I tried this with a different title, but did not get to many responses.

There is another thread about the idea of a WCW One Night Stand. That reminded me of a idea me and some of the boys discussed a while back.

With the three shows WWE is running now. Why not drop the whole Smackdown/Raw thing? Why not make it WCW Smackdown or Thunder , WWE Raw, and ECW well ECW.

Now each of the different "real" brands shows can have a different rating.

WCW could be PG.

WWE could be R.

ECW could be NC17.

Or something like that.

Also they could run the shows in different venues to cut costs.

And the production value could be different between brands both to cut costs, and to give the appearance (Kayfabe) that they are three different company's.

WCW could have a well for lack of better explanation WCW style production.

WWE would use the High end HD production.

ECW could be done in a more gritty, almost public access style, much like EC dub was.

I think the three "brands" would go a long way in establishing a real difference between the shows. And it would make roster swaps seem more meaningful. The way it is right now I really don't care if someone goes from Smackdown to Raw or ECW and what not, because it's all under the WWE banner. It's like switching shifts at the same job.

What do you think?

I had a similar thought, but I figure there just isn't a need for WCW's name.

Nobody misses it.

If it was to be done, it should have been off the momentum of Shane's kayfabe buyout of Nitro (the greatest night in the Monday Night War history, imo).

If they are going to continue promoting the shows as different I wish they would make more of an effort. They all use the same set. Wrestlers are no longer brand exclusive. And two of the shows are WWE and the other is ECW. I think the idea of having three different "companies" is great, but they are so half assing it.

I think that would actually run up the costs rather than drive them down. Right now they all share equipment/crew just so they could haul less stuff with less crew and do ECW tapings in the same night as a Raw or Smackdown. Also, from the point of view of someone watching on TV (a casual fan) why would I want to watch this supposed show that's filmed in this low quality just because something was done that way back in 1996? That's not progress.

Changing SD into Thunder back when WCW first got under way would have made sense back when Shane first bought WCW, but I agree with Kalyx that there is really no point now. If anything, they should consolidate the rosters into two shows, like they did when the titles were first unified and leave the production as is.

IT could drive up costs I guess, but with ECW they could do a smaller stage/set up.

OR get this, just rotate the main camera around a little. Remember when they first brought back ECW and Paul was in charge. They made the main camera point west to east, so that the announcers where facing the screen. What if they did that for ECW, and for "WCW" they set it so that the stage was facing the screen.

There are all kinds of ways it could be done to make it different.

Most people are right in that it's too late to do it now. The Shane/WCW angle, topped with Vince's speech about what he was going to do with WCW and ECW ("Put it on a shelf.") would of been prime time to do it. And I think it would of been gr8 for the invasion angle for WCW to have had it's own show.

I was really hoping when I saw Shane on WCW that they where just going to keep WCW going with Shane in charge and have occasional "crossovers." That would of been awesome. But we got that lame WCW light invasion angle. What a waste of a great opportunity.

The whole idea about camera angles doesn't make the show. Remember when Raw put the announcers by the stage for some idiot reason? After a few months of fail they put it right back.

I agree that certain differences other than logos should be implemented but with other factors. I made a thread about the show's adopting differences a while back and I'll link it (if I find it). It can explain what I'm saying better,
