Maybe if we put all our bitching in here, we can get on with our lives.

They should have just let Jericho face Chavo Classic instead of wasting him at Booker T's fanfest

So the finish is a sledgehammer shot and a pedigree with you controlling most of the match with hardly any intensity and your usual match set up?

Thanks Paul!

Chris Jericho being knocked out by Mickey Rourke really unsettled me, and was the first hiccough on what I thought was a pretty sweet night (it's getting way too much bitching), but the Tag Team Title Match making the card would have been sweet. Same goes for something like Jack Swagger vs. Christian. The Brian Kendrick or R-Truth could have easily been in Money in the Bank.

The first hour of the show was fucking awful which killed the crowd, imo. (until hbk/taker)

Michael Cole was so bad last night, I mean obviously JR and King were trying to make him look like a complete retard, but the fact is, he is a complete retard. Every little comment he makes are just cringe worthy.

It was approaching 4 in the morning, so I'm going to have to watch the Main Event again, but it did seem pretty bizarre.

Other than Kid Rock sucking and the odd presentation of the Divas Battle Royal, I really liked the show.

Matt Striker should have been doing commentary. The team they used did make sense, but Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler & Matt Striker would have made a fantastic commentary team. Lawler as more the emotion color guy, Striker as an analystical one, JR as JR, and all three brands being represented.

JR was terrible too. 50% of the time it felt like he had read the dictionary the night before and was trying his best to fit his new words in. The other 50% he was just making words up.

...and all three brands being represented.

I don't think there was a single mention of the ECW brand last night. Not even during the recap of the Hardy feud.

Probably not. ECW did have Divas in the Battle Royal; they had guys in MITB and they do have a talent exchange with RAW and SmackDown!. ECW being represented in the booth may not have been crucial or anything, but it would have been better than two RAW guys and a SmackDown! guy. For mere quality alone.

Chavo Classic
04-06-2009, 08:20 AM
To be honest Noid, I didn't even identify that there was ECW talent in the ring, probably because there was no obvious verbal reference to it from the commentary team. The biggest burial last night wasn't Orton; it was a weekly C-show on the Sci-Fi channel which is about as important to the long term business model of the WWE as an unwanted Kid Rock performance.

Mr. Nerfect
04-06-2009, 08:27 AM
I agree with you. Almost all the matches were split-brand shit, though. Brand representation meant very little in the scheme of things. I haven't watched the main event yet, but did the commentary team make a deal about which brands the guys were from? For example, if I were Michael Cole or Jerry Lawler, I would have definitely been pulling for John Cena to win the Triple Threat Match, and talk about how he was going to bring the gold home to RAW. That sort of stuff didn't really come up in the angle, at all.

From the undercard stuff, the biggest brand reference I remember being made, was one that I have to make up myself. JBL and Rey Mysterio got special introductions (well, introductions when they were both in the ring) for their title match. That could have been just for effect (most likely), or because it was a title match at Mania, or because the belt has technically headlined the PPV before; but part of me likes to think it was because the IC Title was the highest ranked belt on RAW at the time.

I know that's not the case, but it's a little backstory I like to add.

Chavo Classic
04-06-2009, 08:31 AM
Yeh, that's entirely you.

I think they might have done full introductions to lengthen the build-up to the match as way to emphasise how short the actual match was in comparison; and therefore greatly exaggerate the shock and impact of Rey's flawless victory.

Mr. Nerfect
04-06-2009, 08:36 AM
Well, that would be it. I'd like to throw it into 411's Hidden Highlights, though. :shifty:

But am I the only one that was bothered by Chris Jericho getting punked by Mickey Rourke?

#BROKEN Hasney
04-06-2009, 08:40 AM
Yup. He was a boxer, why not smack him?

Mr. Nerfect
04-06-2009, 08:43 AM
Because it makes boxing look better than wrestling? I mean, sure, maybe a legit boxer could legit knock out a wrestler, but does the WWE really need to play that up themselves?

By the way, I was fully okay with Rourke getting involved and smacking Jericho one, but I don't like the way they did it. With Jericho trying to fight Rourke, and it actually looking fair. Rourke surprising Jericho mid-match with it while the referee was looking, or getting some cheap shots in on Jericho would have been glorious. Flair could have low blowed Jericho before Rourke had knocked him out.

I felt the whole thing made Rourke > Jericho > Ric Flair > Ricky Steamboat > Roddy Piper > Jimmy Snuka.

