On a television. How do I go about doing that in a manner where I can also then upload the saved video online? Because I have no clue how to...

Easiest way is to buy a video capture card (such as these http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=video+capture+card&x=0&y=0) and go from there.

The software to do that should either come with the card or you can readily find it online.

How would those things work? They look like something I'd have to install into the television which makes no sense to me...

You install it inside the computer...

Then how do you capture off the television?

Forgive my ignorance, I am not too quick in these things.

You connect the cable from whatever you're using (satellite box, cable line) to the input on the card and you have TV watching/recording capabilities.

you just need an input as aposed to an output

(kinda like the streo jack is to the mic jack out is to in) this can be RCA (yellow cord) or S-video...

an alternative is just buying a dvd recorder and using simple software too move the clips and edit them, like windows movie maker for instance...you can't do it live but you can do it...

If Requiem was the mod of the Tech Forum, this sort of thing would be dealt with.
