Loved the first one, this one looks quite interesting. Shame its quite some time before it comes out though.

I loved the first one too, but I know I shouldn't have. If you want highly repetitive, that was what it was, but for some reason it worked. Can't wait for this.

Civil War adapted to a game, huh? I kinda like it, but I wonder how the hero vs hero dynamic will translate to a game where all the heroes have to work together in a co-op gameplay system. And will they pull back the damn camera this time?

I didn't watch the vids, but if that's what it's based on I'm now super-hyped.
Wasn't there a Marvel Zombies game planned?

I don't think so, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got some zombie skins for this game. It would make more sense than that shit in SvR (what the fuck were they thinking?).
#BROKEN Hasney
02-06-2009, 02:59 PM
Fuck that, it would just be skins in an Activision game. We need a proper Marvel Zombies game.

I would normally agree with you about the Marvel Zombies, but if they're interested in the civil war story and pull this off PROPERLY, I will disagree with you.

I'm hoping to own a 360 or PS3 by the end of the year so I might wait to pick it up. I have the first one on the Wii and it's pretty fun even though the motion controls are tacked on. I'm glad they've improved every new game in the series (X-Men Legends included). I started X-Men Legends II a month ago and Marvel Ultimate Alliance is so much better (I loved both X-Men Legends still). I wonder how awesome this will be.
Kalyx triaD
02-07-2009, 01:04 PM
I hope the interactive moves are still in. It's funny, I found the Wii controls silly but liked using a thumbstick to control certain action (like Thor's tornado, where I have to yell, "For Asgard!" while doing it).
That does it, buying the damn game again.

Cant wait for this. Went back and finished beating the first one again a couple weeks ago. The one thing I hope they fix is the mini game on the PS3 where you had to tilt the controller in certain directions to complete a task. It didn't work half the time for me. I liked the PS2 version better where you just hit the coresponding button as it popped up on screen.

IGN put up a preview of the game.
You choose a side (either for or against the Registration Act) and stick to it for the whole game. There are multiple endings, of course.
You can choose which superheroes join your side, if you think Iron Fist may have a good reason for joining Iron Man for whatever reason.
Iron Fist confirmed, BTW.
IGN, the pussies that they are, made no mention of whether the cramp camera would be pulled back in any way or why the visuals just barely improve over MUA1. They'll basically hype until review time when they'll surely complain then, not when the devs might do something about it.
#BROKEN Hasney

Yeah, IGN's a joke site. Every game they preview will be the best game of all time ever.

I loved the first one.
I have high expectations for this one..even though..didn't the first one end with Galactus getting pissed? I wonder if we will something about that on this one.
thumbs up for the Iron Fist.
I wish they had side missions like X-Men Legends were you took part of famous comic book moments like Juggernaut raiding the mansion. Would be nice to have a mission like that with the zombies..

The only thing I loved about the Wii controls was rotating the camera by rotating the nunchuck.
Playing this game made me realize that I always hold the nunchuk like 3/4 upright so the camera was always going crazy on me

It's nice that they are basing the story around civil war, but just once, I'd like to be able to play all the notable story arcs in marvel history. Kind of like how you pick sagas in dragonball z games.
I can never get into these games, because the story feels like a saturday morning cartoon, where nothing notable ever happens. It feels like filler.

Better dig out the old X-Men Legends games if you want more X-Men, since if anything this game will probably have less X-Men in it. They didn't really have a huge involvement in Civil War in the comics.

I think the game will probably have the usual x-men..Cyclops,storm,Wolverine,etc. Maybe gambit due to Wolverine Origins. I hope this game is longer than the first one. I swept through the first one pretty quick and I was left hungry.
The only guys I want are Punisher and Ronin.

I took my games in to Gamestop to trade to get some credit to help pay off what's left of this, and they game me $7 for TNA Impact, but only $2 for Madden 09. Now I know it's probably because they get so many copies of Madden and the new one is out as well, but I was shocked to get over $.25 for Impact, much less more than Madden. They gave me $5 for SVR 09 and $1.75 for SVR08. Ended up with more than enough to cover the rest so I am just amped for Tuesday.

