So, Season 2 ended tonight, with a promise that Season 3 will start in June.
Where does the show go from where tonight's episode ended?
Is Carla really dead? Does Michael make it back to shore before passing out? If "Frazier's dad" burned Michael, why was there no recognition when Mike got in the helicopter? Does the show turn into a "Bad Guy of the Week" with no overarching story? (I sure as hell hope not)

I loved the finale.
I can't see the group that burned Michael really letting him go just like that. I'm sure he'll have the bad guy of the week with the agency that burned him always kind of lingering.

I will however say I would have liked for 'the war' to have gone on like one more episode. Like, have one more show this season with the Micheal and gang going up against Carla for another episode. I was fuckin hyped when they started it.

When I saw Mahoney's name in the credits, I figured it would have to be the big guy.
Also, I was disappointed that Victor died. I love Michael Shanks, and I loved that crazy motherfucker.
I'm betting Carla is dead.
There is no reason to think the overarcing plot ends with the finale here. They opened a can of worms in the last few minutes of the show, an obvious hook for a new season, even if the agency or whatever you want to call it is out of it, there's more to the story. Not to mention, he's still burned.
I doubt that Sam and Fiona are gonna leave him out in the ocean.
Also
Michael: It's a little hard to trust someone when they've tried to kill you...FOUR times.
Victor: Four? That seems kind of high. *thinks* Oh, come on, you're counting earlier with the chair!

Thoughts on the season premiere?
I thought it was pretty solid, and sets up the season nicely. Mike having to be suspicious of everyone from his past should make for a nice running storyline for the season, along with the "Had enough yet?" notes left by Management. I'm interested to see where this goes, though, because they could run the risk of getting predictable after awhile.

I was really wondering if they were going to have to move Mike's mom to a new house. I guess we'll get a few more insights about Mike's dad as the house gets renovated during the season.
Wouldn't it be something if it ended up being Mike's "dead" dad who was the person who burned him?

I seriously wonder if anyone could ever make a movie starring Campbell and Chuck Norris. If so, it'll probably be scheduled to come out the day after the world ends in 2012.

I'm guessing most of the season, though with my luck, the episode still on my DVR has her come around, just to spite me. I'm wondering specifically whether or not she ends up "Victored," Which seems likely if she joins up OR gets that big piece of evidence. Deadski.

Alright, finally got around to seeing the new episode and I got to say, this show hasn't lost a beat. What intrigues me though is that this season seems like it's going to be centered on the psychological impact being a spy can have on a person. Now I can't say that for certain, but if this does seem to be case, it does pose a question:
Should a series that was originally promoted as 'hot summer action show' add this layer of emotional storytelling?
Once again, this is a question that came to mind from only seeing the first ep. of this new season, so it could all end up being moot. But if this is going to be an ongoing amendment to the series, I for one am looking forward too it. I think this addition of "realism" to the scenario could be just what this show needs to be fully complete.
parkmania
06-08-2010, 07:29 PM
I'm fine with the added level - it was a "hot summer action show" 3 seasons ago, and is now a split-season show with half of the eps debuting in the winter. As long as it keeps what made it special, it's going to need the extra development to keep going long-term.

Long as things keep exploding and people keep shooting, it'll qualify as a fun action series. If they can maintain that and deal with the side effects of being a spy, more power to them.

I told my husband that since USA already signed for the 6th season, and with how this season looks to be heading, it wouldn't surprise me if this is the beginning of the end. I really don't think it would do the show justice if they tried to push for another season after 6.

I was joking with my wife that this season is just going to be about him fixing his car. Mike, Sam, and Fee just go on dangerous missions and bring down bad guys in the proces of securing the parts he needs to fix his charger...
I've always wondered if they'd ever have Sam end up being bad. I thought it was a possibility until recently. They've really painted him as too much of a "good guy" for him to really be bad though.

I'm assuming that Mike will find out that someone was feeding him info.
Basically, he knew we were coming because someone in the CIA leaked the info, basically setting off the chain of events that had him kill himself. Basically, someone knew Mike would learn everything, so they cut the head off the last connection so Mike would never find out. I'm betting it's the bearded CIA guy... or Sam.

Just my opionion but they could do where after he finds out and say the CIA welcomes him back to the organization, the CIA turns around and arrests Sam and Fiona. So Michael has the decision of staying with the CIA or getting Jesse to help him break them out and basically he is backed to being burned and on the run.
Just a way I think they could go with it to help keep it exciting

Two problems:
Where does this leave Madeline? With them being "on the run", they can't exactly keep going back to her each episode for "When Michael was younger" stories and bad cooking.
Seems too A-Team for my likes: "...escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Miami underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if noone else can help, and if you can find them maybe you can hire The Burn Team."

