The demo is out for everyone today. Two levels of 4 player co-op. It is <u>insane</u>. I waited to play the demo to reserve my judgment, but I had quite a few mark-outs during the 15 minutes I played, so I quickly preordered.

You are probably looking at an early build demo, or just someone running the demo on low graphics. Valve always makes lower system requirements so more people can play. The game looks fucking amazing. It's the same engine that Valve uses for all their games (Source).

Shit is ridiculously fun with other people. Played the entire No Mercy campaign, ad it was brilliant. Plenty of teamwork, and holy shit moments. Finales, which are the last stage of the campaigns are fuckng INSANE. Hordes of infected of all variesties are thrown at you.

No Mercy finale takesplace on the roof of the hospital, and ended in true horror movie fashion on my playthrough. First guy to die fell off the side of the platform we were on, and got swarmed. Before we could help him, a tank (which is basicly a zombie incredible hulk) jumped up on our platform. And just like in the movies, the asshole of our group, who wasn't playing cooperatively throughout the game, got the most satisfying death when the tank punched him so hard, he went flying off the side of the building. After that, the chopper came in and we made a break for it, just as the biggest horde yet, came piling in. A hunter pounced on me, and my teamate blasted it off of me. But I had been injured and would need assistance getting back up. But since there were so damn many zombies, I made myself the sacrificial lamb, and told the other guy to go. Tried to shoot as many as I could with my pistol, from the ground, and just as the horde killed me, the other guy made it to the chopper, as the last survivor.

Was prolly one of the greatest multiplayer experiences I've ever had. Just amazing.

Oh, and playing as the zombies in versus takes a little getting used to, but it's mad fun once you do.

the team work aspect is great, i love how you have to cooperate otherwise survival is nearly impossible. but after i ended my game with fignuts i got put into a game with this really controlling chucklehead who kept ordering me to do things.

Yeah, that finale we did was ridiculous. Those other two guys had the right idea tho. They stayed at the house until the boards on the second level got torn down. Then they booked for the dock, where the infected can only reach you from one direction. There's just too many ways for the infected to get to you in the house, once the boards are gone.

the smart dynamic AI really makes this so much fun to play through multiple times too. i mean, i played this afternoon and only got 2 Tanks, but when we played we saw 4.

Was playing Vs. mode on No Mercy last night and when we were the infected, there was a witch on the last chapter, just above the first ladder (EG Unavoidable) so all four of us just stood in the shadows there, smoker pulls the first guy up towards the witch, set off the witch trying to shoot the smoker, first one down, sent in the boomer who got all four of them then me and the other hunter picked off the other two while the smoker grabbed the final one.

Of course. Depending on the level though, you can divide them up and let hunters/smokers do their "thang" while you chuck part of the pavement at some other unsuspecting goof.

Love verses mode, especially when people actually communicate and you can plan a decent attack. Have been the Tank a couple of times but only delt out some serious damange on my third go. Dont really like being the Boomer as he's a slow fat piece of shit.

Boomer is the best tool, if you get all 4 of them it's some sweet damage with some hunters to pick off some corpses.

You got to be tactical with Versus as the infected. Even as the survivors. They key to it all is teamwork. If I find a good team, we become unstoppable. Having people fall into traps. Once you get one Survivor dead, you should be able to win if all 3 attack at once and the boomer just does his thing. Talking about this all, makes me want to play it now.

It seriously works better than I ever would have anticipated. Like I stated in the thread earlier, I played 2v2 LAN Versus on two computers in my house and it was the most multiplayer fun I've had since I can't remember when.

I'll post the link for anyone who wants to try it out. The setup is really really simple. I've used a wireless 360 pad and a wired PS1-USB pad. Besides having to change a few buttons for the PS2 pad, everything worked wonderful. The guide is here:

So my sister has a 360. I've never even played the thing yet I want this fecking game. So, is it worth going and spending £40 on when it's literally the only X-Box game I'd play? From my understanding for 360 setup. In order to use a mic, you need Gold. Also the 360 is not wireless enabled. You can either plug in an ethernet cable directly to it, or buy a fairly expensive wireless adapter for the 360.

No, you need Gold to play multi-player at all, not just for the mic. Well worth it though for a quality online experience.

Just got this game and a bunch of my friends did too. Most fun i have had on a multiplayer since COD4.

We played the verus mode for most of the night with three on each team, and it was fucking immense.

