That's pretty damn open ended.
I'm guessing you're talking about electronica. What kind? Techno, Trance, House, Drum and Bass? There's shitloads.

Na, try Alabama 3 (A3), some country-gospel-acid house music. Straight in the mainline.

Listen to that show every week. The tracklistings will be on the webpage as well. It really is the best overview of the biggest clubbing genres right now.

Deadmau5 is about my favourite thing in dance music at the moment, think he's Canadian though.

I tend to listen to the Mash up, Judge Jules, Pete Tong and even Scot Mills' floor fillers on Radio1 listen again when I'm at work.

I downloaded Ghosts n Stuff by Deadmau5 and I like it, but I'm more into the ones with vocals as well. As terrible as it sounds I remember Boogie2Night by BootyLuv one of my favorites when I was there. Stuff like that. Party All the Time by Sharam, DANCE by Justice, stuff like that.

Check out "I remember" or my fav track of the year "Move for me"

Any great vocal track is Every Word by Ercola ft Danilla. Probably my favourite song in the past 5 years.

Some real club music.

Live from 2020 in Bournemouth in November last year. A-Trak - from Montreal. the best DJ I have ever seen. I saw him at Glasto, I didn't know hands and ears could work like that. 2nd Hour is Erol Alkan. London DJ. A legend of the house/rave scene for the last 10 years.

To clarify, since making this first thread I have a few more specifics.

The show I hear on Friday and love is Scott Mills' Friday Floor Fillers on Radio 1. It's on when I come home from work, and while some of it is just Top 40 songs remixed, there is some good dance music as well.

Tinchy Stryder "Take me Back" is probably the song that I would use as an example of what I like though.

I can not for the life of me get into Richie Hawtin, even though he's a local legend(born in Windsor Ontario). Dubfire is kinda hit or miss with me. I saw him do a live set in Toronto and was bored to tears. Saw him in Windsor 2 months later and loved it.

It depends what side of dance you like really. Basslines and melodies or continuous rhythm. Techno is not for everybody.

Dubfire is usually different depending on how long his set is. The shorter ones are more varied whereas the longer ones are a lot more progressive. Listen to that essential mix though, it will appeal!

Do you guys like dubstep at all, I like some of the haunting sounds that it produces but I don't really know much about it/the better tracks, just occasionally hear some of them on Annie Mac's show.

Fabien Barthez
10-08-2009, 06:29 AM
I just saw it as mellow DnB, until I heard 'Where's my money' by TC / Caspa

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ciOmlFLZNx0&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ciOmlFLZNx0&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And then I started digging around it a bit. I don't really like it as a style overall. Well, I should say I don't really like it as a clubbing style. I couldn't hack a full on dubstep night... But I like alot of DnB, and I have been to a few Valve Soundsystems. Mind you, they are getting taken over by Dubstep now as well....

I guess my feeling is is I am all for the stuff that sounds like the speakers are going to regurgitate on you because the sounds are so filthy, and it works towards the end of a DnB set, but I would always prefer to just keep it to what Annie Mac chooses for me, and leave it at that. She picks out the bangers, mostly. And there is plenty of seriously wank Dubstep out there to search for.

I always forget about this thread.

I feel it to be where I should discuss recent clubbing times.

2 weeks ago, I went to watch James Zabiela at Sankeys. 3 hour set of Techno, minimal, breakbeat and scratching. Albsolutely sick. There is nobody like him.

Last weekend I went to the final 'Keep it Unreal' night, from Mr Scruff. Well, the last one at the Music Box in Manchester. Scruff DJ's for up to 8 hours. He starts off with slow deals, like old soul and blues and rnb, then picks up the tempo progressively through the night to include funk, disco, hip hop.... none of the tune, apart from his own you will know. The last 2 hours are pretty wind, because everybody has been building up with the music, getting more intoxicated as time goes on... It is a bit frenzied once it kicks off. It all just works so well. Plus he has his own unique cartoon visuals, and a Tea Shop... If you've never seen Mr Scruff, he gets about, and his is brilliant. Sort it out.

I don't get out as much as I would like, my mates aren't really big dance fans like me. The last proper dance night I had was Eddie Halliwell in Blackpool which I think I mentioned in this thread already. Was out in Newcastle a few weeks ago but just went to a club that had nothing special on and was more commercial dance than anything else.

Fabien Barthez
10-08-2009, 07:25 AM
I often have a similar problem. Unfortunately, I am just of the age where guitars have the power.

I don't get alot of my friends who claim to 'hate' clubbing. You meet some of the soundest people, and have the best conversations at a real club night. Cheesy clubs full of pissed chancers looking to prove themselves, while boom boom pow blares from the dancefloor, and scrubbers fat arses are jiggling out of their market-bourght slut-dresses make me want to end it all. It isn't the music so much, more the people that go these places.

I would try to plan a trip to the Warehouse Project in Manc before it closes again, if I were you mate. Makes Syndicate look like 'the Loft' on Hollyoaks. Or better still, Chemical Brothers are Djing at sankeys in Manc in November. You don't get to see that very often...
