So here are the results from last week, regarding the Michaels vs Hogan controversy in 2005:

Results: 81.13% of you thought Michaels was in the right while only 16.98% said that Hogan was in the right. I was the only one that voted neutral.

This Week: This week we also go back to 2005 to discuss one of the biggest wrestling controversies in the past 10 years. Yes, that is correct. Edge vs Matt Hardy over the love of the human botch machine, Lita.

The Scenario: While Matt Hardy was on extended leave for knee surgery, rumors started to surface around the locker room and eventually on the internet questioning the integrity of Matt Hardy's long time girlfriend Amy Dumas (Lita). Matt found out the hard way that the rumors were indeed true and that Lita had been hooking up with Matt's long time friend, Adam Copeland (Edge) after Hardy found a text message from Copeland on Lita's phone. Matt quickly sought out to embarrass both of the parties involved by spilling the story onto the internet in full detail. Soon after the stories surfaced on his website, Matt Hardy was released from the WWE on April 11th 2005. On WWE television, Edge and Lita were paired up together. While on of this was happening, Matt made a strong case on the internet for his re-employment that led to fans chanting "We Want Matt" every time Edge was on television. Hardy was eventually re-employed by World Wrestling Entertainment and put into a program with Edge and Lita.

Things to Consider:
-The videos shown are more than a little biased, as I cannot find Edge acting like a jackass about it (maybe he didn't act like one though in the public eye, dunno.)
-Amy and Matt were together for 6 years before this incident.
-At this time, Edge was married.
-Matt and Adam had been very good friends for years before this incident.
-Matt resents Adam for the affair while Adam resents Matt mostly for making it all a public affair.
-Many feel that Matt acted very immaturely about the situation, but also feel that he wouldn't have gotten his job back with a high profile fued if he hadn't acted the way that he did.
-The affair lasted for weeks without Matt Hardy finding out.
-Both men acted very professionally towards each other in the matches that they had following the incident.

I decided when I made this series that I would always vote neutral as to not to sway the voting but if I had a vote, I'd vote for Mate here. Sure, he overreacted but alot of people would've acted just a crazy in the same situation. Relationships are touchy. Not only did this affect his relationship with his girlfriend of 6 years, but it affected his relationship with his long time friend. I commend him for not killing somebody.

I go with Matt. I hand it to the guy for being honest. He was on the loosing end of a screwed up situation, And he didn't hide it. He let people know how he felt, and how much it hurt him. Some people say he acted immaturely, but I can see and feel a lot of real pain in what he went through. You can tell he really loved Lita, and she broke his heart. But instead of letting her get away with it, he spoke up. He stood up for himself, and for that my vote goes to Matt.

Not to mention it made for compelling wrestling. This was the most personal feud in WWE sense Shawn v. Bret. And it dealt with something that I'm sure a lot of us out there have gone through.

Remember how huge Edge use to be? How big of a face he was. This situation was the birth of the "Ultimate Opportunist" Edge character. Taking advantage of the void left by Matt to take his girlfriend. I'm not saying it's cool, far from it. But in the bigger picture of things they turned a negative into a positive and it made both men bigger stars.

P.S. Dose anyone remember the part where Matt showed up at titan towers and punched Edge? Was that a work or true? I'm pretty sure that is when WWE "released" him.

I've got to side with Matt Hardy. You don't shag your best friend's woman. I mean, round these parts, you don't even do it if they break up. It's something that mates need to talk about, and Edge and Lita going behind Matt Hardy's back to do this shit was absolutely horrible of them to do.

Matt reacted as a human being would. Swallowing your pride is something that you can try and do at first, and I believe that Hardy actually did that. I believe the first thing heard about it was that Matt Hardy said he had broken up with Lita on his website, and that he told his fans to "ask her why." This was then linked to a story where two WWE Superstars were told to stop their affair, or something. Matt Hardy only really lost it after he was released, I believe, of which I am still not sure the reasons were. It may have just been the WWE putting Edge higher on the talent list, and considering Matt Hardy the more expendible of the two?

While I think Matt Hardy acted a bit like a teenager, sure, considering how young he was when he came into the WWE, and how this was his girlfriend of six years, I can understand how it could just leak out like that. That they can work professionally together shows something about their real maturity levels. Some good to be found in the stink Matt Hardy made, was that it actually did get him re-hired. If he had just swallowed his bit, he probably wouldn't be under contract right now.

It also made Matt Hardy one of the hottest face acts in 2005 (and someone I believe the WWE sorely missed the boat on), and Edge one of the biggest heel acts of 2005.
