Right if one wanted to have their xbox play copied games how would one go about it? Is it something I could do myself with minimal knowledge and an idiot proof guide or would I have to go to loads of effort of sending it off somewhere and that? Can I get on Live with a Xbox that plays copied games?

You can do it yourself and it is getting easier, but I still don't think it's at the point where anyone can do it. Because I made such a hash of removing the case, I got my second one done in a shop locally.

You can get on Live but there are occasional ban waves. Best way is just to check every single game you download with abgx360 to see if it's verified against a retail copy. Then MS don't even know you're playing copies :D

Good chance you'll get banned from LIve.

Good chance you'll get banned from LIve.

I don't agree anymore, though I was banned before security got tightened on the custom firmware. Ban waves have been almost non-existent recently.

As long as you don't go out of your way playing games online before the release date, and check to make sure the security sectors on your disk are valid, you really shouldn't have a problem.

You always run a risk, though. But the guys doing the hacks know what their doing.

Yeah, had this box for a year and no ban.

1 of 3 of my XBoxs was banned, but that oldest one was using really old firmware. If you know what you're doing, the chances of being banned are pretty much nil right now.

Here's the guide I dl'ed awhile back to doing this.

It looks easy enough, but I think I'll have to get my hands on another 360 to try it though.

So if I was to do this as long as I'm not some idiot playing games on Live that aren't out yet I should be ok yes?

And in terms of burning games afterwards thats all straight forward is it?

Yes.

Burning games is kind of specific. If you want 99.99% success, you need to use Verbatim DL disks and a program called ImgBurn. Still pretty straightforward, though.

Right is there a certain firmware I want it flashed to if I get someone else to do it? And when Microsoft release updates would I ahve to get it reflashed and pay for the privildge again or how does that work?

1.5 has been out for a year and has had no updates in a while because it's near perfect.

HOWEVER, 1.6 is coming out as some of the new discs do not boot with 1.5. It's not even a dilibrate ply by MS to stop the discs working, it's just the games with the NXE on the disc have a different checksum. It even boots on 1.3 (Not reccomended as it has less security than 1.5/1.6)

So when 1.6 comes out I'd need it reflashed? Hmm that could be a pain.

The firmware update came out a few days ago. 1.51 is what everyone thought would be 1.6.

-edit- Actually there is a 1.6 coming out soon, but its just 1.51 with the ability for people to rip their games with all of the 360 drives supported.