This is probably the most well written and acted show on TV now. The only show I can think of better or equal quality is Breaking Bad. If they can maintain the action and keep advancing the story well, I see no reason this couldn't go 8-10 seasons....
Requiem
07-26-2011, 03:52 AM
Definitely have to disagree with 'well acted'. I mean, it's good I guess. I like the show. But the level of acting on Burn Notice doesn't even compare to that of a show of such high caliber as Breaking Bad. I mean, this just pales in comparison.
captaincharismark
07-26-2011, 05:26 PM
I have to disagree. Any show that can keep me interested while telling a good story is well acted. While BB is more slow and mythodical with their story telling, having more fast paced shows isn't a bad thing. The success of the show pretty much means millions agree with that analysis...
I think you mean it's well produced, not well acted.
captaincharismark
07-26-2011, 09:46 PM
I personally think it's well acted, written and produced. The writing of a show ultimately depends on how well the actors deliver the lines. Jeffrey Donovan, Bruce Campbell and Gabrielle Anwar do as well as any show on TV I've seen. They perfect convey whatever emotion the situation calls for. Thus the main reason I think Burn Notice is the second best show on TV now, following Breaking Bad.
Requiem
07-27-2011, 12:38 PM
^That. And no, the success of a show does not mean millions agree that the show is incredibly acted. Neither does keeping you interested. I find a lot of shows 'interesting', and some of them have good stories. Those reasons do not make a show well acted. Good acting makes a show well acted. The cheese factor of Burn Notice takes a bit of their acting cred away, IMO. Just can't be compared to the likes of Breaking Bad. Again, it pales in comparison and there's just no way you can deny that. Breaking Bad's acting is of such a higher class than Burn Notice that I don't know how anyone in their right mind could say that they're on par.
It has a high production value for a show on USA, and has decent acting. The story is pretty good, but not the best. For the type of show it is, I'd say it's one of the better ones on TV right now.
Requiem
07-27-2011, 12:38 PM

I'd have to ask what your top 5 shows are then. While Burn Notice may not be as great as Breaking Bad, it is a great show. The story is used in a compelling way with the client of the week and burn notice dynamics. Unlike alot of shows on TV, the quality for Burn Notice remains consistent. I personally find the humor in the show to be a redeeming aspect. Definately don't think the lines are cheesy, as they make some of the not so interesting spy stuff more tolerable...
Breaking Bad
Boardwalk Empire
Californication
Bored to Death
The Walking Dead
Mad Men
Entourage
Game of Thrones
Eastbound & Down
Psych
Weeds
Dexter
HBO/Showtime/AMC + Psych basically. All currently running, all comfortably "better" than Burn Notice. There's nothing wrong with it really, it's harmless, like "popcorn TV" but it's far from the best written/acted show around.
captaincharismark
07-27-2011, 08:26 PM
Again it all comes down to personal preference. IMO Burn Notice is the best show on TV other than Breaking Bad. Scrutinizing every small detail and not enjoying the show for what it is defeats the purpose of it. When you say a certain show is "the best", it ultimately means it's your view on what you perceive as the best. It's all subjective to each person, so what I think is the best doesn't mean it literally is.
Requiem
07-28-2011, 01:19 AM
So it's your favorite, not the best. Got it. And it's not really nitpicking.. it's just observing the facts of the show. The acting quality is simply not there. The actors are good, but as I said.. there is a level of cheese to it that, while it does not detract from the SHOW, it detracts from the quality of acting. Already said it is a good show for what it is. But it is just not 'high class' enough to compete with certain other shows.
My top 5? Of shows that are still airing (otherwise there would be a couple other shows at the top of this list) -
Breaking Bad
Game of Thrones
Dexter
Modern Family
Fringe (and yes, this is a 'favorite'. It's probably not going to win an Emmy any time soon, and I realize that)
Boardwalk Empire just narrowly missed my top 5, but that's not a bad thing. The other shows on that list are extremely high quality.
Requiem
07-28-2011, 01:25 AM
It's also terribly repetitive compared to shows that are more straight forward story telling. The episode-to-episode stories are typically the same formula over and over again while advancing the overlying story every couple episodes. The top few shows on my list are constantly changing, constantly evolving. Each episode -is- the story.
But I get that. That's why I said it's great 'for the type of show it is'.

I wish I could properly discuss this more comparitively with you, but I haven't see any of those shows except BB. So, I can't really comment in any informative way. Burn Notice does have a cheesy type quality with the jokes and so forth, but that's what makes it work for me. Having all that dull and boring spy expertise needs a balance. The problem then becomes not overusing the humor vs. the more dramatic scenes. That's one problem I have with Burn Notice. It probably could be taken more seriously if the dramatic acting was a more frequent occurance...
Requiem
07-28-2011, 07:23 PM
See, and there is the problem. You haven't seen enough TV to be able to adequately judge. I think if you saw a lot of quality TV you would have a whole new outlook on what TV shows can be. I think you would actually see it differently and while it wouldn't make you dislike Burn Notice (that's not the goal of this), it would give you a whole new repertoire of 'top shows' to enjoy.
You should download those shows, starting with Dexter. Also, those are only shows that are still airing. I feel LOST and Rome (HBO series) easily top my list.
captaincharismark
07-28-2011, 10:14 PM
Yeah, being able to see all the currently produced shows would give me more of a balanced look at quality. Kinda hard to properly compare the acting depth on TV if your viewing is limited to basic TV channels. It may not be the best show on TV, but definately on USA(Psych is pretty close though).

Or is that too much of a red herring?

I don't think it's that much far fetched to be honest, but what do you do once you arrive at that point park?
After 4 seasons the whole essence of the show hasn't really changed. They're still doing the good deeds while Michael is on a mission to find out who burned him/go after who burned him/go after who killed the people who burned him.

I honestly don't know, but with the reports that the show will run for this and one more season and then be done, I can see that being the big payoff in the end.
Also, does anyone else think that they're trying to force a love triangle with Mike's new handler?
I don't think they are going to "force" anything but the look that Fiona had at the end of the last episode makes me think something is going on with her and maybe she's gonna step away from Mike and the more Pierce and Mike work together they might get closer.
My mistake was trusting you.

Good ending for the summer finale. I guess the latter half of the season is definitely the finale of the show considering
Mike has found the final member of Management
Can't wait for November.

We're only halfway through season 5, and according to http://www.aoltv.com/2010/04/16/burn-notice-renewed-seasons-5-and-6/ we're owed another full season, so it'll be interesting to see how long the process of winning "the final battle" goes.
