Masato Yoshino automatically raises any match he's in to no less than 3 stars.

It does look pretty fucking awesome. When Austin Aries vs. Nigel McGuinness is one of your first round matches, you can expect a good tournament.

Also worth pointing out is that El Generico and Masato Yoshino will be opponents in the first round, albeit with Nick Jackson in there. Not saying Jackson is bad, but he's a fairly green talent, apparently (with a world of potential), that seems to be more of a tag team guy at this stage of his career. My bet is that Jackson is just there to get pinned by Yoshino.

Who is everyone picking as a winner for this thing? Not that it will make the process of getting to the winner any less awesome.
Right now, I'm actually seeing a Bryan Danielson vs. Chris Hero final, for whatever reason. I can see Hero taking the entire thing.

Is Low Ki on good terms with PWG? I thought there may have been some trouble with him recently. I did scan over him as a guy with a really good shot at winning, though -- especially seeing as he isn't likely to go to TNA, ROH or the WWE anytime soon.
I'm thinking that Kenny Omega wins his first round match, and then moves into the second round to have a really impressive showing with one of the "superstars" of independent wrestling. For example: Omega ends Bonham's winning streak, and then hangs with Bryan Danielson for a while before he's beaten. Apparently Omega has a lot of talent, so hopefully this allows him to show it.

From what I understand Low-Ki is working for them a lot lately and I know he isn't working the west coast right now.
And yeah, Omega has a lot of positive hype around him right now.
Mr. Nerfect

That hype could make him a darkhorse pick to make it surprisingly far in the tournament. Or not.

And one last thing, PWG booking is horrible whenever other promotion's champions are involved.
Omega beats Bonham
McGuiness beats Aries
Low Ki beats Roderick Strong
Nick Jackson will be eliminated followed by Yokosuka
TJ Perkins will job, well because he's TJ Perkins
Danielson beats Richards
Chris Hero beats Necro Butcher because Necro Butcher is a jobber
Joey Ryan beats Lost, easy call there.

I agree with pretty much all of those, except I think Aries will go over McGuinness. Not sure why. Also, I'm not clear on what you mean in regards to the three-way. I'm fairly certain Yoshino will win the match, and it is only one fall, so I think he'll pin Nick Jackson.
Kenny Omega, Austin Aries, Low Ki, Masato Yoshino, Chuck Taylor, Bryan Danielson, Chris Hero and Joey Ryan for the second round. From that, I think Aries goes over Omega, who does get a good showing. I want to go with Masato Yoshino for Block B winner, even if it goes against Destor's pick of Low Ki as winner of the whole thing. I'm going to regret that one, I can feel it. Bryan Danielson beats Chuck Taylor in a match that shows off Taylor's skills (Desty, pretend there are quotation marks around "skills" if it makes you feel better), and Chris Hero beats Joey Ryan. Block A versus Block B sees Austin Aries go over Masato Yoshino, and Block C vs. Block D sees Bryan Danielson narrowly defeat Chris Hero. I'm calling an A vs. C final, with Bryan Danielson going over. Wasn't he just PWG World Champion recently? I think they like him, especially with his stock growing oversees.
For some reason, though, the idea of a Kenny Omega vs. Bryan Danielson final keeps crawling into my head.

