skimming it quickly because i don't give a fuck about it, i saw "everlong" and that's good enough for me. although i'm not sure i would class that as a Hard Rock Song.

When an Evanesence song ranks higher than an Alice in Chains song, and the list doesn't contain Journey's "Don't stop believin'," all credibility goes out of the window.

Also Hard Rock is a very vague definition. I wouldn't consider a song like "More Than a Feeling" to be Hard Rock.

These lists are stupid. They always only place one song per band when in reality a band like say Nirvana or Pearl Jam or Led Zeppelin have an entire catalogue worth of songs better than most of the tripe they included on there, such as Evanescence or Ted fucking Nugent.

I'm actually surprised that the song jobbed at this countdown.

But as mentioned as well, there are better songs by a band than the song they pick for the countdown. I would pick "slave to the grind" as a better choice for Skid Row than "18 and life".

98. Fuck this entry.

97. Can't recall this song.

96. Epic song. If anything, it's too low.

95. I'm not gonna jump on the Fuck Creed Bandwagon. Scott Stapp is a douchebag bar none. But the actual music is good. That being said, "My Own Prison" is better, as is "Torn."

94. see #98

92. see #97

91. "Zero" and "Tonight Tonight" are both better, and they're on the same album.

89. see #94

88. "Would?" is an unusual choice, considering how "Man in the Box" is right there, as well. No complaints, though. Even though I would prefer "We Die Young."

87. see #89.

85. should be pissed, but I'm not.

84. "Like an Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)"(sp?) is better. If for no other reason, the line "I FUCK LIKE A BEAST!"

83. see #87 Lacuna Coil is better.

82. I need to hear this.

81. HOLY FUCK! They actually acknowledge the Dio era?

77. "Outshined," "Rusty Cage," "My Wave," and "Blow up the Outside World" are all better.

75. see #83 (before the "Lacuna Coil is better" part.)

66. This song is too fucking low!

64. No complaints outside of the glaring omission of any Black Flag songs.

62. "Dream Warriors" is better.

48. "Blind" was better, but not much. Korn was basically overrated.

47. see *75

46. FUCK TO THE YES!

43. I hope they didn't pick this song over "Rainbow in the Dark" due to Killswitch Engage's butchery of it. If not, good choice.

39. This song should be top 5. One of the World's Greatest Songs.

38. Odd choice, but the right one.

37. see #47. Fuck the Who.

36. Also had two songs, but both were Diamond Dave era. Haggar era almost never gets its due, though it was solid. (Heard Valen Halen's I and II)

32. "Stranglehold" is better. Fuck Nugent.

31. replace with "Highway to Hell" and put it in #2's spot.

28. "Best of You" is their best song. "Monkey Wrench" is also better.

27. "Slide it In" is better. :naughty:

26. Another band that had 1,000 great songs. You could have put this one, "Sweet Home Alabama," "Simple Man," "Tuesday's Gone," "That Smell," and/or "What's Your Name" on this list. And this one and/or "Sweet Home Alabama" should be top 10.

22. "Purple Haze."

21. This song lost all credibility when Diddy sampled it for a song. "When the Levee Breaks" is better, anyway.

20. Bon Jovi... If they HAD to have just one song, I would have went with "Living on a Prayer" or "Wanted Dead or Alive."

16. Almost surprised they didn't go with "Detroit Rock City." "Strutter" is better. "War Machine" is much better, but a forgotten classic.

15. I preferred "Too Young to Fall in Love," mainly because of the riff and how funny the video is (especially Tommy Lee, though martial arts masters with swords being taken out by bar room brawling is sweet). No complaints, though.

12. Me likey. I would have went with "Pain Killer," but this is a good, too.

10. Unexpected to see one this high, but no complaints. I personally prefer "Eat the Rich," and "Iron Fist," but this IS Motorhead to many people (this and the Triple H theme.), and I'm actually surprised that Motorhead is even mentioned.

9. "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" is better.

8. OVERRATED *CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP*

7. See #8. "Rape Me" is better.

6. See #47. All of it this time.

5. See #7. replace "Rape Me" with "Creeping Death," "Battery,"... shit, the first three albums. (though I am in the minority that likes Load and Reload for what they are. They're good albums, just not good Metallica albums)

4. see #5, just the seeing part. People do realize that Ozzy-era Sabbath had better songs than just what was on Paranoid, right? "Snowblind," "N.I.B.," "Symptom of the Universe," "Black Sabbath"

3. No complaints. Kind of overrated, but not clap worthy.

2. I would put "Highway to Hell" here, and "Back in Black" at like, 20.
Jacoby Shaddix: But it's Brian Fuckin' Johnson. You better Recognize!
Me: Fuck you, Coby Dick.
Jacoby Shaddix: MY NAME IS JACOBY FUCKIN' SHADDIX! IT IS MY REAL FUCKIN' NAME.
Me: *pauses* Fuck you, Coby Dick. Don't make me pull out the lyric sheet of Infest.
*Jacoby storms off. I just realized that I admitted to having owned Papa Roach's Infest at one point.

1. "Mr. Brownstone" never gets its due.

Can I do better with replacement songs? Let's see.

Replacements for all that fell under the "Fuck this Entry" tag.
#1. "Rise Above" by Black Flag
Why: One of the most potent anti-authority songs ever written. Gotta give Old-School Hardcore its due.

#2. "Kalifornia Uber Alles" by Dead Kennedys
Why: Political Punk at it's finest. I was torn between this one and "Nazi Punks," which Napalm Death covered on the spot after seeing some Skinheads attack the one black kid at the Death Metal Show.

#3. "Clean My Wounds" by Corrosion of Conformity
Why: Perhaps the best known song of the Pepper Keenan era. It has a great riff, and the smoothest lyrics for something as heavy as it is.

