View Full Version : Eugene
From the newsboard:
Reports indicate that OVW talent Nick Dinsmore is working dark matches as the wrestler "Eugene." WWE is hoping to debut Eugene on TV in the near future. Eugene's character who loves wrestling, and is baed on Warren from the movie; There's Something About Mary.
-----------------------------
Well I'm anxious to see what happens if Dinsmore does appear on RAW or Smackdown as "Eugene." There's a possibility that it could offend a few people, but then again if the burning buildings during Kane's intro at WMXX didn't offend people then who knows about this.

I know Dinsmore and Conway were a tag team, but for those that know a lot about them, who was the better of the two?
I guess we'll wait and see how this plays out.
P.S. I'm going to mark out if he says "have you seen my baseball?"
Or "frank and beans!"

I've never seen that movie - who is "Warren"?
Seems to me that a wrestler with a persona based off of a character from a comedy film from several years ago is doomed to failure though.

I wonder why they waste a piece of talent like Dinsmore with a gimmick that is doomed to fail. Why not give it to a guy with no talent likt Jon Heindereich or something.

Probably cause Nick already has a nice fan base. They can't have someone who fans already like come in and take heat away from HHH, Taker and Hardcore ya know.

LOL.
To be honest, I'm a little intrigued with this gimmick. It's not a "main-event" gimmick obviously (and so there would have to be a gimmick change for the future if the WWE have intentions of pushing Dunsmore as a main-eventer), but I think it could be decent initially.
Think of Val Venis' pornstar gimmick. It was doomed to fail (in terms of Val using that gimmick to become a main-eventer), but it was pretty decent for the SHORT term in garnerning interest. Val received respectable face heat for over a year because of the gimmick.
The WWE can always change Dunsmore's gimmick at a later date.

Val Venis was doomed to fail? huh?
Val was just an updated version of Rick Rude, which was an over gimmick. Yeah he had to tweak it to main event, but it wasn't the kind of gimmick that made him look like a moron. It was a gimmick that showed he got chicks, which is never bad.
The problem with this Dinsmore gimmick is that he is going to be portrayed as a moron, which isn't good. With this gimmick he's basically going to have to say that he was just faking in order to get into the WWE, which is always horrible.
Like I said before, why not use this gimmick with a guy with no talent?

Just the childish mark in me thinks it would be funny if a 'retard' started annihalting his opponents with a series of technical wrestling moves. :shifty:

It's a wrestler. Who's based on a character from "There's Something About Mary." This will be bad.

Maybe to follow up on this "There's Something About Mary" angle, have Stacy Keibler play "Eugene's" sister. Then have Rob Conway turn face and play Ben Stiller's character in the movie. Befriend both of them and Conway and "Eugene" can form a tag team.

I can't remember Warren from TSAM liking wrestling.

Heyman basically said the Val Venis gimmick was stupid and limiting or whatever.
My point is that with Val, while some may think its a stupid the gimmick, it didn't hurt him becuase the gimmick itself wasn't negative. The gimmick was Val is a porn star and gets laid a lot. Thats a positive in my book. Whereas with this Dinsmore gimmick they will be making up to be moron, I dont see how he can recover form that. Other than basically saying at some point that he was playing a character, which is usually suicide in wrestling.

Now come on guys...Wrestling retards have gotten over in the past. Just look at Scott Steiner and Goldberg.
Seriously, though, what about Bubba Ray Dudley? When he came to the WWF he had to slap himself in the back of the head to stop stuttering. The retard gimmick will pass and he'll move onto other things.

Me too. I think he annoyed everyone, but with me it was personal because he looks like my friend who is lazy and won't get a job because the unemployment checks pay for everything he wants.

Heyman basically said the Val Venis gimmick was stupid and limiting or whatever.
No.
I wasn't trying to imply that the Val Venis gimmick was 'stupid'. I do however, believe that it would've been impossible for Val Venis to become a MAIN-EVENTER with that gimmick (or atleast be accepted amongst the fans as a main-eventer with that gimmick).
In terms of getting initial attention however, I think Val Venis' gimmick was excellent. It was unique (to some degree), and it got him a lot of attention.
If the WWE had intentions of pushing Val as a main-eventer however, then a new gimmick was needed (which is one reason why they always changed Val's gimmick when he made his heel turns).
Is Dunsmore's gimmick stupid? Yes.........one could definitely argue that. However.......can this gimmick potentially get him INITIAL attention? (due to the uniqueness and comedy associated with it). Yes. Is this a 'gimmick' that one could use as a main-eventer? No. HOWEVER..........he can always have a gimmick change. Wrestlers have done this all the time. Triple H has re-invented himself on numerous occassions. Stone Cold used to be the Ring Master. Edge has re-invented himself,........as did Buh Buh Ray Dudley when he dropped the stuttering. Not too long ago, Dave Batista was Deacon Batista.
The CyNick - you argue that perhaps a 'less talanted' wrestler should get a gimmick like this.
I have to say the following to that - how many times do you see a talanted wrestlers (with no gimmick or a 'bland' gimmick) get held back because of that? Time after time again, we have seen great WRESTLERS get held back due to a 'bland' gimmick. Think about guys like Dean Malenko for instance. Think about Lance Storm.
My opinion - give this gimmick a shot. At worst, the WWE can always change it.........and the fans won't give a sh</>it, just as they didn't with Triple H, Austin, Batista, etc.
