Pier Solar began life in the Sega homebrew community Eidolons Inn.
In 2004, Eidolons Inn began a community project to try and create a RPG based around its forum members.
Over the course of time the initial development evolved and became far more than the small project that was initially devised.
The project was given the title "Pier Solar" and a team assembled to continue on going development, the team was eventually named Water Melon Development.
Water Melon's Pledge

Many still consider the idea of a brand new Sega Mega Drive / Sega Genesis game impossible but Water Melon want this dream to become a reality.
Pier Solar will be the first new Sega Mega Drive / Sega Genesis game to be published this millennium.
We hope all those who purchase Pier Solar will gain the very same feeling of excitement / joy they had from playing the Sega Mega Drive / Sega Genesis for the very first time.
We want people who play Pier Solar to experience the same level of enjoyment and pleasure, we did from creating it.

It looks a little like the old Phantasy Star games, it doesnt look too bad. I have a question though, are they going to try to sell the rom or are they putting it on an actual Genesis cartridge?

I'm pleasantly surprised...but confused. They gotta know that a good chunk of people don't have the Mega Drive or Genesis anymore. I gotta respect the effort in wanting to release it, but how are they going to market and sell it? They can't market it as 'new' because most retailers only carry the next gen consoles. Noone except vintage console dealers would carry them.

Christ, they want $35 for it.

That is a bit much even with all the stuff that is included and I am sure that really no one has the Sega/Mega CD as well.

Wat? I have that and a 32X.

You don't even need the Mega CD as it just enhances the soundtrack if you use it.

Know about this for a while, just never posted it here because of the above responses ;)

I can't be the only one who's had a Mega Drive gathering dust in a cupboard for the better part of a decade.

Not that I'd buy it, but plenty of people are bound to still have the console.

I'd be ecstatic if this is a resurgence of old consoles, carts and all. I know there's not a HUGE market for it, but I'd happily pay $40+ for new NES, Genesis, SNES, etc games as long as they're good. I'd fucking splooge if Capcom released an actual Mega Man 9 cart.

I'm sure there's enough of a market to pull off a complete resurgence, considering those NES/SNES clones going around. And there's a huge market on e-Bay for used classic games. The only question is if they'd be willing to shell out more for what it would have cost if they had put it out on PC or even as a console download - say, $30-$50.

I still have my NES, Genesis, SNES and N64 hooked up and play them semi-regularly. I'm sure there are plenty out there who do. Playing on an emulator just isn't the same, even if you have a controller-to-USB converter.

To get new as in this millennium games for my old consoles would be fucking awesome.
