1979 by the Smashing Pumpkins. Originally I loved this because it was real mellow, and it made me feel good listening to it, and it was just one of those summer songs that was real relaxing. I started listening to it a lot, especially while driving, and I don't know there were so many times where I was stopped at a traffic light at 2 in the morning with this song playing and I would just think. I would just sit there and think about everything, just totally forgetting where I was. I went through a phase where I would listen to this song every single time I got in a car. I never got tired of it. Eventually I stopped listening to it all the time, but this song always seems to come back to me when I am "moving on" from something. Like when high school was ending, and just recently when I had relationship end really badly, or something, I don't know. I don't even know where I am going with this and I have been listening to the song the entire time I have been writing this and not thinking about anything I am writing and this is just one big stream of consciousness

I know it will sound cliche for me
Fade To Black - Metallica
Growing up, I listened to alot of country as my parents did the same so I grew up listening to such artists as Garth Brooks, Sammy Kershaw, Kenny Chesney, Etc. Now while those guys are awesome for country music and where I am from are commonly heard by all the kids as I grew up in the country. The above song really got me into other genres
Heres how it went. I was hanging with my buddy Peter during the first few days of school in 7th grade and he was playing something on his CD player, I asked to hear it and I loved it and I asked who it was, he replies "Are you serious?" I reply "Ive only ever had a bunch of country played around me man"
So he says listen to the CD, there was from memory
Fade to Black - Metallica
In The End - Linkin Park
Destroy All - Static-X
Paint it Black - Rolling Stones
I quite enjoyed what I was hearing, So I asked him to make me a CD with this kind of stuff on it and it went from there.
So honestly, that song is what got me listening to metal and hard rock, which to this day I favor over any other genre.
Now when I hear the song, it reminds me of the good times I had with friends back in high school, especially the line
"Life it seems will fade away, drifting farther everyday"
As time goes on the memories are hazy, but they are still there to remember :)

Shout by Tears For Fears
The way it is structured, the lyrics, the general sound... all perfect for me. I'm an 80's fiend and with this, the production and mixing teams got it back on and captured exactly what Orzabal and Smith were after.

Three way tie:
Minus the Bear - Absinthe Party at the Fly Honey Warehouse
The Appleseed Cast - Steps and Numbers
Cursive - A Gentleman Caller
Each one represents something different I love about music, and are kind of inseparable as a result of being equally awesome but so fundamentally different.

Baba O'Riley by The Who. It gives me goosebumps, and once brought tears to my eyes.
I have been thinking about this for a couple of days, and right now my answer would probably be 賢者のプロペラ. Nice melody, and it is all around a feel good song.

I was skimming over before I posted. Unreal that someone beat me to it.
There are like 1,000 songs I prob would answer to this on various days but today I would answer that.
Me and a roomate discussed it once and decided that it was probably the best song ever
There are a lot of songs from that era that I qualify as "best songs ever"
