View Full Version : The punt

K so I dunno I was reading the Observer and I usually like Todd Martin's Raw Report, in fact, I generally read his report as opposed to watching Raw... I dunno why I actually prefer reading the reports than watching Raw... maybe cuz it sucks who knows?

Anyways he was bitching about how Randy Orton was acting scared of Stephanie and Vince and how they are billed as "not to be fucked with" or whatever. I usually agree, the McMahon's generally love making themselves seem like gods gift to everything and dominate the t.v... However the punt was fucking awesome... honestly I haven't seen something good in wrestling in a long time, that was amazing, an actual "wow that was sick" moment.

Vince definitely did not put himself over there.... in fact he came across as a feeble old man, he dropped like a sac of bricks from the slap, sold the first kick like he had no idea where he was, and then got fucked up by the punt. Stephanie was pretty helpless too, she just shrieked in her annoying voice (she is fucking terrible though).

I guess he was mad aobut Orton acting "scared" afterwards.... well I dunno, he's a scheming heel... everything he does is with a purpose... in this instant however he acted on his emotions, so it makes sense... he fucking kicked his "billionaire" boss in the head. It was beautiful!

I dunno I'm a little disappointed in Todd Martin here... this was probably the best use of Vince in a LONG TIME.

Steph needs to be gone though.

I think they were trying to go for him being lost in the moment and then a whole "What the fuck did I just do?" scenario afterwards.

Yeah exactly... I don't think he was scared... if he was scared he wouldn't have beat the shit out of his boss. Next week he's gonna come out and act like an uber badass.

I wish all wrestling could have the heir of seirousness to it. I'd probably actually bother watching it more.

Wait is it "heir" or "air" of seriousness. Fuck I'm a moron

Yeah, I giggled like a girl when Orton knocked McMahon down. I was like, fucking screaming at the TV, "DO IT. DO IT, MOTHERFUCKER YES DO IT" and then I nearly jumped off my couch when he fucking did it.

Keep in mind that I cannot stand Randy Orton at all. He was booked like fucking gold right there, and that punt was the best thing done right in a long time. The fact that I marked out so hard for somebody I'm so damn tired of really says alot about the moment.

Aside from like, the Chris Jericho shit (which went on way longer than it should have and didn't really have much of a point to it), that segment was grade A stuff.

Vince is a tough bastard, but if you kayefabe it up he could have went down so fast with the slap because he became a fragile man after what happened with his last appearance with the money giveaway. To a lesser extent you could assume he became a little messed up in the head when he faked his own death just to see if people cared about him. I hate that it had to end up that way, but Benoit fucked that storyline up.

I wish Vince's last appearance was explained. As ridiculous as it was, it was pretty huge.

No. That made it better I thought.

I was more just complaining about Todd Martin.

However, I'd chirp you for your remarks if you hadn't have rick rolled Vince McMahon

It would have been better if Orton punts her right in the ovaries so she and HHH can never have kids again.

Uh... maybe not quite that... honestly I think the fans would cheer if he punted her in the head... well at least the fans who watched in '02.

Although I loved the end segment between Orton and Vince, I also think the WWE 'dropped the ball' in terms of REALLY putting Team Legacy over.

Orton shouldn't have looked like a confused pussy after kicking McMahon in the head. He should've had that smirk, and look of confidence/evil in his eyes.

Priceless should have then come out and looked surprised (as they did). However - Orton should have then given them a "You're with me or against me" type look and then Priceless should have also had that look of evilness and cockiness afterwards.

This is why I think Stephanie is behind the punt to Vince. That's why Randy was like "what the fuck did I just do?"

No i mean like they changed something in the storyline. Like they planned on having Y2J take Vince out but thought it'd be better if Orton did.

Well it was a better move... having Orton do it definitely made it seem unpredictable and was a welcome surprise.

This. Like, if he would have gotten the smirk and been arrogant/cocky Randy, it just would have... been normal. Standard. It'd be textbook Randy Orton. His reaction sold it--like, he was legitimately shocked by his own actions. He scared himself. It made it feel that much more off-the-cuff, that much more hectic and exciting. Randy hadn't planned it. He just... did it.

And he did it hard.

I definitely like this better. I get that they were going for the "Oh shit, this is going to have consequences look," and while that could lead into Orton becoming a bad-ass who just doesn't give a fuck, I think he should probably be at that stage right now. He's been playing the stoic bad-ass type for months now.

Having watched the segment, I don't yet think Orton is a great actor, or that his promo delivery is perfect. The way he said "You do not want to do that, sir," could have been a lot colder, and better spoken. It should have sent goosebumps down a viewers spine, but I didn't quite get that impression from it. He just sounded argumentative.

Right now, Orton is walking the line between bad-ass and cocky brat. He needs to stick with one, and go all-out. Cocky brat will work better for a heel persona, but I can very easily see the bad-ass persona being cheered.

The thing about Orton, is that he went out there thinking he is the hottest commodity not only in World Wrestling Entertainment, but in entertainment. He is so sure he can make the WWE money, that he doesn't believe there will be backlash to telling the boss' daughter to apologise to him, and basically calling her a baby factory. Why would he not care about that, but then care about standing his ground against the boss. Right now, I am more interested in Orton than I have been in years. I want to see him act really cool about his "decision" to kick Vince, and try and rationalise it:

"Vince was about to fire me, I was simply stopping him from making a mistake."
"Stone Cold Steve Austin used to beat the crap out of Vince all the time, and he's getting put into the Hall of Fame."
"If Mr. McMahon really wants to fire me, he can...but he won't, because he realises now that he has something special."

I'm looking forward to his next confrontation with Stephanie or Shane McMahon. I'm thinking one of them is backing The Legacy.

Props to Vince McMahon for taking the kick to the head like a champ. That will probably be another landmark moment for the guy, along with his match against Mick Foley, that go a long way to establishing his *ahem* legacy in the WWE.

You know, people complain about the lack of realism in WWE, and then we hear shit like this.

Orton's reaction to what happened was perfect. Theoretically his career should be OVER now (I'm not even going to mention criminal charges, because, think about it.) Why the hell would he be looking confident and evil when he nominally just shot himself in the foot?

Wouldn't it be funny if he broke kayfabe in the sense that he was acting all weirded out was because he just punished Vinny Mac with that kick?

Jesus Christ that motherfucker kicked the shit out of Vince.

If he'd broken kayfabe he wouldn't have stood there and stared, more likely hed' have hit the floor and tried to check on Vince.

All in all, I loved the way everything went down. I elevated when Orton slapped Vince. My previous post comes from a point of view of that while Orton was supposed to play this Dickish role, he knew that he caught the boss with a good stiff one. His first reaction may have been to break the wall and see about Vince. but the 'superstar' in him prevented it - kind of like when Owen Broke Austin's neck but still hammed it up to the crowd, and went with the finish to the match as best they could.