#4. "Cemetary Gates" by Pantera
Why: Because this is around the time Phil Anselmo could actually sing, and it's hard to believe he can hit high notes.

#5. "Straightedge" by Minor Threat
Why: Say what you will about the lifestyle, and the people who live it, this was an important song that gave a name to it.

#6. "Stinkfist" by Tool
Why: Maynard's vocals against the chaotic background of what's being played. Also, the lyrical content against the delivery is a trip in and of itself.

#7. "Elephant Riders" by Clutch
Why: Clutch has the best rhythm section in all of Hard Rock. Bar none. And I'd love to hear snarky commentary of a song about the Civil War being fought with a regiment including people who rode elephants.

#8. "Stone the Crow" by Down
Why: Alot of good Down songs, most are even better than Pantera, IMO. And, even though Phil is the third best singer in the band (behind Pepper and Kirk Windstein), this song shows Phil pull all the power he has in his voice behind an impressive performance. Also, the Deuling Riffs show just how underrated both axemen are.

#9. "Where Eagles Dare" by Misfits
Why: In part just to hear everyone sing "I ain't no God Damned Son of a Bitch!" on the show, and it's a fun song to listen to.

Honorable Mentions: "Mother" by Danzig, "All I Had (I Gave)" by Crowbar, "Territory" by Sepultura, "Spirit Crusher" by Death, and "At the Stake" by the Melvins.

Is it like a policy of VH1 to put Smells Like Teen Spirit in the top 10 of every list they make?

I can't wait to see it in "Top 100 Doo Wop hits"

Also Hard Rock is a very vague definition. I wouldn't consider a song like "More Than a Feeling" to be Hard Rock.

Boston is more or less the quintessential definition of "hard rock." MTaF is not the best example, but if they didn't use it, people would bitch about their song selection. Though the ballad is a staple of almost every subgenre to have come since, including many metal genres, so maybe "Amanda" would have worked.

You do realize the Who were "punk" before any punk band you like were ever born right?

but they can play instruments!!

I was going to just idly mock Vas, but good God, between some of his reasons and his replacements...I want to stab him with a spork many times.

Also, LOL @ Straightedge. Considering my Grandfather used the term to almost the exact same definition (minus loving shitty bands and being complete hypocrites), it's kind of hard for me to not mock people who say stuff about the song....

Come on now, we all know that "Straightedge" is catchier than "Faggot Assed Hypocrites." It's all in the marketing, boss. :shifty: In retrospect, I should have just went with "I Don't Wanna Hear it."

In all honesty, I just fucking Hate the Who. And I hate the fact that some record company was shitty enough to manufacture a band that was a ripoff of this band, all the way down to their name (The Guess Who). It's a straight-up anti-logical thing. Kind of like Blender's blind hatred of the Doors. Only difference being, I don't have Blender's readership and I am not trying to pass myself off as some kind of musical authority.

And yes, I do have a soft-spot for early Hardcore. It goes to shit after the breakup of Black Flag, et al, IMO.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, stab away, dude. Stab away.

In all honesty, I just fucking Hate the Who. And I hate the fact that some record company was shitty enough to manufacture a band that was a ripoff of this band, all the way down to their name (The Guess Who). It's a straight-up anti-logical thing.

Yes it is, because The Who and the Guess Who are pretty much nothing alike.

Yeah, I know that much. "No Sugar" was better than anything the Who Did, IMO. I was always lead to believe that the Guess Who were conceived as Who ripoffs. Maybe I need to check some shit on that...

*Checks Wikipedia.*

Ok, my bad. I had always had that belief. It might have been something I had heard/misheard like 15 years ago or some shit. I had always figured that "Won't Get Fooled Again" was a reference to the confusion caused based on that. But, now I know, and knowing is half the battle. G.I. JOE!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for helping me clear that up.

But still, Fuck the Who. I will admit that I like "Behind Blue Eyes," though. But, not enough to run out and buy the album.

I am not calling them the greatest band ever, because they aren't. They're a decent band with a burnout as a singer. I do like "Riders of the Storm." Blender seems to slam them like Morrison rose from the dead and dick slapped each and every one of them before dying again.

If Morrison didn't die of 'Natural causes,' the Doors would have been forgotten.

Damn, I didn't even notice at first that the White Stripes were on there. That is just all kinds of crap.

And I agree with Diesel Mac that One should have been the Metallica song on the list.

Or Master of Puppets or Fade to Black

So KK, who should be #1

Enlighten us.

On a hard rock list? Probably Led Zepp.

Personally? I'd rather see Queen ranked higher, and for one of their songs other than SCC. Mostly because they had heavier, better songs (Hammer to Fall, Innuendo, Sheer Heart Attack), more popular songs, etc.

but Metallica? Fail.

Stab away.

So on top of thinking that "Hardcore" is a valid replacement for bands that were far superior, you're also an idiot who's painting broad strokes over bands you evidently know nothing about.

I once was listening to the radio in a car on a trip down to MA, and the DJ was bitching about all these bands that started using "God" as part of their name after Godsmack made it big. He then listed off four bands, three of which predated Godsmack, two of which predated them by at least five years.

Also, the Who>>>>>>>>>>>>Every band you mentioned. They're not even my favorite act, they're just that much better than your tripe.

Well, when your fanbase is on drugs, you're guaranteed to sound amazing.

Back In Black is number one on this list every time.

And I love Guns N Roses, but Back In Black is just something else.

Rage Against the Machine.

The criteria for the list is basically, songs with distorted guitars and riffs. How the fuck can they not be on this list once?

I've never seen one of these top 100 deals I would at least half agree with but this is just like a redneck with an iPod Shuffle.

Probably the most bullshit list I've ever seen.
