View Full Version : World Championships
Are there any wrestling titles except for the heavyweight titles (e.g. wwe, wcw, ecw & tna) that are considered as World Championships?

ROH World Title. I think it's one of the few "Main Event" World Titles in a major promotion that isn't attached to a "Heavyweight" name.

I have no clue what you are asking
Did the women & light weight wrestlers have their World titles?
Tag titles, for one.
A lot of promotions have a "world" title, no matter how ridiculous it may be.
What about the X division belt and the CW belt?

As for mainstream companies, I dont think that the X title and the CW belts are referred to as "World" titles...except wCw was called the World CW title.

The word "world" in world titles is pretty much bullshit anyways.
Like the World Series calling itself such, even tho the world champion is decided in the classic.

Figgy is right. But if you're gonna say that defend the title around the world makes it a world title than the RoH title is more of a world title than the TNA belt really.

I think Kurt Angle has defended it in Japan.

Could have been IWGP belt though... Also could have been both.

I think only the IWGP belt was defended.
I think a TNA belt will almost certainly go over to a NJ wrestler in the near future, tho.
What about the US championship being defended outside the US (I can't name any times off hand but I'm positive it happened)?
Just saying, the name conventions usually mean very little unless it comes to weight/team/gender restrictions. And even "weight" has its problems ("heavyweight").

I know Kensuke Sasaki won the US title back in 95, but I don't know if he ever defended it in NJPW at all.

I guess for it to be recognised as having 'World' status it would have to be recognised by an independent body. It all depends on what you recognise as a world title and what they requirements they should meet to achieve that status.
PWI has recognised:

I would consider the following to be World Titles:
WWE Championship
World Heavyweight Championship
ECW Championship
TNA World Heavyweight Championship
NWA World Heavyweight Championship
AWA World Heavyweight Championship
WCW Championship
WCW International World Heavyweight Championship
I'm not sure about the ROH World Championship. I'd love to say so, but mmm.
