The Longest Yard (2005?)

I was thinking about old movies I've seen, trying to come up with one for the "Recommend One Movie" thread. The Longest Yard is probably one of the few "football" movies I've actually liked. Anyway I looked it up on IMDb... and it turns out there is a re-make in pre-production (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0398165/).

I'm not too big on re-makes to start with. They have Adam Sandler listed as the main character. :-\ I like him somewhat, but I don't see him in this role. Also on the cast list... Snoop Dogg and Chris Rock.

I have a feeling I'll be disappointed with the new version.

So what movie re-makes do you feel were mistakes that couldn't live up to the original?

Most of them.

Remakes can be a good idea, and even really cool...

...Problem is, they usually aren't.

Snoop Dogg is in everything these days. :wtf:

And these lackluster remakes have to die.

I dont mind when they decide to do a remake. But the re-make needs to be good. They should poll the audience and see what they think. I hate re-makes that come out and they suck.

Why the hell remake this movie? C'mon, Burt Reynolds made this movie what it was.

Remakes baaaaaaaad. If you're going to rip off a movie, at least have the creativity to pretend it's something new.

Ocean's 11 was one of the few good remakes I have seen.

I actually enjoyed Mean Machine, which was a remake of The Longest Yard. Maybe because Vinnie Jones is the man.

I hope Walking Tall is good, although I haven't seen the original.

Actually, I'm really trying to think of any good remakes. I know there are a couple I liked, but I'm drawing a blank.

I liked the Rundown, but I never saw the original
