Just got a 60GB PS3, UK PAL, for £100.

Was wondering if anyone has had any issues with putting in a 250GB HDD? I want to upgrade it, but not sure on what is max allowed.

Also, is there a definitive list of what PS2 / PSX games don't work on it? Seems very debated on the internet so maybe someone knows a 'definite' list.

Just got one myself. All PS2 games should work.

Yeah, what is the deal with PS#s and backwrd compatibility? This page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3#Retail_configurations) says the newer ones don't have it. What is that all about?

Upgrading my PS3 hard drive is on my to do list. But pretty far down right now.

As for issues, I've heard about people stripping the blue screw and you're fucked if that happens. Look around the net or jump on youtube.com for a video.

Basically, the NTSC ones are better as they have hardware emulation. The PAL ones only have Software emulation.

It was deemed to expensive (HW E) to continue, but why on earth they took the S/W E out is beyond me.

500GB is the highest you can go right now in terms of 2.5" HDDs and that can go in the PS3 also.

And from the list Funky posted, you should be safe with the backwards compatibility. I don't think there were any restrictions between hardware and software emulation, meaning you can play any PSX/PS2 game.

And if you want clarity, this is the best I could find: http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

Yeah, but the ones being produced as of October/November 2008 do not have backward compatibility at all according to that list. That is 12 kinds of gay.

That is true. I guess the 80gb is the 60gb's replacement?

I know, I said that that they aren't Backwards compatible anymore. Hardware Emulation cos it was expensive, but I don't know why software wise. I know it's not there anymore, but I don't see where the cost is? If it's been developed and works, what have they done to make it more expensive? Or fuck it up with updates? I just dont get it.

I just bought the 80GB, mainly for blu ray player which is looking sexy. Ridiculous though that it didn't come with a fucking HDMI cable. But whatever they are like 5 bucks.

Stupid like how printers do not come with a USB cable.

PapaGeorgio
03-07-2009, 10:52 PM
Yeah, it makes no sense seeing as how these things sell for fairly cheap. It's like they want stupid people to buy the cables at stores where they are expensive, instead of nabbing them online.

Mooияakeя™
03-08-2009, 10:24 AM
All printers I've brought since 2007 have come with a cable here. I have afew spare, but not gonna go sending them off to US cos that'll just cost me! lol.

The fact they are cheap is pathetic too. Why can't they include a HDMI cable if they only a couple of quid. Same with printers.

G
03-08-2009, 12:32 PM
Because the cables aren't cheap in retail stores. That is where they make their money.

Mooияakeя™
03-09-2009, 01:49 PM
HDMI cable I last saw here was maximum £4.99, It may have been £3.99 (Random linky here: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/156835)

And printer ones are cheaper. (random link again: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130579)

But I see it's different in the US....

"Due to request from retailers, printer manufacturers have gradually stopped including the necessary printer cable to connect the printer to a computer. Retailers usually make a huge profit on selling cables, as much as 3000% (a cable cost about $1 to produce and package, then sold at retail stores for as much as $30)."

Probably never happen though, as Sony loves shooting themselves in the foot these days. I mean, first it's letting rumours about price drops go on for ages before finally flat out saying no, and then it's making the demo for Patapon 2 exclusively available only to the people who've already preordered it... as in the people who don't need convincing that it's a worthy purchase.

They made a mistake when they took away backwards compatibility. I think it's by far the most stupid move sony has done. If xbox can do it so can sony. This is a big reason why PS3 has been on the bottom of the gaming industry.

The PS3 never had full S/W emulation. The "software" emulation still had the PS2 GPU, they just took out the EE at that point and emulated that.
