View Full Version : List of awesome GBA games.
I skipped over the GBA era, so I haven't gotten much clue about what there is. I ordered a slot 2 flashcart for my DS so I can play some GBA titles. So far I have these on a list waiting to be downloaded.
Donkey Kong Country 1
Donkey Kong Country 2
Donkey Kong Country 3
Doom
Doom 2
Mortal Kombat Advance
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance
Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition
Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros.
Mainly got it for ports of games I know. I hate RPGs and wrestling games. Share your thoughts.

Metroid Fusion
Metroid Zero Mission
Mega Man Zero 1-4
All three castlevania games.
Oh, and I hear the DKC ports have been washed down. I've been very excited to play those until I found that out. :(

How do you feel about Fire Emblem? If you likey, there are a couple of GBA titles and I actually recommend you play Sacred Stones first, even though it's the newer of the 2 because it's more forgiving. Also, if you like those check out Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 1 & 2. Those titles are in the same vein (turn based strategy), but with mechs.
Also, http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/35295309/gba+2800?tab=summary
Don't know if emulation Roms are what you use for that slot 2 flashcart or not, but this might help with the choices at the very least.

Yeah, Superstar Saga is the shit for sure. So, G, are the Roms what you use on those flashcarts? Because I will so get one since I have all that ish just sitting on my pc.
I think so. I've never heard anything about two different types of roms. :y:
You cannot just use a slot 2 device by itself, you need to link it with a slot 1 like a CycloDS (which is what I have).
It's so worth it. The price of a CycloDS (which is the best flashcart out) is $47 shipped, which is the price of 2 games basically. Then you get the entire DS library. :D
And what I'm doing is adding an EZ Flash 3in1, which is a slot 2 cartridge that has rumble, ram (for using internet browser), and plays GBA roms. $18.50 shipped.
So for $65.50 I have everygame from the DS and GBA collections.

Oh yeah I should mention that you'll need a MicroSDHC card for the Cyclo. That's where you put your roms. I have an 8gb ($15 @ newegg) and I have probably 75 games on mine and I still have 4gb free. My daughter has a 2gb and currently has 42 games. So, a 2-4gb would be plenty. I got one so big because I have lots of mp3's and porn (which the CycloDS does play). :shifty:

Right so I was looking at the EZ 3 in 1 in that second link and they were aying some people report that it doesn't work with the original DS model, and only works with the DSLite. Can anyone confirm this?
You need this one then. Didn't realize you had a Phat. :o

K, new question: I just looked at that GBAtemp site's DS emulation guide thing, right? It says it's out of date right at the top, but I just wanna be sure... the CycloDS and EV 3 in 1 have the necessary software (minus the Roms) pre-loaded, right?
No, you have to download the current updated firmware.
For the Cyclo, it's cake. Drag and drop the update.evo file onto the microsdhc card and it'll take care of itself when you turn on your DS.

Everyone seems to be missing the he hates RPGs bit.
http://www.ndsthemes.com/themes/title/cyclods
That's where you get themes. I'm trying to dig up the how to on setting them up.
Fuck it, I'll just go by memory.
Extract the files into a folder. Go into your microsd card and create a folder named Skins in the CycloDS folder. Then put the downloaded skin folder into that. So,
CycloDS - Skins - XXXXX
I have a bunch of skins which gets cycled through everytime I turn it on. So you can pick however many you want. Just keep adding the folders in.

