It split the phone/DSL lines. My question is, can I just use a regular telephone line splitter to replace it with? Do I need some special splitter since I have DSL? I have the DSL plugged directly into the wall now, so I don't see why I'd need anything special.

I should have just said,

Can I use a regular line splitter for use with DSL and a phone line, or does it need to be something special because of the DSL.

Any splitter is fine.

Normally, you need a micro-filter instead of a line-splitter (looks the same as a line splitter).

Check with your ISP/phone company because I know in some American cities, there's already a filter on it. But I know it's not nationwide.

Both things will work with a simple splitter, but if you needed a filter, your internets will go screwy when the phone is being used/ringing.

Over here, you have to use a filter otherwise your phone line gets a whirring noise through it when you're talking to someone.

If you hear that, get a filter.

What KYR said.

Also when we built this house we had it smart wired and a filter added at the junction.

Hmm, maybe I should build my houses from now on to avoid having to deal with this.