So it looks like the final roster of the game will be:
Captain America, Daredevil, Deadpool, Gambit, Green Goblin, Hulk, Human Torch, Iceman, Invisible Woman, Iron Fist, Iron Man, Jean Grey, Luke Cage, Mister Fantastic, Penance, Songbird, Spider-Man, Storm, Thing, Thor, Venom, Wolverine.
Wii exclusives: Psylocke, Cyclops and Blade.
Xbox 360 and PS3 exclusive: Juggernaut.
Nintendo DS exclusives: She-Hulk and The Sentry.
There is a ton of other characters..however, they haven't been confirmed as playable or what role they will have. Most likely they will be members to recruit for each faction.
Among them there is:
A-Bomb, Bishop, Blacklash, Black Panther, Black Widow, Bullseye, Cable, Cloak And Dagger, Colossus, Equinox, Firestar, Grim Reaper, Hercules, Havok, Justice, Lady Deathstrike, Maria hill, Moonstone, Patriot, Prodigy, She-Hulk, Spider-Woman, War Machine and Wonderman.
good line-up in my opinion. Sad not to see Fury's name in the playable list or Ghost Rider.

That is a great lineup. It could be cool if you could play as Havok, it could bring about some fun times. I kind of miss Magneto though. He was my favorite from X-Men Legends 2 and once you had him powered up he was almost unfair to use.

They did that last year with the four downloadable characters as well. Just meant you could play with people who had them, but you don't actually get him.
Well I haven't located one yet but I read stories about just sticking anything in at the receipt website tends to work. But can take hours to get it so I dont know if its successful yet or not.

Apparently it goes like this XXXXX/XX-XXX
first 5 is store ID. you can use gamestop store locator to get a store ID
next XX is register #, I hear keep it 01, 02, or 03. And last xxx is sale #, I heard keep it under 200.
So I did 2, we'll see what happens. Might be delayed now because other people tried some bogus info. but im thinking back and wondering how hard it would be to check this since no date is involved, and transaction # cant pass 999 anyways.
Just tried it and it said

Yo, for the store ID I see most stores have 3 or 4 digit numbers, but the receipt number has 5 digits. Do I just put a 0 at the beginning or what?
I guess. That's what my receipt said. I actually just copied what was on my MW2 receipt.

I looked at my receipt when i bought it last night and got the 5 digit store number off it no problem, got the register number which is right next to store number. and the transaction number was right next to that. i just hope this works.

LOL poor guy
I preordered Marvel Alliance 2 and I tried to go to the website to get my code. The website said "Page not found".
I called customer service and the rep. told me that they are out of codes and that is the reason behind the "Page not found". I find it annoying that I preorder the game to find out I am out of luck.
Not sure why activision did not place the codes inside preordered copies of the game or send the retail store codes, instead of VIP ACCESS cards to only hope you get a code.
So I going on a limb here, if anyone has a extra Juggernaut code, could you please email the code at Vladimar@rocketmail.com.

