View Full Version : Chris Benoit to drop the world title back to Triple H in a couple of months

- The current plan is to have Chris Benoit as a ‘short term’ champion, where it’s expected he’ll lose his World title belt to Triple H within the next couple of months.

All I have to say is WHY, WHY, WHY OH WHY!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll believe it when I see it

I really think if the WWE want to emphasise a new style of wrestling, they have the 2 best people to do it as the champions.

I'm sorry, I just can't take this as a joke after two years of torture from Triple H refusing to put talent over. Do I even ahve to go over the list?

Calm down. Enjoy Benoit's reign. And know this: "The industry is in a slump" can only be used as an excuse for the low ratings for so long. If fans reward the WWE for putting Benoit and Eddie at the top of the company with more viewers and more buyrates, Vince won't ignore it. He may be many things, but he's not stupid. Strictly from a business standpoint, Triple H isn't going to run the show forever.

Do not fear though, Chris Benoit is a short term champion, but Eddie Guerrero (the more talented of the two), is in the main event slot for the long haul.

It going to suck if the belt goes back to HHH.

Ya I don't expect for Chris Benoit to hold the belt for that long. Maybe a month or 2 tops. But I hope he doesn't drop the belt to Triple H. He should lose to a good heel like Kane

It sucks ass, but as long as they don't Jerichofy his reign, then it's too bad.

I believe I've been saying this for a long time.

What everyone has to realize is that Hunter will ALWAYS be on top of whatever brand he is on. So anyone who gets the title on Hunter's show is just getting it as a loan. This reign for Benoit is no different than HBK in 02 and Goldberg in 03. Its not clear how long this reign will be because of Hunter's movie stuff, but whenever he wants it back, Benoit will be dropping the title to Hunter.

Eddie is in a different situation in that the WWE has a real belief in him, and also because he doesn't have HHH breathing down his neck wanting the title back. Eddie could keep his title for the better part of the year, but Benoit will be lucky if he's still champ by Summer.

I can believe that this will happen and it probably will. I think the WWE needs a different champ and should go a different path. Even though Triple H is one of my top 2 favorite wrestlers I think that he should go a different path right now and do something else instead of going for the heavyweight title.

He better have at least three months. If they're smart, they'll make him a fighting champ as well. That way, even if his reign is relatively short, it'll be impressive because he defends the belt so often and doesn't back down from anyone.

I think Benoit and Guerrero are going to be given short title reigns just to establish them as Main Eventers, as replacements to Goldberg and Brock.

I wouldn't trust this rumor to be true. I've rarely seen a rumor about a title change to be true, and the only times they do come true are when there's an injury or a wrestler quitting or if it's just a lucky guess. The WWE might not have written the next couple PPV's in stone yet. More likely than not, it started as some dumb kid trolling it up and somebody took it seriously.

Heh, I think this is total BS. Not as in "OMG I hate this, this is BS," but if it were true, I'd think that. Anyway, I doubt it, I really do. Benoit may not have the longest reign, but I don't think he'll be dropping the title to Triple H. Everyone is so focused on Triple H always whoring the belt, that they seem to forget that Chris Benoit went over the champ clean, in a Triple Threat, for the title, at WM20, by SUBMISSION, like eight days ago.

SeanMC

You don't need super-intelligence to know HHH is going to win the title within a few months, i mean everyone else is practically buried now cos of hhh, what other main eventers are there?Orton maybe, but hes obviously gonna be in the future, right now i don't think hes ready for the main event but im clueless as to who else could take HHH's+benoits spot, unless they give hbk another reign...f*ck the wwe storyline writers for creating this whole mess though.

I know that, but everytime it looks like Benot's going somewhere, he always ends up feuding with A-Train. :'(

I'm going to crap my pants if he and A-Train end up on the same show tonight.

Don't worry. I'm sure Benoit jobbing the title to Michaels in Edmonton will show you a fine example of what faith can really do.

Rock Bottom
03-22-2004, 06:36 PM
Just kidding, I really don't see that happening or hope not, but I couldn't resist the urge to crack on Michaels.

Anyhow... I agree with PH. But you know what would be really lame, is if Benoit's title got vacated tonight. I know it won't happen, (knock on wood), but that would explain Benoit still being over Triple H and not being champ. Sick thoughts.

Yeah, it's dark thoughts like these that force me to have faith. I believe in Benoit. He is the next Bret Hart.

***RAW SPOILERS***

With HHH going to Smackdown I don't think that Eddie will be jobbing to HHH right away. It's pretty obvious that having Eddie as Champion works. With Buyrates, attendance and ratings up the WWE realizes that Guerrero is one of the more popular champions in a long time....

Although, yes HHH will eventually get a title reign on Smackdown, I don't think that even Vince is stupid enough to risk making Eddie look bad right now.

tucsonspeed6
03-23-2004, 09:56 AM
DId you see the way Eddie was handling HHH last night? HHH looked down right sluggish and Eddie was totally taking advantage of it. You could almost immediately see the difference in emphasis on each show, Raw focusing on strength and power, SD focusing on speed and skill. I'm pretty sure it was done that way on purpose because Trips was totally selling it. I doubt he'll dominate over there like he did on Raw. I don't think they'll take it so far as to make a gimmick out of it like with Matt Hardy, but he'll have some competition. BTW, the brawl at the end of the show was awesome.

GET THE BELT OFF BENOIT AND GET IT OFF OF HIM NOW! I don't care who beats him, just get the the friggin title off of that boring MF'er! His promos sound like he's been doing this for a total of 2 days, not 18 years. If you can't promo and work the mic, then you can't be champ, it's as simple as that. wrestling is not a real sport, it's predetermined, hence athletic ability is a null point! We need charisma and mic skills on a champ, not "Technical" moves! Put the belt on Jericho.,.... anyone but Benoit!

by that logic, as wrestling is pre-determined, we may as well not bother having the actual matches, just have the results decided and broadcast. I can understand if you don't find Benoit's style interesting, plenty of 12 year old don't, I'm sure you all would prefer DX back, but Benoits ability to put on an entertaining match is without doubt relevant. The match is a means to an end, I'd rather have the means entertain me. Perhaps you wouldn't.

Lamuella
03-23-2004, 01:44 PM
yeah, Benoit sucks so much. He isn't the single best wrestler in the entire company or anything.

Lamuella
03-23-2004, 01:45 PM
having athletic ability is FAR from a null point. Having athletic ability means you can put on a decent match. It's the difference between Angle/Guererro and Mark Henry/Viscera

tucsonspeed6
03-23-2004, 03:55 PM
Mark Henry v. Viscera in an Iron Man match... The whole ring better be one big sponge or the front row would go home soggy.

Corkscrewed
03-23-2004, 04:32 PM
No they wouldn't. They'd ditch five seconds into the match, thus avoiding the splash zone altogether.
