Is it because the straight edge gimmick also includes 'no harmful gamma radiation from mobile phones'.

They did add a few I'd say. Emo guy and girl in the bottom left and guy with thick glasses right above the guy. Goth girl two up from the bottom left and another geeky guy with glasses above her.
