View Full Version : DJ Hero

DJ Hero will primarily simulate Turntabalism, and will feature gameplay similar to the Guitar Hero games. The controller will consist of a wireless deck consisting of a Turntable, 3 buttons, an effects dial, and a crossfader. Notes will travel in an arc across a spinning record, and the player will hold down one of the 3 buttons and scratch the turntable to play notes. The effects dial will function like the whammy bar in the Guitar Hero games. The game is also expected to feature co-op modes that can utilize Guitar Hero controllers.
I expect a full blown press release a few weeks after GH: 'Tallica drops. So what do you think of the control method? And what tracks do you think should make the setlist?
The controls sound like they could work well enough, and I don't mind the new toy. Face Off modes in this game will be awesome.
These tracks or FAIL:
It's Goin Down - Linkin Park
Session - Linkin Park
Cure For The Itch - Linkin Park
Points of Authority (REANIMATED) - Linkin Park
The whole REANIMATION album - Linkin Park (fuck it)
Sold your Soul to Yo Mama - Mr. Hahn
Yeah my list goes like that for a while.

There's a rumor going round that Scratch: The Ultimate DJ's turntable will be twin and not only that, actually function as MP3 turntables with a crossfader too.
The makers of Scratch are also trying to get this game banned due to Activisions "anti-competitive" practices.
Basically, they did the same as Guitar Hero. They bought out the maker of the peripheral. But this time, the Scratch guys already had a contract and are claiming that Activision has ceased the peripheral maker from sending them their working models.... Fucking cunts.

Announced tracks:
* Gorillaz' "Feel Good Inc." vs. Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine"
* Chuck Brown & The Souls Searchers' "Bustin' Loose" vs. The Zombies' "Time of the Season" (DJ Shadow Mix)
* David Bowie's "Let's Dance" vs. KRS-One's "Jack of Spades" (DJ Shadow Mix)
* Nirvana's "All Apologies" vs. Rick James' "Give It to Me Baby" (DJ Shadow Mix)
* Jurassic 5's "Jayou" vs. Herbie Hancock's "Rockit"
* Tears for Fears' "Shout" vs. Eric Prydz' "Pjanoo"
* Plus tracks from Beastie Boys, Beck, Blondie, Billy Squire, and more
- A player could attach a mic or guitar controller for certain songs and use them as we've seen in past games.
- You could listen to all the music in a jukebox mode just to jam, and jump in that song at anytime to play it (very nice).
- Not all tracks will be mash-ups, some will be remixes of a single song.
- Since most tracks will be mash-ups or remixes, this game will have a lot of exclusive tracks.

Two DJs can battle on or offline. But perhaps more interesting is the DJ vs. Guitar feature. The guys at FreeStyle gave a demonstration with a mash-up of Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" vs. Foo Fighters' "Monkey Wrench." Awesomeness ensued. As opposed to the DJ-only mixes where a lot of cutting and scratching is being done to both tracks, here the DJ cut up "Sabotage" while the guitarist played along with the straight instrumental version of "Monkey Wrench." This mode will boast 10 of its own mixes, just for DJs and guitarists to settle their differences. If there's an emcee around they can hook up a USB mic and rap along with the DJ, but there isn't any gameplay component for this so it will be a pure freestyle.
Also, "IZZO vs My Name Is"
Interest officially dawns.

What type of shit is you guys slamming the set-list two months after the premise was made crystal clear?
MIND YOU: If you don't like the set-list that's fine, there's 'Hero games with set-lists that do nothing for me, too. But it sounds like you guys are bewildered at the gimmick at hand, like it's news to you. That strikes me as odd. Like... "Where the fuck have you been?"
"Oh hey Super Street Fighter 4, that's cool... What's this? What's this Ultra Move bullshit?! 2D with 3D graphics?! That's not Street Fighter that's lame!"
"Where the fuck have you been?"
"I don't follow Street Fighter news as religiously as... blah blah blah."

Dude, I'm not scouring the net looking for stupid updates. I hear about a game before it comes out, kinda put it in the back of my mind for a while until it gets released and then check for reviews. I'm not checking every damn day doing research. Various EDM dj's commented on this when I first heard about it: Tiesto, Oakenfold etc... and as a result I thought there's would be alot of EDM on it, as would any person who heard about this game at first. It's not that crazy a thought. i'm not bitching about the pre-set mash ups. I'm bitching that there's no fucking dance music in this game as opposed to when I first heard about it, that there would be alot.

Please Mackem and Gertner, buy a midi controller. Make your own mixes and fuck this insult to DJing right off. The controller looks shit, and the tunes are shit. Leave this crap to the kids. It's so much more rewarding, and as entertaining as any video game I've ever played.

Maybe so, I've used this programme called PCDJ red for like 8 years which is limited but it's always been fun when I just want to 'pretend' with mp3's. Nothing serious but cool to mess about with every now and then. What is the midi controller then?
Fabien Barthez
10-08-2009, 08:14 AM
I tend to use mixmeister for non-live mixes. It isn't the most advanced software on the market, but I have used it for quite a while, and same as you, I am pretty comfortable with how it works and getting the most from it
live though, I used to use Pioneer CDJ1000 Mk2's and a DJM800, which, with an fx box, was well over 3k. I sold all that and switched to Serato Itch (software), and invested in a Behringer controller. I bourght a little FX controller to couple with it. These things are as versatile as CDJ's, and the whole set-up was less that Ł500. I added a CDJ400 to it, for no real reason, than I wanted to be able to mix 3 tracks at a time..... and it rules man. Only problem being I had to buy a mixer to make it all work, but because all I needed was 2 level controls from it, It is just a piss poor little mixer off the car boot, that cost 3 quid and looks shite in my set-up.
I really want to upgrage my midi controller now I am dead happy with how it works, but even the high end ones don't seem to offer much more than I already have, and certainly nothing I feel I need.
Anyway, Check em out. This is a fairly solid list of whats on the market.
http://www.djstore.com/group/usbcontrollers/page/1/sort/price.htm
and if you Youtube some of the names, you will more often than not find someone demonstrating how to use them. I am sure you will find yourself considering a purchase soon enough. :y: :y:

Like i said, when I first heard about this game, it was from comments that Dj Tiesto and Paul Oakenfold had said. Not from Jay Z or the Killers. Ergo, I was under the impression that dance music would be featured. It's not that big a stretch. Plus, being a huge dance music fan when somebody says the word "dj" the first thing that pops into my head is dance music.

Yeah, Activision is still terrible when it comes to DLC. Not surprised by the price tho. They were paying $23000 a pop to license songs for GH, so when a mix has 2 songs, it's twice the money coming out of the profits, the greedy bastards.
So
I played this a little bit today, and is it just me or is the blue button a much bigger bitch to "scratch" than the green or even red. I realize it's basic physics or whatever, since it's closer to the center, but I'm having a harder time getting perfect blue scratches.
Also, I am playing in a recliner and keep losing grip of the buttons. I have been trying to just move my fingers back and forth, instead of moving the entire arm. Is that wrong? How do you all play? Sit straight up or something with it on a table. Talk to me

I think for best effect you're supposed to be on your feet.
