View Full Version : Why DID they change Benoit's hometown?

I might've missed it somewhere, but Benoit is being announced as "currently residing in Atlanta Georgia". Not too smart changing it just a matter of weeks prior to his "big title defense" in Montreal, like the main page says :/

You Mean, Edmonton?

Yes he does.

Anyway, anyone know why?

I think they announced him as American at Mania so that Earl didn't get confused and ring the bell at the wrong time.

Anyways, I have no idea why they've decided that Chris isn't allowed to be Canadian anymore. This almost reminds me of that Highlight Reel in Montreal where Michaels kept pointing out the fact that Jericho lives in Florida and making it out to be a mortal sin and the sole reason the crowd should boo him. Unless they're going to try and turn Benoit heel in Edmonton (which would never ever ever ever work ever, especially since the match is against Michaels), there doesn't seem to be much of a point to it.

Then again, they kept switching Cade's first name back and forth between Lance and Garrison, made Shane Helms change his name to Gregory even though no sane human being would ever mistake him for the McMahon, and moved Tajiri onto Raw for no readily apparent reason, so looking for a method to WWE's madness seems kind of pointless.

I smell heel turn and he'll turn on the fans at Backlash.

Yep, my bad, Edmonton. It's all the same up there to me ;)

Yeah, I don't see why they'd do that for no reason...

Thats horrible. That means heel turn at Backlash.

personally, i prefer Benoit as a heel. i mean, think about it. the man has no charisma. IMO the whole sentimental face roll, for him, played itself out after wrestlemania. i was thinking "where does this character go from here, a feud with eric bischoff?" IMO the best role for Benoit would be that of a sadistic heel who likes to torture opponents with the cross-face after they have already tapped out, and is possibly in tight with the corrupt GM, for added heal heat.

There's really no way possible to turn Benoit heel at Backlash, unless he renounces his Canadian heritage. If WWE does that, I'll be disgusted.

However, as long as he's a Canadian fighting Shawn Michaels, he'll be about as over as anyone ever was. He needs to keep the title and keep his alignment at least through Backlash, IMO.

i dont see what the big deal is about being a heel and being over with the hometown crowd as well

It would just look stupid if they try to turn him heel, and Benoit's getting a huge face pop.
