When you watch foreign stuff, which do you prefer.
I like subtitled, because dubbed stuff looks pretty ridiculous with the lips not matching the words. And I'd rather hear a language I don't understand and read the dialogue than listen to the oftentimes horrible voice acting.
With animated stuff, it's a little better, but the va is still pretty weak, and I still prefer the sub, barring a few exceptions.

Why??
I'm a pretty avid reader and I like to not miss anything.. You'd be surprised how much more you'll get out of a movie, watching it with the subtitles on.. Specially foreign movies that speak English, like Snatch..

Subtitles. I can't deal with Dubs anymore, especially since half the ones I've seen are awful. Take Ichi the Killer, or the Death Note anime... Dear fucking god were those awful dubs.

Yeah the guy who played kira in the dub usually plays emotional, angsty characters. Not (most of the time)cool and collected characters like light

They're not even hilariously bad like playstation dubs. Just bad.

to be honest i think almost everyone on here will prefer subtitles, because we post on an internet forum and that means we all know how to read. only complete fucking mongs get annoyed cause a film has subtitles.

Only a fucking idiot would say dubbed. I mean unless it is a completely ridiculous movie or like a kung fu movie and I don't really care, then it doesn't matter. But if it's an actual good movie, it is ridiculous to prefer dubbed.
Like I remember Zelda posted something about seeing Wedding Crashers dubbed in French. Like come on. That turns it into a completely different movie.

Light Yagami was fcukin great though in the dub. He was perfect/ I think WWKD has a bias thoigh.
Death Note was a great dub.
Yes Subtitles area better though.

The dub was not good, I've seen both, trust me. Light didn't sound awful dubbed, but he sounded way better in the original. However, L and Ruk are fucking awful in the dub. Seriously fucking bad, especially compared to the original.

Basically, in the dub, Light is whinier, Ruk sounds evil, and L sounds like a Brit.

I like subtitles, but some dub jobs can be good.
I think the copy of Oldboy I have is dubbed. It's done amazingly though and I don't notice it.
Most of the time I'd prefer subtitles though, like on Pan's Labyrinth or something. Once I get into the movie I can't recall ever noticing.

Did not expect this. Almost everyone I talk to prefers dubbed. They "can't be bothered to read" while watching a movie.
Fucking ingrates.

however i think old shitty kung fu movies need to be dubbed. it's just not as fun otherwise.

Yes, I hate when people are like "I don't feel like reading"
The Mask makes a great point though. I agree.

i am tempted to start an old shitty kung fu movie thread or something where we all watch one shitty kung fu movie a month or fortnight or something and rate it on criteria such as fights, dialogue, most funny ridiculous line etc. plus since they're old shitty kung fu movies you can pick them up for next to nothing.
Subs
Polish dubbing his hilarious though, even more so after a few beers. Like I remember watching movies over there, Total Recall for instance, you could still hear the English being spoken underneath it, and the Polish voice actors were ridiculous:y:

It's because over half of Quebec doesn't speak English, so dubbing has become a huge industry, and most theaters in the province show French versions of American movie. If we want to see the original version, we have to go out of our way to see it. I also have to be with someone who understands English, such as Zelda or my brother. Most of my friends however barely understand English, so when we rent a movie, I have to argue in order to watch it in the original version or else I get stuck with the horrible dub.
But yeah, it does change the sense of some of the dialogue.

Damn really? They don't learn english in school? That is kinda weird. Like even when I went to Palestine a lot of the kids there more or less understood english.

Since its not 1996 anymore, most dubs don't suck unless their meant for little kids, and even then its not a bastardization of the original script.
So I pretty much don't care either way, for anime that is. If it was like some foreign film, I'd want subs, since matching animated mouth flaps looks way smoother than matching real life mouth flaps.

Yeah, we do learn English in school, but in the same way you would have Spanish classes in school or something. Once people are out of school, most people won't bother perfecting themselves, so they only know the basics.
Unless you're me, and you really, really want to finish The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Then you learn English the hard way.

Dubbing in Slovakia is awesome. it's done so well. The words really do look like they're being said by the actor.
Pisses me off when they have a dub for the credits though.

Ok, you've lost me.
Next time you watch one of your favorite movies, turn on the subtitles, and I bet you catch a line or two you've missed every other time you've watched it..
Back in the day, me and my "brother" Iceberg Lettus were all hype to see Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon at the theater.. We left high school, smoked a fatty and went straight to the theater.. Anyway, there was this lady with these 2 or 3 little kids right behind us trying to read the subtitles to the kids for like the whole movie..

Got to be subtitled, although now Hollywood is ruining alot of foreign films with remakes who needs dubbed.

I feel you on that. I was practically fluent in French when I graduated high school, but now I can't even put a sentence together because I haven't had a use for it in years. :'(
