View Full Version : THE OFFICIAL SHELTON BENJAMIN APPRECIATION THREAD

Enough said. The man deserves his own thread. He beat the Game last night (who might as well change his name to "The Jobber") and I liked him on SD! But tonight, he impressed me a whole shit load more. He'll be upper mid card for awhile and then I think he'll become a main event jobber by the end of the year, but he will feud with Orton for the strap in 2005.

Damn, you got me grinning again at the memory :D :D
Shleton definitely impressed me. I'll admit that I didn't really see why everyone drooled over him and Haas as WGTT, but now that each of them are out of each others shadows, I am totally blown away. Haas is pretty good, but right now, SHELTON IS THE MAN! :D :D :D

Just like JR said "It was all about the Benjamin". Definently I think all fans will look at him in a different way now with what he just did. I think that like you said he will hold the IC title but I think he will hold it this year. Cant wait to see him in his next match.

It's all about the Benjamin on Raw again. Shelton impressed the hell out of me and I knew he was good.. but on his first night, beat HHH, and put on one hell of a show. And I think he'll prob get the IC title soon than later, possibly after Backlash after this show.

I hope they capitalize on this, but as we've seen before a lot of times these kinds of wins happen, and then nothing happens with the guy who gets the win.
If Shelton is put with the top guys form now on, and he doesn't get punked by HHH, then I'll say HHH did something worthwhile. But, if in 3 weeks Shelton is doing JOBs or he gets beat by HHH, then it will mean nothing.

How can you be a Main Event Jobber?
That is like saying Derek Jetter is a Minor League All-Star
Or Pete Rose is a WWE Hall Of Famer. Wait, cancel that, he is :$

SHELTON BENJAMIN = The New ROCK
Look, I've been a fan of his since the MWC, but he's no Rock. He's incredible in the ring, always has been, but he doesn't have the look or the charisma. Everything else is there, but you can't be 'The Rock' without those two things.

Jericho was one for quite some time. Rockk (even though he's over as shit) is sorta one, because he puts people over non stop (which is a good thing.)

Agreed.
Everyone just remember that Hurricane beat The Rock (pretty sure it was Rock) in a very similar way and it did nothing for him.
HOWEVER. HOLY SHIT SHELTON!

Well i've never been a huge fan of Shelton, personally i always thought that Hass was better, but from the sounds of it he put on a decent match. and that new tag line he's got 'it's all about the Benjamin' sounds good, i like that. Anyways all the power to him, but they gotta keep the heat coming and not just forget about this, they need him in a feud with Batista or Falir or something to keep him in a feud to keep the fans interested in him.

I always said Shelton and Haas should split up, now Shelton has finally got the shot that he needs...though Haas i think wont get a push on Smackdown! and will be used in a wrong way IMO, still he deserved to win yesterday and he did :y: up for Shelton Benjamin

Are you kidding? He was able to put on a match that had the entire crowd behind him and cheering for him! This is even more impressive considering that he really isn't all that well known as a singles star. Whether you like a guy or not, when someone gets an entire audience to cheer for him in a main event of a show, they deserve credit.
I've always thought that Shelton had the makings of a star. I hope Haas gets a push out of the WGTT split, because he is an excellent talent as well.

I never really cared for him, much in the same sense as I don't care for Jericho. But all of this seems to be "Jumping on the Shelton Wagon" now. It seems more like everyone is liking him to stay liked than they are to actually like him.. :-\

I honestly did like him a long time ago, not jumping on a bandwagon. I've said before how much I loved WGTT, and on the old board with my other SN I praised him too. He rules. But the thing is, he really did put on a great performance that got people to really see what he is capable of more than ever before. So people are going to be noticing him more than they might have before after a great match on Monday.

i have said before that i would like to see SB become the IC champ and a big star. however, rather than being thrusted into the main events, i would rather see him as an anchor for the IC title for a couple years to develop his character, much like bret hart.
as for Haas, i think he is slightly more technically sound in the ring, and could also develop into a future star. i think benjamin has the better 'package' though, with his look, and the relative uniqueness of an african american with that kind of ameteur background.

Those Shelton chants weren't because people love and adore Shelton Benjiman it's because people absolutly loath Triple H. The reason why the crowd was so solidly behind Shelton was because Triple H is such an effective heel. All of that being said Shelton put on a good match, I loved those Ricky Steamboat like deep arm drags. I expect that Shelton will job to Triple H before Backlash, and I think he should. Shelton shoulcn't be main event, however I think after Orton is done with Foley I think we should see a good Randy Orton/Shelton Benjimin feud.

