I'm sure some people would expect me to like them. Some people would be wrong.

I do like the odd spot of slightly droney stuff, but Sunn 0))) are just a load of tuneless crap.

Ditto, mainly because for all their drugged out jamming, they still manage to have actual songs.

I listened to 3 minutes of that shit, and when Stonehenge didn't decend from the lighting rig I realised that it wasn't Spinal Tap.

Quite possibly the biggest pile of dog shit I have ever seen.

Drone Metal - fuck off

Why did I just waste a minute of my life watching some faggot in a cloak let distortion come through his amp. Fullstop.

Lol considering you have been torn to pieces here I thought I would offer a small amount of support. In small doses a bit of drone metal is ok. Its not something I listen to a lot of but if the mood catches me its alright.

That said Sunn o))) aren't exactly a band that you can youtube a video of and say HEY GUYS CHECK THESE OUT, because they don't translate that well to one song on youtube IMHO.

What. I actually sat through and watched the whole 9 minutes or w/e afterwards, and it sounds like they literally just let the distortion from a single note ring through the entire time. How can that possibly be enjoyable? Awful. Simply awful.

They must offer something considering they make a living as a group.

It is interesting and is nice music to have on while you do shit. Its not music you would put on to dance to or anything like that but it has its purpose. I prefer stuff like Stars Of The Lid when it comes to Drone music but the heavier Drone Metal is nice too. Just general ambiance etc.

It's like post rock or post metal.

Now that wasn't bad - at least there's a bit of a tune to it, more like something you'd hear on a soundtrack.

I still won't pretend to get the appeal of Sunn 0))) though, despite liking a lot of stuff that other people might call un-listenable noise.

It is quite un-listenable noise, but the big thing I don't understand is how is this in any way classified as metal? Are they just trying to make it sound cooler than it quite obviously isn't?

Suppose it's the heaviness aspect of it - plus the two main members were once better known for being in more 'traditional' metal bands.

Not to sound like a total ass, but the car one actually sounds better since it has *any* melody at all.

Of course I am serious. It isn't music for everyone and as I said it isn't music that you can just chuck on and enjoy but it has a purpose.

Obviously there are SOME people who like it.

Now that wasn't bad - at least there's a bit of a tune to it, more like something you'd hear on a soundtrack.

It took me AGES to get into "drone rock". I downloaded a heap of Stars Of the Lid because I have a friend into it but I couldn't "get" it for ages. I was listening to their albums last night and its just nice music. Kind of like how post rock is to me.

Without being AWESOME post rock (metal) like Agalloch, most of that stuff is just background music. Agalloch on the other hand is brilliant.

it sounds like the sound of thing you'd think up when you're pissed and it'd be hilarious. "hey let's wear capes and pretend we're fucking mystical wizards of droning distortion and sell it to idiot alternative kids who don't know any better" and then watch as somehow it got lapped up and you got to tour the world because people are thick.