Night one:
Pro Wrestling Guerrilla presented it's 4th annual Battle Of Los Angeles Tournament in Burbank, CA in front of around 400 fans. The show started late due to technical difficulties, but everyone booked for the event made it to the show. Things started out with each participant being introduced and everyone taking a group picture with the BOLA trophy.
Match 1: TJ Perkins over Chuck Taylor: Taylor started off with various Lucha style armdrags. TJ would later gain control. He introduced some brass knuckles in the middle of the match, which resulted in Taylor stealing them and using them for the victory. After the match, the referee saw the brass knuckles, and disqualified Taylor and awarded the match to TJ.
Match 2: Brandon Bonham over Kenny Omega: Really good match. Lots of comedy from Omega in this match, which also saw him push his tights into his ass, giving himself a wedgie. The final moments of the match started to get exciting, with several counters, and Bonham picking up the victory with a pin following a Canadian Destroyer. Kenny Omega received a "please come back" chant from the fans after the match.
Match 3: Nigel McGuinness over Austin Aries: Great match. Lots of back and forth action, and some really cool spots in this such as Nigel hitting Aries with a Tower Of London onto the ring apron. The finish was very exciting, with Nigel going for a lariat several times only for it to be countered by Aries. Nigel also counted several of Aries' attempts to lock in the Last Chancery. The finish saw Nigel make Aries tap out to the London Dungeon. Great match.
Match 4: Low Ki over Roderick Strong: Another great match. Pretty much what you'd expect with these two. Lots of hard hitting with some pretty intense moments through out. One cool spot saw Roderick going from a Fireman's Carry into a Gutbuster, but Low Ki countered in midair with a double stomp onto the knees of Strong. Ki gets the win after making Strong tap out to a Dragon Clutch.
Match 5: Scott Lost over Joey Ryan: This was a post-intermission match, so the crowd wasn't really into it as they were getting settled in. Several cool spots in this, with plenty of counters as the story going into this was that since they were partners, they'd know each other really well. Finish saw Scott Lost get the victory after kicking Joey in the face and then pinning him.
Match 6: Bryan Danielson over Davey Richards: Great match. Davey Richards played a tremendous heel in this. Lots of fun to watch. Danielson was tremendous as usual, and the finishing segment of the match was really heated and the fans were eating things up. Danielson wins after getting Davey to tap to the Cattle Mutilation. Post match, Davey Richards knocked out the Danny Devito looking referee. Hilarious moment.
Match 7: Masato Yoshino over El Generico and Nick Jackson: Another great match. Standard triple threat affair with two guys going at it while one guy was on the outside, but it was well done. The fans really enjoyed this match.
Match 8: Chris Hero over Necro Butcher: This started out with Hero and Necro doing some wrestling, but it quickly degenerated into a brawl around the venue with several weapons involved. The finish saw Hero deliver multiple elbows to Necro Butcher. After Necro went down, Hero applied the Hero's Clutch to make Necro tap. Post match Hero put over Necro as being one of his toughest opponents.
Really fun show. MOTN honors goes to Richards/Danielson, with Aries/Nigel, Ki/Strong, and the triple threat trailing behind. Matches announced for tomorrow:
-Round 2: Brandon Bonham vs. Nigel McGuinness
-Round 2: Low Ki vs. Masato Yoshino
-Round 2: TJ Perkins vs. Bryan Danielson
-Round 2: Chris Hero vs. Scott Lost
- Non-Tournament 9-Man Tag: Austin Aries, Roderick Strong, and Davey Richards vs. Joey Ryan, Chuck Taylor, and Kenny Omega vs. El Generico, Nick Jackson, and Necro Butcher
Night 2:
PWG presented Night 2 of the BOLA tournament in Burbank on Sunday. The crowd was about the same as the night before, with the total around 400.
Match 1: Nigel McGuinness over Brandon Bonham to advance in the tournament: Hot opener. Nigel received a busted lip or nose and a black eye during the match. Goes over with a Tower Of London for the pinfall victory.
Note: Nigel didn't really hit that many lariats this weekend, which was pretty cool.
Match 2: Low Ki over Masato Yoshino to advance in the tournament: Another match the fans were hot for. The two wrestlers blended really well in this. Low Ki makes Yoshino tap to the Dragon Clutch. Post match saw the fans give Yoshino a "please come back" chant.
Match 3: Bryan Danielson over TJ Perkins to advance: Awesome match. Runner up for MOTN. Perkins shined in this as opposed to last night. He played an affective heel and Danielson did a great job at rallying the fans behind him. Great technical wrestling match, and a great story to go along with it. The finish saw them tease a countout finish with Perkins keeping Danielson out of the ring, and Danielson finally making it in with a sunset flip to get the victory.
Match 4: Chris Hero over Scott Lost to advance: Really fun match. Lost started out strong going after Hero right at the start to try and gain the upper hand. Really disappointed Scott Lost didn't make it but he had a good showing here. Lots of cool spots in this like Scott Lost hitting an ace crusher onto Hero outside the ring.
Match 5: Low Ki over Nigel McGuinness via DQ to advance to the finals: This started out really good, but the finish was weak. The two fought over a chair during the match, it got inside, several minutes later the ref took a bump, Nigel ended up hitting the Tower Of London on Ki onto the chair and the referee saw it which led to him DQ'ing Nigel. The referee (a ref from WSX) got major heat from the fans.
Match 6: Chris Hero over Bryan Danielso to advance to the finals: Hot finish here. Sorta like how Danielson/Richards ended last night. The fans were really hot for this and they teased things really well.
Match 7: Austin Aries, Davey Richards, & Roderick Strong over El Generico/Nick Jackson/Necro Butcher and Kenny Omega/Joey Ryan/Chuck Taylor: Insanely fun match. REALLY SCARY moment in this. Kenny Omega went to run the ropes, but the middle and top ropes snapped and he took a stumble to the outside. He was taken to the back, but came back in the middle of the match. He cut a promo at the food table, proclaiming that everyone in this match was a loser (from the night before) and that there was no reason to fight each other. Everyone then chased him all over the building, and outside.
Finish saw the referee screw over Necro Butcher as he did a fast count when Davey Richards gave him a school boy. After the match Necro blasted him with a crazy chairshot that got a giant reaction from the fans. This was the most fun match I've ever seen in PWG.
Following the match, there was a short break for the ring crew to try and fix the ropes. They couldn't fix them so there was only one rope used for the finals.
Match 8: Low Ki over Chris Hero to win the 2008 Battle Of Los Angeles: This match should be considered a MOTYC. Without the top rope, this ended up being a crazy strikefest with really good mat wrestling mixed in. Ki ended up busting Hero's nose with a kick to the face, and Hero was bleeding big time. He was a few feet away from me when he got out of the ring and blood was pouring from his nose. Towards the end both wrestlers tried to land several knockout blows to each other, but couldn't get the job done. Several fans at ringside were really caught up in this, encouraging each wrestler whenever someone was down. That really helped make the match great, and added so much to the dynamics of the finals. Low Ki gets the victory after making Hero tap out to a Dragon Clutch.
Post match, Hero put over Low Ki and said he's found his new #1 contender for the PWG World Championship. Low Ki then got on the mic, and cut a very passionate promo and put over PWG and it's local wrestlers big time. It was really well done, and it was extremely classy of him to put over wrestlers such as Scott Lost, TJ Perkins, Davey Richards, and PAC.
Awesome show to close out a great weekend from PWG. MOTN honors goes to Hero/Ki, which is my PWG MOTY and an overall MOTYC in my book. Danielson/Perkins is right behind it.
Notes from the weekend:
-WWE superstar Paul London, and WWE referee Marty Elias were in attendance on Night 1.
-After the show, I saw Kenny Omega walking around and he looked like he was in good spirits after his scary moment. I really hope he comes back.
