Interesting. I'll give it a watch.
I deeply hated the new Halloween, and am strongly opposed to the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street (w/out Robert Englund)
With that being said, I'll probably give this a chance. The Jason movies were never Citizen Kane. I love them very much for what they are, don't get me wrong. But even from the start of the series it was pretty low rent, and a knock off of Halloween. I don't feel as bothered by it being remade/rebooted as I do with Halloween or Elm Street, or other horror classics.
Plus it looks kinda cool. Jason is Jason. Unlike Myers and Freddy, who are more fleshed out characters, it doesn't matter who he is. With Freddy it has to be Englund. With Myers, it can vary but it's all about capturing the creepiness and mood around him and only the first movie nailed that.
For Jason, I'm really only expecting to see a big guy with a hockey mask/machete look imposing, keep his mouth shut, and find new and interesting ways to dismember camp counselors who are drinking, smoking and boning.
I guess my expectations are different for Jason, or simpler. Not neccesarily lower, but in essence they are lesser.
So, even though I'd boycott most reboots I'll buy this for a dollar.

Maybe this will be decent, but seriously, rehashed idea #289573857 from Hollywood.

10-28-2008, 01:49 AM
Oh come on. It's Friday the 13th. They re-hashed the idea 10 times over before they "rebooted" it.
And the whole "idea" was a rehashed idea anyways. Friday the 13th was an admitted knockoff of Halloween and planned as a franchise from the get go.
It was standout because they did an alright job, and built it as a cash cow from the get go, but it was just one of the series of knockoff slashers based around killing teenagers in the theme of a holiday.
After Halloween they sprung up all over the goddamn place. Friday the 13th, April Fools Day, My Bloody Valentine, Prom Night, etc.
I'm suprised Thanksgiving was realized as a fake trailer 2 years ago and not an actual franchise in the early 80s.
So F13 is classic shit, but it's hardly an original idea that they're suddenly rehashing.

I particularly enjoy the ridiculous/awful human characters from film to film. Jason is Jason. It's the kills and the absurd human behavior/dialogue/characters that set each apart.

The only Friday the 13th I can't really enjoy on any real level is part 5
I do find it funny, since its ridiculous as always and filled with ridiculous characters/acting/situations. So I guess I've enjoyed it in that way before, but it's easily the worst/most disposable of the series though. And that's saying something.

That's because it really is, unless you are a fan of Tommy Jarvis which I am not.

Is Jason X the one in space?
Because the scene where they try to distract him with two girls and he puts one in the sleeping bag and beats the other to death with it is pure black comedy genius.

I honestly don't know 3 from 5 from 6. I know atleast two were meta-sequels with the TK bitch, and one had a guy crazy enough to fight back. But I remember Jason's series as one long marathon of murder. I'm coherent from 'Manhattan on down, though.
I really liked Freddy vs Jason. I consider a much better cross-over than AvP. Jason X was awful/awesome. And yes, that scene where they tried to distract him with a virtual Camp Crystal was one of the funniest self-parodies in any horror film, he even did the classic 'sleeping bag swing' for good measure.
Jason Goes to Hell was kinda stupid.

Only 7 had the telekinesis chick. 4, 5, and 6 follow Tommy Jarvis although 5 doesn't even have Jason in it.

I was actually raised on movies like Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Nightmare on Elm Street. I'm interested in seeing what they will do with the remake. The trailer looks decent and Jason seems to be a little more aggressive. If they do make a series out of this one... I hope that the continuity errors aren't as obvious. Here's the run down of the last Friday the 13th series...
Part 1: Jason's mother kills everyone, Jason appears at the end.
Part 2: Jason kills everyone with a burlap sack over his head.
Part 3: Jason gets his hockey mask.
Part 4: The final chapter... Jason is murdered by a 10 year old.
Part 5: Some guy pretends to be Jason, Jason makes a ghostly appearance at the end.
Part 6: Jason is resurrected.
Part 7: Some telekinetic chick faces off against Jason.
Part 8: Jason goes to Manhattan.
Part 9: Jason is killed, and some slimy worm thing goes from person to person giving them the spirit of Jason. At the end, Jason is reborn; but then is stabbed with a special dagger sending him straight to Hell.
Part 10: Jason is back and now he's in space.
For the most part, they ignore the characters from previous installments. In some cases, like 4, 5, and 6 they stay consistent with a character. There are also a lot of unanswered questions. Like how did Jason get back from New York? How did Jason get out of Hell? What happened to the survivors of most of the series? Why is Jason seemingly unstoppable, and able to rise from the dead? What makes him so different than everyone else? Is he a democrat, or a republican? WHO KNOWS!?

I grew up watching horror flicks and Jason was my number one killer. Freddy 2nd, Myers 3rd. Just the way Jason kills his victims was what I would watch (smashing the chick in the sleeping bag into tree, bending sherrif backwards). So hopefully it's a good ole throwback 80's type of slasher flick. And the fact that they will use the same music as well will make it sweet.

Umm Freddy got Jason out of Hell. Theoretically Jason was washed away by the toxic sludge back to Crystal Lake hence why his mask is so fucked up at the beginning for JGTH.
In terms of survivors: Alice is killed off by Jason in Part 2 as for the others well they just stayed the fuck away from Crystal Lake. Jason with the exception of the beginning of 2, all of 8 and part of FVSJ never leaves the Crystal Lake area.

Jason was melted by the Toxic Waste in F13 Jason Takes Manhattan, not washed away. If thats what you want to think, I wont argue because even though he was melted, it still don't make sense how he came back in Jason Goes To Hell.

They certainly didn't show him melt only disappear and seemingly become a kid. Him getting turned back into a kid I'd argue was a hallucination on the part of the final girl. Thus my belief that he simply was washed away.

This can't be a remake of the original because he wasn't even in the first one, it was his mother (as mentioned) and also, he didn't get the mask til 3..
Jason X is great on so many level.. The hippy getting his arm chapped off by frozen Jason, the dude getting thrown on the giant screw, the robot nipples falling off, and of coarse, "Space Yoked Jason"..
p.s. I have every "Jason" movie on DVD, FYI..