Yes Shelton Benajamin rules all right now. I loved the facial expressions by him in the match last night. When he kept taking down HHH and catching him with holds, he would give this sort of "You dam right" sort of smile. He played the underdog perfectly last night and the all the close falls were really great. I definately think the WWE will push him a lot more. And to the person who compared Hurricane with Shelton on how Hurricane got a big win over The Rock and then they never pushed him. That won't happen with Shelton because he's got a lot more to offer then the Hurricane. I never saw Hurricane ever breaking away from the lower mid card, but Shelton has what it takes to be WWE Champion a few years from now.
Oh and BTW, they really need to change his music. WGTT was one of my favorite themes and it was very recognizable. He needs a theme more like that cause it's to generic right now.
I called Shelton and Matt Morgan (before his debut) future WWE champions within 3 years 9 months ago and got laughed at.

Glad that HHH is jobbing again :)
 I love how everyone starts saying how much they've "ALWAYS LOVED SHELTON BENJAMIN" after he beats Triple H clean. Kinda like how people cum all over a wrestler after they die, and say they loved them sooo much. ****ing sheep.
Anyways, I thought it was a good match, but not as great as everyone is saying it was. They probably used like 5 moves each, and most of the match was Shelton cranking Triple H in that arm bar. I'm not complaining though; great to see the Game give something back to the newer superstars of the WWE.
And with the rumors that McMahon and company are very high on Shelton Benjamin, we can rest assured that next week on RAW Benjamin isn't just going to be buried and sent down to mid-card hell. The guy is talented, no doubt about that, but I wouldn't call him the next Rock, simply because nobody will ever have the kind of charisma The Rock has. I see him as more of the next Kurt Angle, if anything. They have similar backgrounds and very similar styles. Benjamin is only going to get better as time goes on.
I'd love to see a Benjamin/HHH rematch at Backlash, but that probably won't happen. Maybe they will add him to the main event and make it a fatal fourway. Or maybe even a fatal fourway ladder match  ! Either way, great match, great talent, and a definite up and comer.
Last night it most definitely was all about the Benjamins (I had to say it).
I don't love him. I think he is a prospect but I ain't getting hard nipples over a "Hogan puts Kidman over" type job.

Shelton Benjamin is tremendous. His match last night was great, but since I've been watching him on SD, that wasn't a surprise. What was a surprise was the amount of character and charisma he showed. Benjamin has a very bright future.
I see Flair putting him over at Backlash.

OK, Everyone please stop jumping on bandwagons. Please stop this madness because it is out of control. From now on, when a wrestler wins a big match and you didn't like him before, you're not aloud to say anything great about him. This is the way it's going to be around here from now on. If you didn't like that wrestler before, you need to apply for a membership card in order to start liking him if he/she ever gets big. Okay, thanks for your cooperation.
Oh and I've always liked WGTT. Just look at some of my old threads.

I always liked the World's Greatest Tag Team and I wanted them to win at Wrestlemania. Shelton needs a good gimmick and he'll be uber-over. No doubt some huge cheers are coming his way after beating the Game. This is unprecedented for Triple H; when was the last time he won a match!?
Also, I think J.R. figured out Shelton's catchphrase for him.

Bandwagon jumping? Hardly. Most people here were very vocal about loving WGTT. This is the first time most have got to see Shelton work a singles match. He hooked them. I don't consider that bandwagon jumping.

I'd like to see Shelton Benjamin continue to fued with evolution, maybe face batista at backlash, then with the IC strap soon, he just needs a good gimmick to follow up a huge win.
I don't think HHH has won a match since Royal Rumble, which was a draw. Before that I think it was Armageddon. He's wrestled two Raws in a row, thats unheard of, he only wrestles PPVs and rests out the whole match only to jump in at the end and get a cheap win, that probably explains why he never thinks his opponent can carry a one-on-one fued, its so he can be lazy.

LOL Like I'm really going to look through your old threads for examples of you liking the WGTT. Please, LC.
I never said that no one was allowed to say anything great about him. If you actually read my whole post you'd see that I complimented him as well, and it was a good match, no doubt about that. I was merely commenting on the fact that it seemed like everyone was trying to play it off like they'd always seen a main event star in Benjamin, even though I'm sure most of them only really noticed that he could potentially be that big last night.
It's like if the Bashams broke up, and Danny scored a pinfall over Triple H, I'm sure people would be saying that they'd "always seen a huge star in Danny Basham."
It's the same thing with returning wrestlers. When there were rumors circulating that Steve Blackman was coming back, there were people on this board literally freaking out at the prospect of having Mr. Expressionless on our TV sets again, saying that they'd "always loved him and can't wait till he gets back." Same thing with Farooq and the APA when they came back awhile ago. Everyone was so ****ing happy that he APA was back, and when they DID come back they were still the same power-move-only wrestlers they've always been. I just find it funny.
And now I'm done.
