Would the WrestleMania streak be as big as it is if it wasn't Undertaker's streak?

Would it mean as much if it had been Kane who was given the streak? Would his career be like Taker's is? He obviously wouldn't be a glorified jobber, but would he (or whoever else) be The Phenom?

Now I'm only using Kane as an example, but this could go for anyone. How different would the concept and the hype surrounding it be?

Discuss.

If Hogan wasn't a self centered prick and didn't jump to WCW I could see him with a 20-0 streak at WM.

They'd need to be on Taker's level. Yes, he's Mr. Wrestlemania Streak, but that is only one part of his allure.

Someone like Edge could have carried it through, but someone like Helms or even Kane couldn't really carry it through. I could see it used for building one's match around it, but it wouldn't be (any of) the major attraction(s).

Too bad he wasn't even undefeated at Wrestlemania before jumping.

If it weren't for the Undertaker, Kane would probably still be a dentist.

Yeah I could see Hogan doing it if he wasn't a cock.

Xero, do you think Edge could do it based on his character or wrestling ability? Or both?

Also, how much of the overall landscape would be different? For example, if Edge was the guy, what would have become of Christian? Would The Brood have existed? Would he have been wished well in his future endeavors long ago?

A lot of questions, I know but the other thread really got me going. Plus I've been slammed with schoolwork for the past two weeks and my brain is fucking fried. This should be fun.

Character, mostly. Being great in the ring is a great plus, but in WWE, you need to have a shitload of charisma and a great character to be up to Taker's standards.

Think about it this way. Taker's a pretty good wrestler, one of the better US big men ever. But without the Undertaker character and the history which comes with it Mark Calloway wouldn't be main eventing as many WrestleManias as he has.

There has to be an aspect to their personality that helps dictate why they are able to carry out this streak. For Taker it is his mind games and his overall sheer dominance. If it had been Edge, it would've been because he is such an opportunist, ect.

Wasn't Edge undefeated at Wrestlemania until he lost to Taker this year?

Yeah, I believe so.

Technically he lost the Money in the Bank last year, but yeah.

The streak was only really mentioned as a factor around the American Bad Ass era. It happened out of coincidence more than anything. You have to remember how Taker is generally booked. He was booked even more of an unstoppable force in the past, so if he isn't in the title match, his character demands that he win on a big stage if not facing the champion.

It added a new dimention to his character, which is handy when you need a fued for one of your biggest stars before the biggest show. Could anyone else have done it/will do it? I don't think so. Nobody is going to be booked as THAT dominant in the future. Even hogan was jobbed at WM4. I don't think he actually won at 8 or 9 either. So unless you are a monster who isn't just a gimmick until we are all bored of you, I don't see how anyone else could have done it, or how anyone else ever could.

It seems to me, most people that have long streaks now a days happens because they were forgotten about, case in point, Kindrick and London. Vince must have forgotten they were tag team champs, and they just keep the belt until someone reminded Vince Smackdown had tag team champions.

So, they only way that would happen is if some low level monster, i.e. Knox started getting throw away wins for a few mainias in a row, he starts moving up the ranks and is used as a threat for a title during slim picks so he keeps getting to win while not against maineventers, and keeps getting into mainas.