Ya know, I really feel like they could be doing more with the marvel liscense than a simple hack n slash dungeon crawler type game. That genre just seems a bit underwhelming given the power these characters wield in the source material.
It also doesn't make you feel like you are playing as these characters like other superhero games do. I mean let's face it. This genre limits what you can do with a lot of the characters.
I think other superhero games have proven that one of the best routes to go is the openworld sandbox type of game. Now imagine that with the entire marvel universe instead of just one hero and his rogues.
At this point, for me it's a case of "been there done that" with this series, and I think they need to reboot this, before worrying about their film properties.
Kalyx triaD
09-20-2009, 02:08 AM
The game has little choice but to play like the genre it's engine is based.
I think the game is better than ever, I just want a bigger roster. The camera, although better angled, should still pull back more.
Fignuts
09-20-2009, 02:15 AM
The game has little choice but to play like the genre it's engine is based.
Obviously. And that's kind of my point. It puts limitations on what you can do. I just don't think this genre suits superheroes as a major ongoing series. It's a neat novelty, to get to play as marvel characters instead of the typical fantasy characters, that these games are known for. But it wears thin after a while, and I just think there is only so far you can go with it.
Kalyx triaD
09-20-2009, 03:21 AM
Of course, but if you're cool with the genre (> me) it's not a problem. I like dungeon crawling with four players, and this game is way better than Gauntlet and more interesting to me than that Blizzard game (forgot the name).
I do agree that a game where Superheroes are displayed accurately would be cool, but certain powers will never work together in a game without an engine that limits them in some way. Guilty Gear and Blazblue has characters that play as if they came from different fighting games, but a strict underlying skeleton keeps the games balanced and playable.
Say this Superhero game has Batman and Superman. Batman plays according the AA engine and Superman uses the 'Returns engine. But how these engines present the world and how you interact with them is very different.
The only way to make and Batman and Superman play true to their comic versions, while making them coexist in one game, is to use some sort of governing engine that will most definitely limit how Superman, Batman, or both actually play. It's unavoidable if you want a smooth running, fun experience.
Take the recent Transformers ROTF game (of all things). At anytime during multiplayer somebody is walking/running, driving, hovering, or flying a jet. Now it would be very difficult, I'd say impossible, to have the car transformations drive like a racing game. And then have the jet transformations play like a jet combat game. And have the the running around as a robot be more platform like and so on. All of these methods of play have nothing on games that specialize in them, BUT this was the sacrifice in order to have a game where all these methods of travel can coexist in one game.
Now imagine a game with the wacky superpowers of comic book heroes! Sure you can have Batman play like AA, Superman play like 'Returns, Punisher play like an FPS - but what you'll end up with is a hot mess you're pull your hair out trying to balance. They would have to succumb to a governing engine, and somebody will get the shaft.
So while Marvel UA2 seems to play to the tune of Wolverine and Deadpool, the governing engine will give Storm, Iceman, and other characters who honestly should be able to do more... the shaft. All for the sake of the engine.

I definitely agree with you on all points kalyx. You have to have a foundation of gameplay that every hero in the game follows. I just feel that the foundation in this game puts on more limitations than others might.
But I also know these aren't bad games, and a lot of other people enjoy them. It's just what I would do with marvel.

Did anyone else feel disappointed with this game?
Don't get me wrong, the game is great..but I feel compared to the first one..I don't feel like much was added. I feel like this might even be a step back to an extent. I feel like the RPG elements have been stripped down instead of improved, the items have been removed, etc. The only thing that I feel like they improved on were the NPC's(which the first one left me hungry for.)
I feel like this game is shorter also. The first one took me about 18-20 hours or so. This one took me about 7 hours(with out unlocking any characters) and it will probably be an additional 7 to play it from the other side.
I also thought the story was pretty predictable. They could had done way better things than what they gave us for a final boss. I don't know..like I said, it's not a bad game..I just personally don't feel like it's better than the first one. Another thing that I thought is missing is lack of variety. The first one took you to a Skrull world, Asgard, Atlantis, hell, etc. In this one..it was pretty limited. A trip to Madripoor or Japan would had been nice..

And that's what makes MUA so freaking underwhelming in a lot of people's opinions. Not everyone, mind, or even the majority, but it is why some people are unimpressed. They set the bar low. Really fucking low.
I'm not saying that it would be easy or even possible to make an engine that can handle everyone fairly, but it's like they didn't even really try.
Marvel makes sacrifices to put heroes and villains on relatively equal terms all the time in the comics, but a game where Hindsight Lad and Squirrel Girl have a fighting chance is just wrong on just aboot every level.

They finally put the DLC for this back up on XBox Live. They took it down after New Year's and it's back up for anyone that needs it, such as myself for putting off getting it till I got around to playing, until the end of this year. So anyone that wants to dump 160 MS points can get Juggs now and 800 more for the other 5 guys. I guess PSN will be up soon, or may be up now I haven't checked it.
