View Full Version : Has anybody ever given a fuck about Jeff Jarrett?

Back in the Double J days, he was a pretty good heel, and he was involved in some pretty good matches, but that's about it. In WCW, I never bought him as a legit threat and he bored the shit out of me. In TNA, I only buy him as a legit threat because of his position in the company, and still, he bores the shit out of me. Honestly, I think that Jarrett's position in the company alone almost makes TNA hard to watch, considering what an assclown he is.

Does anybody love Jarrett here?

I liked J-E-Double F J-A-Double R-E-Double T. With Tennessee Lee, light up hat and jacket, and the twangy entrance theme. Silly, but it was fun.

His feud with Razor was pretty good at that time. Other than that, I could take or leave Jarrett.

I seriously can't understand how he got pushed to the main event in WCW.

Or is he tight with Russo?

He was a decent heel, and I did enjoy his tag run with owen and then his final singles push with the IC title before jumping ship.

And for TNA, he was probably the right person to lead the company at the beginning...it pretty much set everyone's expectation level and what should be their company motto..."We can't compete"

He wasn't too bad in the IC division, but I never really liked him.

Pretty much the same for me.

He only got reactions in WWE cause he was with Debra, no one cared about Jarrett

The guitar got more reaction, the guitar left more of a mark, the guitar was more feared...

He was as over as he got in WWF(which wasn't that much) due to the El Kabong and the Cougar in his corner. The only other time he was over was when he was in Tennessee, in a promotion owned by his dad.

Then Vince Russo decided to make him the centerpiece of WCW.

I'll repeat it until the end of time. Any promotion built around Jeff Jarrett DESERVES to fail.

I have always like Jarrett. He was a great midcard guy to have around. I only didn't like his never ending heel run in TNA.

I am a huge JJ Mark, but he certainly shouldn't be the centrepiece of the main event, though I think he did pretty well with that in WCW. He's an excellent upper-mid carder. And him tagging with Owen was dynamite, probabably one of my favourite teams ever.

I liked him in the WWF. I watched him at his last PPV(Which I did not know was his last with WWF) and was surprised as hell when he came out the next night on Nitro. That was when he dropped the IC title to Chyna.

He never should have been anything bigger than a solid midcarder. In any main event scene he looks like some kind of punkass who doesn't belong there.

I have never liked him and I don't think it is fair to compare him to the greats in wrestling such as Angle, Foley, Sting, etc. like TNA does. I know it is his company, but everyone should realize he is not on their level.

The Optimist

I never liked him. And he's always been a heel, so at least he's effective in that way. I honestly did sort of like the way he was pushed in WCW in the end. When he paraded around telling everyone that corporate had already told him he'd win the belt soon, so no one fucking mattered but him. And that started in the World Title tournament that he lost and ended up with Bret Hart and Benoit if I'm correct. He won a few months later I think, but it was sort of cool to see how much of a cowardly shit he was, then get his comeupence, only to actually be victorious in some way.

And I'm only now realizing that WCW would have been fine and dandy if it was cleaned up a bit.

Oh, and let me be clear. Everything he's ever done in TNA sucks. And that he sucks at wrestling.

Entirely adequate mid-carder. Beyond that and he is drastically outclassed.

I have always liked Jarrett in the ring and any gimmicks he has had. He knows how to get his character over and always has. Can't say the same for the people he has booked...

He makes people look good. He always has. I think Jarrett was a more valid World Champ in WCW than Punk or Mysterio ever were in WWE. His weird cahoots with Russo isn't one of his better qualities. Or his role on TNA.

I think Jarrett was a more valid World Champ in WCW than Punk or Mysterio ever were in WWE.

I will agree here, but only because of the crop of talent he was being measured against. Jarrett's biggest opponents then were, if memory serves, DDP, Booker, Steiner, and a broken down Hogan. In that crowd, Jarrett is a decent champion, but if you're fronting that crowd in your company, you have bigger problems to deal with.

