View Full Version : I need a DVD decoder that's free that works on XP and WMP
Say if I were to put Nero on this computer, does it come with it's own dvd decoder, or will I still need to find one?
I installed XP with an OEM copy, that's why I need it.

What do you mean DVD decoder? One that will rip DVDs onto your hard drive?
Try DVDFab 5. You can download a free version at their website if you Google the name. PM me for the serial.

P.S. Nero won't decode protected DVDs, so yes, you have to find something else.
The codec to play DVDs. I think I found one. It's downloading now though so I'm not 100%.

VLC media player?
That's what I ended up using, VLC. I had a couple downloaded from torrents that were suppose to make DVD playback with WMP work. They didn't work. I hate having 2 media players now, but whatever.
If you are looking for a light weight go for the k-lite codec package.

Yeah I dunno why Windows just doesn't come with the ability to play DVDs. Come on.

I have used VLC for years. It is the only thing I use for videos. Runs pretty much most anything.
