It was first announced at Breakpoint 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakpoint_demo_party) in Germany (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany).
Linger in Shadows differs in an important aspect from many demoscene (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demoscene) products in that it is being published by Sony (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony) on the PlayStation 3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3), who trademarked the name late 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007).[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-1)
Many news sites which reported about the demo assumed that it's a techdemo for a future game. [3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-2) [4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-3) This was denied during presentations at E3, although it was revealed that the title does feature interactivity.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-4)[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-5)
The interactive parts were first showcased at the Realtime Generation (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Realtime_Generation&action=edit&redlink=1) festival in Vienna (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna) by lead programmer Michal "Bonzaj" Staniszewski (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Michal_Staniszewski&action=edit&redlink=1)[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-dvision08-6); it was revealed that the interactive part of the demo is essentially the main storyline, with added interaction using the SIXAXIS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIXAXIS) such as user-controlled camera and the ability to scratch back and forth in the timeline. It also allows the player to play around with some parts of the environment, like rotating certain objects or moving light sources. The demo was later also presented at NVISION 08 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvision), in a somewhat updated state. [8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-nvision08-7)
The interactive part initially only lets the user to explore the first fifth of the demo, and the user has to perform various actions with the SIXAXIS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIXAXIS) to unlock the next part, such as shaking the controller or holding it in a certain angle. The scenes also feature hidden greetings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demo_%28computer_programming%29#Greetings) to a number of known demogroups, which can be found in more obscure areas of the demo. Unlocking parts of the demo ("sigils") as well as finding hidden greetings both reward the user with trophies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Network#PlayStation_3_Trophies).[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-nvision08-7) [9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-8)
The demo also features a easter egg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_egg_%28media%29), unlockable in the menu by pressing down both analog sticks (L3 and R3) on the SIXAXIS. The resulting menu item allows the viewer to watch an "oldskool demo" with a starfield, two DYCP (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Different_Y_Character_Position&action=edit&redlink=1) scrollers (using the C64 character set) and various other early demo effects such as blitter objects (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blitter_object) and metaballs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaballs) (intentionally made to look low resolution), with chiptune (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiptune) music accompanying it.[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-nvision08-7)
The full demo was released on October 9th 2008 on the PlayStation Store (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Store) retailing at £1.99[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linger_In_Shadows#cite_note-get2sammyb.co.uk-9), EUR€2.99, US$2.99 and AU$4.99.
It also has sixteen of the easiest trophies you'll ever be able to get (assuming you're a trophy whore like I'm becoming...or already am).

By the way, I loved it myself (I was curious enough to get it). Pretty nice, but left me wanting more since it was rather short. The graphics blew me away, though.
