No word on whether the songs transfer, eh? I really don't dig these stand alone "big name band games" because I am the kind of dude who digs variety. I don't wanna play just Aerosmith or just Metallica or just The Beatles.

Well the guitar hero ones at least have a bunch of music from other bands, to add variety.

They'd be better off just exporting them. I've been spoiled by Rock Band. Fuck switching Discs every 5 or 6 songs.

They said when the deal was announced that it wouldn't export to Rock Band as it would be a completly different game.

However, they also said it would not have the Rock Band brand on it so fuck knows now.

You know, I think the Beatles are a band for which I would put up with this. Especially if it's the only way to play the Beatles.

I didn't do it for Metallica, I didn't even do it for Aerosmith, but for the Beatles? I could see it.

STILL, I would rather have transferrable content, because Rock Band has set a precedent, and Harmonix would be retarded to go backward.

The publications gossip section rumormongers that the game even makes it possible for multiple singers to belt out Beatles tunes, each with different mics. If true, this would obviously mean more armchair rock stars could sing at once, which could be a very good thing or a very, very bad thing.

Damn.

Dubbed the Limited Edition Premium Bundle, it includes The Beatles: Rock Band game; a Höfner Bass controller, Beatlesque and Ludwig-branded Rock Band drums with classic pearl finish, a metal kick pedal and a vintage replica drumhead ; plus a microphone with stand and, according to an email from retailer GameStop, "additional special content."

McCartney's replica Rock Band bass looks awesome, backwards (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/mccartneys-replica-rock-band-bass-looks-awesome-backwards/)by Griffin McElroy (http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/griffin-mcelroy/) { 4 hours ago } http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/001xbox001.png (http://xbox.joystiq.com/) http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/001nintendo001.png (http://nintendo.joystiq.com/) http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/001playstation001.png (http://playstation.joystiq.com/)

Regardless of your feelings towards the mop-topped British rock sensation upon which the next Rock Band game is based, you have to admit -- The Beatles had them some lovely instruments. Two of these six-strings (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/the-beatles-rock-band-guitars-confirmed-pre-order-club-announc/), Lennon and Harrison's Rickenbacker 325 and Gretsch Duo Jet, will be coming as $99 add-ons to The Beatles: Rock Band (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-beatles-rock-band/) -- however, a third replica guitar will be coming in the game's Limited Edition Premium Bundle: Paul McCartney's Höfner bass guitar, pictured above.

According to a recent Harmonix press release (http://www.thebeatlesrockband.com/preorderclub/index.php), this wireless periph will work with all versions of Rock Band. It certainly looks gorgeous, but as our well-read colleagues at Engadget point out, this Höfner controller was designed for a right-handed player. McCartney, of course, was a Southpaw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_McCartney). Man, the game isn't even out yet, and already Harmonix is taking outrageous liberties with history. Unbelievable.

A THIRD guitar.

The Beatles: Rock Band, DLC not compatible with other Rock Band games (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/the-beatles-rock-band-dlc-not-compatible-with-other-rock-band/)

Harmonix Creative Director Josh Randall confirmed to us today that we should think of the Rock Band platform and The Beatles: Rock Band as two totally separate entities. Meaning, that The Beatles: Rock Band tracks and DLC will not be playable with any other Rock Band songs and vice versa.

So, only owners of The Beatles: Rock Band will be able to download the Abbey Road album when its released as DLC later. There will also be no export feature for The Beatles: Rock Band into Rock Band. It's really a shame and one we hope that some licensing agreement in the future can fix.

It is a dick move, but it makes sense business-wise that they would want to force people to buy Beatles Rock Band if they wanted any chance of playing the Beatles.

Maybe...just maybe after the game is out for a while, they will give us an export option.

It reads like so many rhythm/music game releases in the past -- the ubiquitous track list (http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/07/03/rumor-rock-band-2-setlist-leak-part-two/) leak (http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/07/24/rumor-guitar-hero-world-tour-setlist-leaked/). The Beatles: Rock Band (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-beatles-rock-band) is still a few months off from its September 9 release date but Ripten (http://www.ripten.com/2009/06/14/rumor-the-beatles-rock-band-set-list-leaked/) has gotten its hands on a leaked list of the possible tracks from the game (found after the break).

