It suuuuuuuuuuuuucked. Not based on the game but they did have some kind of deal with Rockstar when GTA III was released and packaged the film and game together. San Andreas/CJ probably has the easiest/most obvious to 'convert' story

GTA would be one of the easiest games to crossover. Obviously it wouldn't be a straight conversion but something along the lines of anti-hero vs. the bad guys. I'm guessing everybody that is down on it would be due to the fact video game films tend to suck. Done well it could be fine. Odds are it's gonna happen one day anyways

If they made one it would never be called Grand Theft Auto.... Rockstar cracked a deal with the people behind the old Grand Theft Auto movie back before GTA1 came out. They deal was that Rockstar could use the name for their game as long as they promised to never do a movie based off the game with the title. They didnt want people to be confused between the two products or think that they were related.
