- According to San Antonio, Texas' KSAT channel 12 station, WWE star Steve Austin was arrested earlier today on assault charges stemming from a domestic dispute with his current girlfriend. Austin's girlfriend, who wasn't identified in the story, told police that she suffered injuries to her hands and knees when she was reportedly pushed down during an argument in Austin's home.

The report also states that Austin is no longer under probation from his earlier domestic case with ex-wife Debra Williams. The newscast added that further details would be available later tonight.

Austin is currently scheduled for an autograph session tomorrow afternoon in Secaucus, New Jersey. There is no word right now on how this recent arrest will affect him from making the appearance tomorrow.

Back on New Years of 1974 (long before I was ever even thought up,) my dad had a lot to drink and nailed my mom in the face, causing serious blood loss and requiring stitches. Upon hearing this, some of you people on these boards would immediately label my father a violent, drunken wife-beater and that would be that in your minds.

The true story goes thusly: My mom and dad were at a New Years' party at his parents' house. He had a hell of a lot to drink and fell asleep on the couch. At about two in the morning my mother had had enough and wanted to go. In an attempt to rouse my father, she shook him rather hard. Still a bit lit up and startled out of sleep, he shot bolt upright and threw his arms out, accidentally catching my mother in the forehead with his ring which caused the cut. Upon hearing my mother scream, my grandmother entered the room to find my mother bleeding with my obviously sauced father standing right there, and drawing the same conclusion most of you probably would have if you'd read my initial account of the incident and nothing more.

Point: We have no idea of the full details of either Austin incident. For all we know, in either or both of these cases Austin reacted in a completely innocent manner that caused the incidents. As Austin was not convicted of the first charge and no more than questioned of the second, to declare Austin guilty until proven innocent as I have said is an offense to a fundamental right of every human being.

Austin, as some of you might know, is actually a little deaf, an effect from listening to really loud rock music when he was a teen. As a result, sometimes when he talks to people, he really has to go "What?" a few times to get them to speak louder. Of course, other people sometimes think he's just being obnoxious.

My sources tell me that the woman was attempt to give Steve a list of chores to do around the house, but he couldn't hear her. He asked "What?" a few times and his girldfriend was forced to repeat herself until she was finally exasperated and shouted "Are you deaf, you stupid bitch?" Steven, hearing only the "deaf stupid bitch" part threw up his hands in exasperation. The spontaneous action caught the woman in the chest, pushing her backwards onto the floor, where she suffered injuries to her hands and knees.

This would have been perfectly innocent, except that out of habit, seeing someone on the floor, Austin got down on all fours and started growling nonsensical gibberish at his fallen girlfriend.

Tess Broussard, 37, told cops Friday that she met with the athlete to discuss the couple's troubled year-long relationship. But Williams (referred to in the report as "SP," for suspect) became irritable and yelled at Broussard, "I'm tired of talking about this shit. Shut up!" Broussard (referred to as "C," for complainant) claimed that Williams then grabbed her, and she began struggling with the 6' 3" wrestler, who eventually threw her to the ground. Broussard landed on her hands and knees, and later told officers she had injured her right hand. Broussard provided a written statement to cops, who photographed her injuries and are now investigating the incident. This is not the first time the belligerent 39-year-old World Wrestling Entertainment star has been accused of injuring a woman outside the ring. In November 2002, Williams pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of assault for striking his then-wife during an argument. He was fined $1000, sentenced to a year's probation, and ordered to perform 80 hours of community service and attend a domestic violence counseling course.
