Why is Angle the leader of M.E.M.?

Didn't this whole angle start with Sting attacking Samoa Joe and AJ Styles? If I remember correctly, Sting attacked Joe for beating on Booker T and then attacked AJ for beating on Angle. In fact, has anyone besides Angle claimed that Angle was the leader of the M.E.M?

Sting is pretty much the reason the group started, he's not a follower. Angle has headed up the charge for the rest of the stable but really it comes off more like Sting is above and beyond the stable itself, even though they share common goals. That fact is really the only reason Sting associates with them at all, they're the proof of his cause, disrespect to the vets.