What annoyed me most was the number of annoying things.

The show was like a flame struggling to survive in the wind, there were moments of light before it began to fade and HHH blew it out once and for all.

Chavo Classic

I felt the whole thing made Rourke > Jericho > Ric Flair > Ricky Steamboat > Roddy Piper > Jimmy Snuka.

I don't think it did. Firstly, Jericho had just gone through quite a long match, had beaten three legends and could be excused for being exhausted. Rourke was taking on an already beaten-down Jericho and got a cheap win. Secondly, everyone knows Rourke was going to knock Y2J down - it doesn't matter. It's not going to do Jericho any long-term damage to have been caught off guard by a cheap shot from a former boxer.

Butterbean did more harm to the image of pro-wrestling than Rourke could ever do.

Alright, this thread rocks.

1. I understand the obvious reasons, but does anyone else think that its dumb when celebrities are involved in wrestling, most of them own the wrestlers? Aside from Kevin Federline, I can't think of any in recent memory (but then again, I am a wrestling fan, so I forget everything within 2-3 months)

2. Triple H owning Orton after weeks of owning him. Was this really the original plan? Was there a plan?

3. Rey has got to find better things to do.

4. Kid Rock dancing with Kelly Kelly and getting a kiss from Maryse. What a bastard.

I went with Loose Cannon only because there wasn't an "All of the Above" option.

Seriously, I called Orton getting Jericho'd from more or less the onset. Poor Randy.

You know, "Spoiler: Cena Wins" isn't a good thing.

I'm almost surprised that Hunter didn't put in a word to have HBM end Taker's streak.

Steamboat-Jericho sounded great. Too bad Piper and Snuka had to be part of it.

Punk? not great, but better than Mark Henry.

No ECW Title Match, No Tag Title match, but Kid Rock? WTF?

04-06-2009, 10:13 AM
I hated that they pulled the tag match, mainly because I was really looking forward to it, but also because they made NO MENTION OF IT WHATSOEVER. It was like they expected people to forget it was ever supposed to be on the show, and it was a freakin' tag title unification match.

I was also very annoyed that when Ricky Steamboat skinned the cat, the camera was elsewhere.

I just felt like it was a pretty ordinary PPV, which it shouldn't be.

I'd hyped myself up, booked the morning off work, got some beers ready......and sat to watch a fairly average show.

What was the point of having Henry in MITB anyway? He didn't do....anything.

Anybody Thrilla
04-06-2009, 10:18 AM
Henry was used as something for Hornswoggle to jump off of.

04-06-2009, 10:19 AM
I actually thought MITB was fun. Could have been better, but could have been way worse.

HBM/Taker was obviously fantastic. 'Nuff said.

And aside from those matches, I'll probably forget every other match from 'Mania by the end of the week. :-\

To be honest, the fact that they reduced the divas to a comedy segment I guess. They've been taking their time to build the womens divisions and then it goes back to someone dressed in drag at WM. I dunno, seemed like they don't really give anyone a real reason to care about women's wrestling, so why bother at all.

Legend Killer
04-06-2009, 10:25 AM
What pissed me off was that the former divas only got mentioned after they were elminated. Thank you WWE for pissing in the face of former Divas who paved the way, including former great champions like Molly Holly. WTF?!?

Maybe, HHH actually had that ending planned out for the rest of the backstage to see just how shitty the writing and match conclusions/ what nots have been, so what better way of making a statement than at the Main Event of Wrestlemania?

I voted for the tag match being dropped because I didn't get to see that, which was annoying. On paper Kid Rock, should have easily swept this vote, because he is Kid Rock, but I think most of us did what I did and muted him or left the room to get food.

The Main event, it was just awful. HHH and Orton both are terrible, the biggest match of the year bombed. I mean, when Cena/Show/Edge was better, you have problems.

HHH needs to retire already, he looks like he's about to pop a muscle or vein any minute out there.

Jeritron

I was upset that the tag match was pulled, along with the main event match/result. Both just puzzled me.

Taker vs Michaels, Jericho and Steamboat, and Austin's last hoorah were all such quality that I cannot call the show a dissapointment though.
MITB was good enough, although not the best.
Edge/Show/Cena was pretty solid.

I was very disappointed by not having the tag match. They don't have that many real tag teams and they could have put on a good show. I also wish however that it would not have been a lumberjerk match.

I don't really care that HHH won, its just how it happened and the fact that Vince, Shane, Ted, and Cody were not involved in the match at all.