Pretty sexified. Was just playing Retro Gaming Challenge after my pc rebooted due to a 5 second black out.
Perfect emulation on these.
75 DS games and 300 or so GBA titles. Fire Emblem is definitely the last title I'm ever buying for those 2 platforms.
PS do you know of any other websites like www.replacementdocs.com? They don't have nearly enough manuals for DS and GBA. Most games have intro levels that explain shit, but some don't and the controls are a tad complex.
300 GBA games
I can't wait for my 3in1. :(
I do not know of any websites like that. Infact, I didn't even know about that one. I need to bookmark that shit. Glad to hear you are enjoying it. :y:
If you play a lot of RPGs, make sure you take advantage of the Real Time Save and the In Game Text features. They are both awesome additions which helped me through Phantom Hourglass.
Funky Fly
02-26-2009, 01:11 AM
Explain these features to me, Mr. Salesman.
First, make sure RTS is enabled from the Cyclo's main menu (game, media, options). Then, hold select while you press A to select a game. A loading bar will pop up, which means you can release select. While in game, go to the Cyclo's in game menu (a+b+x+y+l+r) and then save or load your progress. You only have to hold select the first time on each game. And FYI, the file size is pretty big, so keep that in mind.
The text reader lets you view a walkthrough (or any text, really) while playing a game. It's been awhile since I've done it, but I think all you have to do is rename the text file (which you copy and paste from gamefaqs (duh, I know)) and rename the file to match the rom's name.
Mario_Kart (U).nds
Mario_Kart (U).txt
Also make sure it is in the same directory as the rom. Then just bring up the Cyclo's in game menu and go from there.
Funky Fly
02-26-2009, 01:31 AM
cool. Space is kinda limited so I may not use the save too much, but I def see potential with the in game text thing.

02-27-2009, 05:17 PM
No, you need a CycloDS Evolution (http://www.cyclopsds.com/cgi-bin/cyclods/engine.pl?page=products-cyclodsevolution) to do that. Check out all the other links in this thread to get just about everything you'll need and videos on how to set it all up.

Hard to even find 16gb cards here. I got an 8gb and only 1.5 gb left. Thankfully, most DS and all GBA games are small. Largest I've seen was 128mb.
Are you trimming your roms? That'll save you like 1/3 of the space.
Funky Fly
03-03-2009, 11:58 AM
Buh? Trimming?
Each game is a file size of 4,8,16,32,64,128,256....you get the idea. Most games do not use all of those blocks, so a trimmer will erase the unused blocks to shrink the rom to the game's actual size...thus saving you valuable space.
I use Rominator which does it automatically.

Funky Fly
03-04-2009, 12:29 AM
Rominator. Just ordered a second Cyclo/EZ/MicroSD set for my brother. You have corrupted my family with piracy, G.
Have your brother create an account and rep me.
Does your brother have a phat or lite? If lite, did you order the 3in1 or 3in1+?
Funky Fly
03-04-2009, 01:53 AM
We all have phats. What does the 3in1+ come with?
It's the same, but a newer version with bigger ram or something (phat's don't use the +). It's the one I got. Bad news, is it isn't fully compatible with Cyclo's yet. Rumble doesn't work, ram for internet doesn't work, and loading games from the Cyclo itself doesn't work. You have to use GBAexploader. From what Team Cyclops said, it will never be compatible because it isn't a good firmware build or something like that. I dunno, too technical.

No, haven't bothered yet because from what I've read, there's a bit of work to it. Like having to code the rom for the specific emulator or some shit. Good news is, Super Mario World works fine on SNES.

Protected game auto-patcher
As many of you are probably aware, a number of recent games have included a form of copy protection where the game will exhibit strange problems if you attempt to run it as a backup rather than from the original cartridge. Until now it was necessary to either use a "protection bypass cheat code" or wait for us to manually include a compatibility fix as part of a firmware update. We have now developed a system which automatically disables the checks in protected games without needing to use a cheat code or wait for a firmware update. The system is working in all protected games released to date, and providing there are no major changes to the way the protection works - it should work into the future. The aim is that when protected games are released, you will be able to enjoy the convenience of using backup copies without needing to wait for either a bypass cheat code or firmware update.
As this automatic patching functionality is new, we would appreciate help testing protected games to ensure that they function correctly and the protection is properly disabled.

Yes, the rom isn't trimmed, so you have to do it yourself. Didn't know 1.54 was out, as I haven't visited gbatemp today yet. Will check it out.

Too lazy to read through the list..but Tactics Ogre is pretty fun.
It is a lot like Final Fantasy tactics but with more strategy involved. You could even tame monsters at some points and make them join your party.
Hard to track down unfortunately. I got my copy for about 30 bucks 3-4 years ago. I am guessing it's much more now.

A demo of Bob's Game has been found on the developer's website.
Bob's Game was developed for the Nintendo DS by an independent developer, taking over 5 years to completely finish and has yet to be published.
The demo isn't working properly on several flashcarts (SuperCard DS One v3, R6 Gold, R4 DS, etc.; working on CycloDS), so you may want to save time slappin' the ROM on your flashcart and give the demo a spin on an emulator.
