There is another thread about the idea of a WCW One Night Stand. That reminded me of a idea me and some of the boys discussed a while back.

With the three shows WWE is running now. Why not drop the whole Smackdown/Raw thing? Why not make it WCW Smackdown or Thunder , WWE Raw, and ECW well ECW.

Now each of the different "real" brands shows can have a different rating.

WCW could be PG.

WWE could be R.

ECW could be NC17.

Or something like that.

Also they could run the shows in different venues to cut costs.

And the production value could be different between brands both to cut costs, and to give the appearance (Kayfabe) that they are three different company's.

WCW could have a well for lack of better explanation WCW style production.

WWE would use the High end HD production.

ECW could be done in a more gritty, almost public access style, much like EC dub was.

I think the three "brands" would go a long way in establishing a real difference between the shows. And it would make roster swaps seem more meaningful. The way it is right now I really don't care if someone goes from Smackdown to Raw or ECW and what not, because it's all under the WWE banner. It's like switching shifts at the same job.

What do you think?

While I think one should have the higher 14 rating (specifically RAW), it won't happen. It's too easy to book for their current audience to lose it on one of their shows.

Also, no reason to rename any brands. They're all established at this point and the only thing changing one (or more) would do is create confusion.

But having each brand slightly different is fine, and that's how it is. ECW is booked more like a traditional wrestling programing and RAW and SmackDown! are more Attitude Era-style but family-friendly. I think it would be better to leave RAW with the Attitude Era, SmackDown! for the current family-friendly crowd and ECW for the more hectic style ECW actually was. Leave ECW and RAW as TV-14 and leave SmackDown! as PG.

I'd rather see WCW formed as a group that came in and try and took over the WWE. Shane McMahon could sponsor them, and their wrestling leader could be Chris Jericho -- the man who unified the WCW Championship with the WWE Title. You'd just have Jericho win the World Heavyweight Title for the third time, and rename it the "WCW Championship," and start calling himself a five-time WCW Champion.

Big Show joins them without too much prodding, as does William Regal. Finlay could turn on Hornswoggle, and go back to being a bad-ass heel with the WCW group. You could even get some faces wearing the WCW colours. Get Norman Smiley to work some shows.

Actually I dig the idea of Eric Bischoff coming coming back and buy the Smackdown! and rename it as WCW Smackdown!. Have the commentators sit near the entrance area and save good matches for ppvs.
