

Rockstar took out so much that made GTA the franchise it was.
The intention for realism killed it there.

Indeed. I am still holding onto the belief that this was just an issue of getting everything right before adding all the bells and whistles into the sequels. Kinda like how GTA3 was pretty barebones compared to VC and ESPECIALLY SA.

I just recently got a PS3 also, 1st one's HD went up a week and a half after I bought it. Thankfully, Gamestop replaced it free of charge, thank god I didn't buy at Circuit City :eyeroll: So far, MGS4 is a ton of fun. I mean, I don't see why everybody's having such a shit-fit over the story, It's Kojima for christ's sake. He just really likes to pontificate & go on about ideaoligies, I thought MGS2 had it worse. Soul Calibur 4 is fiendishly addictive with the character creation, you have to pay attention with what you equip & how it affects your stats. Meh, I'll be back later to add more.

So the big selling point is the story, but you don't see why people are complaining that Kojima's a sack of shit?
Can I get you to run PR when my book hits the shelves?
