technical ability and a great storyline are the most important to me..... HBK/Bret at WM 12 was great teachnically, same for Angle/Benoit at RR '03..... matches like HBK/Taker at WM25 and HHH/HBK at SS '03 were great storylines and captured the emotion of the crowd and fans....

I like matches that tell a good story within the matches themselves. For example, Edge v Undertaker at Mania XXIV. Throughout the match Edge countered and/or kicked out of all of Taker's big moves, sometimes on multiple occasions. It was like Taker had nothing to dish out that Edge hadn't prepared for and that Edge would simply outmaneuver Taker for the victory. Then, all of a sudden, Taker pulls his new submission out of nowhere and Edge had no way of countering it, causing him to lose the match.

Ya... pretty much that. That match is one of my favorite matches in the past few years for those reasons.

A match that makes me believe again. Use the action, the storylines, or the connection we end up having with the wrestlers, make me believe.
When RVD beat Cena at One Night Stand I was so overwhelmed I almost cried.
Ric Flair vs HBK at WM24 wasn't just any match, it was something magical.
Bret Hart vs Steve Austin from WrestleMania 13.... I don't need to say anything about it.
Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat for the IC title was nothing short of epic.

These matches (and more) to this day can help me get lost, away from reality. A little escapism is good for the soul.

My favorite matches have always been the underdog matches. A guy who has never had his break and who no one would ever expect to win the big one goes and does it on a big stage. Even the matches where they just come close are usually some of the best ones, IMO.

- Jeff Hardy vs. Undertaker - Undisputed Title Ladder Match (RAW)
- Rey Mysterio vs. Ric Flair - WCW World Title (Nitro)
- Chris Benoit vs. Triple H vs. HBK - World Title (WM20)
- Cactus Jack vs. Triple H - WWE Title (Royal Rumble 2000)

I think the greatest wrestling match of all time was the "I Quit" match between Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin at Wrestlemania 13, and one of the reasons why I've always loved that match is because it looked so real. It was like a shoot match, and it looked exactly like the type of fight I'd see in a bar, and what made it extra fun was the psychology of the match. It wasn't about titles, it was just about two guys who hated each other's guts, beating the tar out of each other. I also loved that there was a 50/50 split among the crowd. It adds to the fun and makes it more real because in other major sporting events (i.e. The Super Bowl, a big boxing match), the audience is usually divided, and I think it just makes you want to cheer for your favorite more.

The Hitman and Stone Cold characters were not cartoonish or comic bookish at all either. They were very realistic, and both Hart and Austin were very talented, in wrestling and on the mic, and the intensity of that feud was wonderful. Their feud and their matches convinced me wrestling may have been real.

I like Shelton vs. HBK I

the athleticism. It showed Shelton in a different light. And it looked like Shelton could win. It was just a really good match between two talented wrestlers

but my fav. will remain Bret/Austin from Mania but I also liked Jericho/HBK from Mania 19 as well as Rock/Austin from the same Mania. The feud building up to it, the story leading up to it. It all works for me in helping to create a match.

tight physical matches. Regal vs. Finlay, Bret vs. Austin

Intensity really helps. But obviously there are other types of matches I like, but when guys are really giving it to each other and feeding off the intensity it is really fun to watch.

I love the matches with great rivals like Stone Cold/Rock, Rey/Eddie, Benoit/BookerT, HHH/Batista, Taker/Stone Cold. The Batista/Taker matches where great because of the big moves and trying to top each other. I just wished that they would kick out of finishers from each other at least once or twice before the match is over. It makes it seem that everything you have done is not enough. I would like to see a Orton/Edge storyline go for awhile.

I like a good underdog match, too, but it can't be a match where I'm being told how much of an underdog the guy is...it's why I can't stand 98% of Rey Mysterio's matches. Those are great examples of guys nearly overcoming the odds to knock off a top dog.

I know I tend to beat the series to death, but I'm a huge fan of the Benoit/Austin WWF title matches from 2001 that took place in Canada. Those matches were rare in that both guys were giving 120% for TV matches, the crowd was electric because they were wrestling in Benoit's backyard and Austin was still fresh from the WrestleMania heel turn, and there were so many near falls that you actually thought there was a legitimate chance Austin could lose the title. Those matches totally pass the YouTube test for me -- if I go and watch the match on YouTube, I don't skip ahead a single second. There aren't many matches I can say that about these days.