The list does include the three tracks we checked out in our hands-on with the game at E3 (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/hands-on-the-beatles-rock-band/), though it also looks an awful lot like a list of Beatles singles across their career. Ripten notes that the ten tracks found in the glorious opening to the game (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/the-beatles-rock-band-intro-is-our-real-love/) are all included in its leaked list -- and it is approximately the same amount of tracks (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/variety-45-songs-from-catalog-for-beatles-game/) we know the game will be shipping with -- though we've yet to receive any official confirmation or denial from MTV Games, Harmonix, or EA.

That's a very strange list. Including Boys and Twist and Shout, which aren't originally Beatles songs and leaving out:

A Day In The Life
Strawberry Fields Forever
Let It Be
Yesterday
All You Need Is Love
Hey Jude
In My Life
Penny Lane
Nowhere Man
She Loves You
Here, There And Everywhere
Blackbird
Martha My Dear
The Long And Winding Road
Happiness Is A Warm Gun
Free As A Bird
Help!
Eleanor Rigby
I Will

I could go on and on with the omissions.

That said, I'm still very excited to play this game, as I am a huge Beatlefan and will no doubt play this until I've got blisters on my fingers. I just hope DLC comes quickly for this. I know some has been announced, but there's a ton I want to be able to play ASAP.

i think we will be pleased:

Beatles music will be presented in the form of the band’s complete albums (although people will still be able to buy individual songs from the records). The first three albums scheduled for release are “Rubber Soul,” “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Abbey Road.”

Ultimately there is a problem in that everything short of their full catalogue will illicit complaints from a large number of fans. This does not have everything I want, but is a solid collection of Beatles songs. Plus, it does look like we'll get DLC.

Because:

No band game would ever put on a song that was light on a specific instrument.
No band game would ever chart non-guitar instruments for guitar.
No band game would ever feature a sub-optimal song based on the popularity.

let me ask you guys a question for those who play instruments. To me, if you play an instrument, it kind of seems like something like this or all the other music games wouldn't be much fun because you're not really playing the song.

Like I play piano and if a "keyboard" came out for this game, I don't think I would find playing Let It Be on the WII Keyboard much fun.

does it keep your interest even if you play real instruments?

These games are not trying to replace your interest in in real instruments. You can do both. I do both. I fucking love GH/RB, and never once did they lower my interest in the real thing. In some cases they heightened it, but for the most part they're largely exclusive concepts.

They are after all videogames.

I don't like music games at all for the most part. My favorite part of playing music is the creative process and hearing how something might sound if i do this or what about if i do this?

However I will be picking up this game because I want to live the beatles story because I love them so much and think that it's probably more of a story than most rock band games where somehow you get HUGE playing someone elses songs.

It leaves me thinking:
What is this a deep machine game?

And before you say anything I realize the albums up to hard day's night and even beatles for sale had covers, but It was those songs the beatles actually wrote that cemented their legacy, not Twist and Shout, even though it's an awesome fucking song.

does it keep your interest even if you play real instruments?

It keeps my interested. Vocals are trickier than singing in real life, because you have to ape exactly what they're doing. Even worse with people who actually sing slightly flat, because it fucks with your sensibilities. Plus, you can't manage a note by simply singing, say, down a sixth (A lot of artists will even sing their own shit picking notes harmonic to the original line when they sing live).

The GH/RB games have actually been great rehab for my fucked up shoulder and the attached, and it's still fun to plick up a dumb little plastic instrument and stum away. It's not the same experience, but it's still fun as fuck.

Clox has a point, in his own pretentious way. The games aren't about creativity; if you want that, get a real (insert instrument here). They're not even really about simiulating the experience. They streamline the experience of playing an instrument. It's about fun, which is why Kalyx's 24 tier, six strum bar guitar game doesn't exist yet.