Being the infected on versus is clearly easier and funnier. waiting round a corner and puking on people when they come past is hugely amusing to me, especially when the more times you do it the more people swear.

I can sense there will be lots of fun to be had into the wee hours for the next few months.

Yeah I beat 3 out of 4 on expert. Some levels will be impossible with a team. Then I'll try again next day and we breeze through it. Def depends on the team. Like someone will get Boomer'd on and just stand out in the open. I hate people who don't know how to hug a wall or find a corner when a horde is coming. They just try to rush through levels and ugh.

Valve sends word that an update for the PC version of Left 4 Dead (http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead) is now available, with an update for the 360 version planned in "the coming weeks." The update includes lots of bug fixes as well as many improvements to the versus multiplayer mode. As a general improvement, the Infected HUD now shows the status of other Infected teammates, which is nice. Several changes and improvements have been made to the various Infected classes, including increased pounce damage for Hunters, changes to the Smoker's tongue mechanics -- sounds like it's harder to melee the tongue now -- and reduced autoshotgun damage against Tanks. Perhaps most notable to those that play a lot of versus, the percentage chance that either a Witch or Tank will spawn is now the same for both teams. Hopefully that will quell the constant cries of "no fairsies!"

- Fixed Survivors being able to climb surfaces marked for versus infected only.
- Fixed a class of SurvivorBot bugs dealing with rescuing downed players.

- Shooting near a car with an alarm that has already fired the alarm will no longer make chirping noises.
- Improved loading time.
- Fixed mini-gun physics exploit.
- Fixed propane tanks (and other physics objects) causing players to fall through elevators.

Versus Changes
- Added HUD elements to show status of other infected players.
- Changed color of infected player name in chat to red.
- Fixed exploit where players could spawn infected bots
- Fixed instance where a Survivor changing to the infected team would be attacked by infected bots.
- Normalized special infected melee damage.
- Made the following client commands cheat protected: "Kill" and "explode".
- Fixed exploit where infected players could run away and teleport back to gain health.
- Players can only change teams once per map.
- Players can't change teams while other players are still loading.
- Tank spawns at the same % through the map for both teams in versus mode.
- Made the Tank and Witch spawn directly on the escape route.
- Increased chance of getting the Tank or Witch.
- Fixed team swap issue.

Hunter
- Easier to pounce a Survivor who is meleeing.
- Increased Minimum damage a Hunter pounce does.

Smoker
- Fixed Smoker tongue tolerance.
- Smoker now has to be killed or the tongue destroyed for the tongue to break.
- Survivor's cannot bash someone off the tongue until the Survivor being pulled is paralyzed or hanging
- Tongue attacks that fail to paralyze or hang a Survivor will use the shorter ability delay timer.
- Fixed cases where the ability timer was not using the correct time.
- Fixed case where you could point at a Survivor but not register a tongue hit
- Fixed Smoker tongue not targeting and landing properly through PZ ghosts.
- Smoker tongue does damage every second while dragging paralyzed Survivors.

Tank
- Bashable objects now appear with a red glow.
- Tanks hitting a car with an alarm disables the alarm permanently.
- Tank frustration timer is only reset by hitting Survivors with rocks or fists.
- Reduced autoshotgun damage against Tanks.

Witch
- Witch spawns at the same % through the map for both teams.
- Avoids spawning within a certain % of the tank.
- Fixed an exploit where the Witch could be woken up and tricked into attacking Survivors.

Half-life was fucking brilliant for it's time. Half-life 2, equally so, with the exception of (imo) anti-climatic ending.

Even beyond that, you have portal which is probably the only game I'e ever that has been 100% fun all the way through. There is not one part in that game that was frustrating.

Kotaku and Joystiq have both announced the first DLC for the game. New Survival Mode (unexplained as of yet), and the other two movies opened for Versus. The Source SDK is also being released around the same time for PC. Set for Spring.

No prices mentioned, but the hope is that it will be free for the PC...as Valve has done for all their other game additions. It'll probably cost money on the 360, though.

Survival Pack DLC - Due Spring 09

New details have been released on Left 4 Dead's upcoming "Survival Mode. The game's new mode will feature "up to four players [set] records for the longest time surviving hordes of zombies on over 12 maps." Zombie Horde mode? Awesome!

The upcoming update, which has been dubbed the "Survival Pack" will be released on the PC and Xbox 360 this Spring, will also include playable Versus mode versions of the "Dead Air" and "Death Toll".

