View Full Version : Why is it...

Why is it that I can buy Shawn Micheals as being a threat to pretty much anyone on the roster, but anyone else his size I don't always see it. Like Shawn Micheals v Batista or Bigshow, yeah Shawn has a little more than a fighting chance. But like Jericho or CM Punk it is like, they might be able to steal it, but not really get a defenative victory.
Does anyone else ever get this feeling?
Maybe it is because of Sweet Chin Music, the fact it comes out of no where and it looks like it can knock someone out.
Maybe he just has that swagger, that little it factor that makes him more believable.
I don't know, discuss.
I'd say it's because they've built him up over the years as a giant killer who actually succeeded most of the time.

Its because Shawn Michaels has consistantly beaten everyone through his entire career, never being depushed.
Jericho on the other had has be depushed constantly to the point where no one believes in him.

They have made Michaels overcome odds every match he has been in so there is a track record. Whether it be a giant killer, winning the Rumble, or just beating HHH.

It's all to do with the theme music.
Seriously though, I think it's like The Show Off said, it's cause Michaels has never been depushed. Also on the money with the Jericho comment

Yeah, HBK was never made to look like a bitch like Jericho during his first title run. He didn't win his first title in a bitch way like Punk. He didn't go back to the midcard following a title drop like both of them.
I think I see a pattern forming.
HBK talks the talk, he's far better on the mic than either cm or jericho, he can sell himself going up against anyone. To top it off, jericho looks like a butch dyke right now, and CM Punk doesn't look like he could punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

Yeah...Explain Jeff Hardy then.

Michaels is a balding 40 year old dude with a ponytail, who wears rindstone patent leather chaps.
Just saying, I don't think how he looks is really a factor in answering the question, especially with comparison to others.

He's been there longer and Vince can count on him to perform..... simple as that
You see him (HBK) that way because that's the way we have been "told" to think. You think of Punk/Jericho the opposite was cos that's the way we have been "told" to see them.
If Jericho is booked to cheat a win over the likes of Batista and HBK wins without cheating (although he did against Batista) then he's bound to look stronger. Plus, the commentators seem to sell HBK as a threat, where as Punk was the perenial underdog.
HBK has reached legendary status as a main event player. Few others of his size and stature have done this in the WWE.

Exactly, he's still able to pull off the mic even despite this. That promo he did against Hogan in Canada was just fucking classic. Try and get Batista to do that rofl -_-
Jeff Hardy has natural charisma, he doesn't need a mic which is a true gift. The less he talks the better for his character it makes him even more mysterious, people want to know about him.

Jeff Hardy doesn't have charisma. People cheer for him because he's a batshit crazy spot monkey with no regard for his own life.

Bingo Rated G..... Bingo
I disagree. Jeff may not have Rock or Austin charisma, but he has a certain intangible factor in the ring that make people cheer him. I, for one, am not ashamed to say that I am a Jeff Hardy fan and hope that he hits top tier status in the next few years. He isn't amazing on the mic, but practice makes perfect. His matches are always fun to watch and like I said, Jeff just has a certain likable factor to him that I can't pin down. Maybe it's just because he seems to be who he really is; he doesn't put on a character or pander to the audience by making a caricature of himself.
Jeff has charisma, just not really in a verbal form.

Thank you Fox. I knew there was a reason I liked you.
As for the OP....it's HBK. He's been in the WWE for so damn long that him winning anything is believable. He is the Showstoppa not just because he's been booked that way, but because he is.
Also he's just that fucking awsome.
There's something to be said for the element of looking and being "battle tested". Shawn has been so great for so long that it's easy to buy. Hardy has the everyman underdog that is talented thing going. Punk's just a guy trying to do shit martial arts, and Jericho has yoyo'd so many times.