I could care less about him. It seems like he just took little bits of his favorite wrestlers and combined them into his own persona.

Pretty much echoing everyone here. Didn't mind him as a midcarder in the WWF, but it's kind of sad that towards the end he had to get over by playing the sexist abusive role against Debra and Chyna.

The ongoing Angle/Jarrett thing in TNA is getting ridiculously boring, though. Seems like that shit's lasted most of Angle's TNA run.

I didn't really like him when he was in WWF. I liked him a little more when he entered WCW though. I liked his short stay with that company. After that, stopped caring.

Vince McMahon never gave JJ that big main event push because he didn't see him as "that guy" for his company. Vince McMahon was right.

Unfortunately, Vince Russo and Jeff were buddies, so when Russo showed up in WCW, it wasn't long before Jarrett was one of the main event players.

I agree with pretty much all that has been said here. He's not a bad wrestler at all; he's very solid in the ring. But there's nothing significant enough about his style or his entertainment value that makes him a main eventer. He's bland as all hell in the ring, even down to his lame ass finisher. And now, with his own company and Russo once again behind the pen, Jarrett can still make sure he's portrayed as a world championship athlete, when simply put, he's not at all.

The only time I liked Jarrett was for the period from Mayhem 2000 to Starrcade 2000, up to and including his awesome US Title Ladder Match against Benoit. I liked the matches he had with DDP over the World Title in 2000, but I mostly attribute the quality of those matches to Page more than Jarrett. He made a good block in the building of the new nWo, but when it died and he became the "leader," I knew it wasn't going to work.

So that's about it with Jarrett. hopefully he will retire some day soon so that TNA can maybe continue to grow.

I liked him in WWF and in WCW around '99 and 2000. To be honest since then I haven't seen much of him.

Pretty much all my feelings in here. Decent mid card, didn't mind the IC belt, crap in WCW.

And I hate the guitar. Has he ever held it like a guitar?

Anybody Thrilla
03-28-2009, 01:31 PM
I like the guitar only because it seems like a nod to his original mainstream roots as Double J, and that was the only time I kinda liked him. Hated him as a kid, but that was the goal.

The entire premise of Jarrett's first heel run in the WWF was pretty preposterous.

"Double J, Jeff Jarrett wants to use the WWF as a stepping stone to launch his country music career!" -Vince McMahon

Somebody gave this man bad advice. Unlike previous "career" gimmicks (Duke "The Dumpster Droese, The Goon, Dean Douglas), this guy wasn't a former anything. He wanted to better himself by way of professional wrestling. What?

Actually, his fued with Chyna was probably the best time in his career. It was when I enjoyed him the most, and I think he played an uppermidcard heel nicely at this time.

The problem is, after jobbing to Chyna, he showed up in WCW and practically ran the table. I don't think that made much sense, and it hurt him and the company both.
I feel as though he worked best as a midcard heel, and they shouldn't have gone any further

Love him as a heel, hate him as a face. Hard to deny that he's a fun wrestler to watch when he's on.

I really enjoyed him in Mid-South back when I was a10-13 year old mark. His teaming with Billy (Joe) Travis was quite excellent. He and Lawler had several feuds, swapping the roles of heel and face, and also having some face vs. face matches from time to time.

I enjoyed the whole "Don't piss me off" angle. I actually laughed out loud the first time I saw it on the guitar.

Other than that, I agree with the OP. Everything the guy has been involved with post WWF has been pretty much unwatchable for me.

I've always liked Jeff Jarrett.

Good performer in the ring, pretty good talker, good look, good charisma.

I don't necessarily say that Jarrett should always be in a main event program, but I think he should be the equal of a Chris Jericho. Someone who can play face or heel well, put on good matches, and be either in the high mid-card or main event role and still be a big star.

I thought he was ok in his WCW run, he made a good often cowardly heel who made up for his size and wrestling shortcomings with the guitar (in storyline anyway)

I could even stomach him getting a WCW title run but he should never have been the centre of things as he was.