Also, PC gamers will be getting access to the game's software development kit soon, which will allow gamers to create their own campaigns for play on the PC.

- You CANNOT stand behind the safe-room door and not get hit by the Tank
- Tanks now have 6000 health instead of 4000.
- You MUST hit Survivors with your fists or rocks to replenish the frustration meter.
- Items you can hit are highlighted with a red glow.
- The Tank will always spawn in the path the Survivors must take, not in a side room that is avoidable
- The Tank will always spawn in the same place for both teams in Versus
- The Tank Frustration Meter depletes in smaller increments.

Witch
- You cannot stand behind the Witch and not get attacked.

Left 4 Head is a survival-horror porno. Kinda surprised it took this long to come out really, but I'm sure the fanboys crying over the various ways Zoey gets plowed will be happy now. It's around 12 minutes long and will change the way you play Left 4 Dead forever. Seriously, it's the worst thing.

So anyway, we follow Zoey walking through some wasteland city looking for Louis (Well gee I wonder why), but ends up in a house with 2 zombies. Don't worry, she kills them before they start mauling her. Then we see a Hunter crawling across the floor, followed by a quite possibly the greatest looking Smoker ever, except this Smoker has something else that's really long and extendable. Our deformed friend gets Zoey, but not before groping her and shoving his extend-o-cock down her throat. She stands there wriggling around for a good minute (Somewhere inbetween lifts up her shirt too for some reason, maybe all that infected dick was making her hot or something) before shooting the Smoker off-screen and moving on. Come the fuck on, if I'm watching a porno about zombies, I at least want to see some sweet kills as well.

Anyway, she moves on down a hallway while we hear a Hunter in the background, before it runs up behind her and takes her down to the floor and starts pulling down her jeans and lifting up her top. Apparently Zoey wears a tiny ass pink thong too, although I never saw that in the original game or artwork, so I'll just take their word for it. Then the Hunter starts feeling her up for a good minute or two which is painfully awkward to watch before getting on top of her and whipping his zombie penis out. She's kind of eager to get to work on it too, so maybe that explains why she's always walking off on her own and running into specials. This goes on for the remainder of the movie until she finishes the Hunter off, then coincidentally gets "downed". The Hunter drags her off and it ends.

To their credit, they do use the original sound effects of the Hunter and Smoker. It's really a weird mix of legitimate voice work from the game and the best worst acting I've ever seen. Then there's the setting. It goes from this empty ghost town scene with wrecked cars to some lifeless building that wouldn't be out of place in F.E.A.R., which I don't remember from any of the 4 campaigns. It should be noted that there's also no Witch, Boomer or Tank which sets up a glorious and much anticipated sequel, which I would genuinely be surprised if they didn't make. Don't act like you wouldn't want to see a shitty B-movie of Zoey getting it on with that PMS bitch.

Overall it's funny and relevant enough to keep watching, but unsettling enough to minimize and go about doing something else while the creepy generic horror music and L4D sounds play in the background.

And yes, that's Left 4 Dead ONE (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Left-4-Dead/), last year's popular zombocalypse simulator, and not this year's "controversial" sequel. True to its word (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/left-4-dead-dlc-announcement-by-end-of-summer/), Valve has announced details of an upcoming DLC campaign for the game, sending conspiratorial crybabies ("Left 4 Dead 2 is a cash-in and they'll never support Left 4 Dead 1") back to the drawing board. Though Left 4 Dead 2 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Left-4-Dead-2/) is purported to last "much longer" (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/left-4-dead-2-will-last-much-longer-as-a-platform/) as a platform, Valve clearly isn't ready to abandon the original.

Targeted for this September, "Crash Course" is an entirely new campaign that "bridges the gap" between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign (think: rooftop helicopter evacuation) and the beginning of "Death Toll" (think: turnpike riddled with abandoned cars). The new campaign includes "new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale," and it spreads the mayhem across a co-op campaign, survival maps, and a "streamlined version" of the Versus mode experience lasting 30 minutes.

All this for the asking price of ... $0? Oh, but that's on PC only, friend. If you've waged war on the reanimated dead via your Xbox 360, you'll be paying 560http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif ($7 Earth bucks) for the privilege of adding "Crash Course" to your repertoire. Think about it this way, 360 gamers: if the original $60 game included just four maps, $7 for this set is a value, right? Hey, where are you going?
