View Full Version : Do YOU feel "short-changed" by Judgment Day?

XL

Hometown Hero with a loss. No Divas. A segment with Miz and Chavo!? No title changes. No real storyline developments (as far as I can see).

I was wondering what everyones take on Judgment Day was?

NOTE: I put the term short-changed in speak marks as I know that some won't have paid and thus probably won't feel short changed.

I thought JD was not horrible. The Miz/Santino segment was hilarious, especially when Santino thought Alfonso Soriano was Italian. The match quality was top notch. Morrison, Shelton, CM Punk, and Umaga all were showcased in a PPV. Other than the MITB match, I enjoyed Judgment Day more than Wrestlemania.

What were the other matches like, in particular Jericho/Mysterio and Edge/Hardy?

I ordered it, and was very satisfied. A very solid wrestling PPV. No diva match suits me fine, and I don't feel "ripped off" by the fact no titles changed. As long as the matches are good then I'm happy. And granted I don't exactly order a PPV to watch segments but that Miz and Santino stuff was a great filler.

Just MITB? No other matches on WrestleMania outshined the matches at Judgement Day huh? ... None? None at all?... Huh?

P.s. Jericho vs. Rey was pretty sweet as well as the Punk/Umaga and Morrison/Benjamin matches.

This question may need to be rethought by many now that... (Highlight below for spoilers)

At least 5 of the 7 matches are now confirmed to be done again at Extreme Rules in the form of gimmick matches, making it all one big setup for the next PPV.

The PPV sucked in general. Not a good match on the card.

Have you seen the Extreme Rules card? Looks like we're going to see the same shit over again.

You are absolutely ridiculous.

I thought every match was between decent and good. I didn't pay for it either, but if I would have, I wouldn't have been upset. You don't need title changes to makes a good PPV.

But do you not feel ripped off by the fact that there was little to no progression in any of the stories, thus Extreme Rules becomes a re-hash?

Not really. My favorite part of PPVs are the matches.

Good show. Lots of good matches. What a silly little question to ask.

to be fair, most of the matches are feuds that have only gotten going, like Batista/Orton, Edge/Jeff (again), Jericho/Mysterio and Morrison/Benjamin. Of course these feuds are going to continue, why shouldn't they?

Add to that the fact that all the world titles changed hands at Backlash, they were never gonna change hands again so soon.

Judgment Day was awesome (as was Backlash), so no I do not feel "short-changed" in the slightest.

A PPV win or loss can only fuel a storyline if the PPV match isn't to end the fued.

Retribution

Dominance

This is actually how wrestling should be booked. I know it's weird. You will get used to it.

I agree with that statement and I like it as long as there is some reason in the storyline to have another match.

I can see Batista vs. Orton, obviously that rematch makes sense. Orton tried to get himself DQed, succeded and now they put it in a cage to get a clear winner.

I can see Cena vs. Show. The setup for it being a submission match was really good with Cena not being able to lock on the STF.

Mysterio vs. Jericho and Edge vs. Hardy dont make sense. I like the thought that when a champion beats the challenger, a new challenger steps up while the old one has to work his way back. If there was a clear winner in the first one, why suddenly have the match again? It's just lazy booking to me.

Up until the main events, the matches were amazing. The Santino/Miz/Chavo section seemed really long and out of place, and also served to divide the great matches from the uneventful main events. All in all, I could point to flaws, but I had a good time.

this ppv was good. we got some quality midcard feuds going, we saw some matches built for the next ppv. I enjoyed the card.

I'll give you Mysterio/Jericho (which hasn't been booked for Extreme Rulz yet), but Jeff was cheated out of the title by Matt Hardy, in a sense (whom according to Raw was acting to get in Vickie's good graces. Makes sense to grant him a rematch. They'll explain on SmackDOWN!, sort of.

Mysterio vs. Jericho in a No Holds Barred match has been booked. Really just a random stip too.

I would have loved to have seen Edge vs. Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk vs. Umaga vs. Kane vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho vs. John Morrison in a TLC Match at Extreme Rules for the World Heavyweight Championship. Just saying. They could have then made room for quite a few other matches.

I just wanna point that I wasn't necessarily feeling short changed myself - especially as I didn't watch the whole show.

I really like what they have been doing with Christian (in that he comes across as very "ring savvy" in the way he uses the ring to avoid his opponent/reverse moves etc.) and the ECW Title match in general was good. As were Benjamin/Morrison and Jericho/Mysterio. I saw bits of Big Show/Cena and that was about it.

I was merely asking, given the way that modern wrestling is - so many titles, frequent title changes, storylines driven by promos/skits rather than the ring action, etc - if this PPV felt like a letdown.

Obviously the IWC is a small group of fans that appreciate the art of the in-ring performance and so, theoretically, we should be happy seeing a PPV that has plenty of great matches but little in the way of storyline progression.

Judgment Day was alright, but of the last 3 PPV's WWE has had, the best by far (IMHO, folks, I am not stating this as an absolute fact) was Backlash, not WM 25, and that is saying something right there. I don't know what it is but it can't possibly be a good thing.

No divas (aka the piss break match) is a bad thing?

XL
05-21-2009, 05:51 PM
No.

But it is different to what we are used to - as is the lack of titles changing hands, etc. That was the point of the question.

I guess I should ask "IYO is this change a change for the good?".

Well, it seems WWE is actually building up feuds at all levels on the card and developing characters and such instead of just saying "fuck it" until around SummerSlam.

XL
05-21-2009, 06:06 PM
That's a good call and a good thing.

Makes me wonder if they went ahead with the plans to have certain writers concentrate on specific wrestlers/fueds/areas of the card.

If it was good, you would have been more than likely to pay for it.

That's not true. There's a group of friends that I meet up with once a month to watch the PPV at Hooter's. If it was the Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania, we would have just gone to someone's house and watched it. The card would not have changed that. Actually, I thought the card looked really good on paper. So basically, shut up.

Hooter's and WWE...It's funny though when some of the Divas are on at the Hooter's I sometimes go to, and the waitresses look at them and say "They're so fake." All I can do after that is quietly snicker.

They are doing a 70% rerun at Extreme Rules.
#1. Edge vs Jeff for the belt
#2. Orton vs Batista for the belt
#3. Cena vs Show
#4. Punk vs Umanga
#5. Jericho vs Rey for the belt

"Rerun" implies that the matches are exactly the same. All of the matches at Bad Name Pay-Per-View will have unique stipulations unlike the matches at the previous event.

I think Extreme Rules is gonna be more interesting because of the stips

and I hope Jericho wins this time

Oh and I NEVER pay for wrestling so I dont feel shortchanged (well other than some old pirated VCDs a few years back).
