View Full Version : What do you think the "song of the decade" is?

Buzzkill
06-01-2009, 05:17 PM
Not necessarily the best song in your opinion but the one that you think had the combination of innovation, good sound and popularity that best represents the 2000s...

I'm thinking Hey Ya! by Outkast

So good, definitely a "classic" of this era

Buzzkill
06-01-2009, 05:30 PM
Alternatively, Snap Ya Fingers by Lil Jon. Creative masterpiece and timeless classic

Probably some horribly over produced shit with a mediocre singer having his/her pitch fixed with autotune and Lil Jon going "WHAT, YEAH, OK" all over the place.

So probably Yeah by Usher.

Buzzkill

Haha I was thinking about that Funky but couldn't bring myself to actually consider it.

I think that (Crank That) Soulja Boy represents a lot of things that were wrong with music in the last decade.

Not sure about what represents the positives, though.

If there was an official award, it would probably be something very, very stupid. Examples to come soon.

I'd guess it would probably be something daft like 'Clocks' by Coldplay

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was Blink 182 - All The Small Things. That song was massive.

I'm down with Outkast getting it with Hey Ya as well.

Maybe The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army?

I'm just throwin shit out there.

I dunno, who let the dogs out?

Fabien Barthez
06-03-2009, 07:39 PM
I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor - Arctic Monkeys.

That would be my vote, and would probably poll pretty high in a UK poll.

Side note, anybody catch the MTV's 'Album of the last 25 years'?

Craig David - Born To Do It came in at number 2. lol.

In terms of songs that will be considered legendary in the coming decades, the 2000's hasn't really released all too much.

The Chris Rosa
06-03-2009, 10:33 PM
Probably Viva la Chris Rosa...

..Or Vida. Whichever would sell Coldplay more albums.

I personally don't think it is, but if we're going by over all popularity and such, it definitely is a contender.

Another spin could be one of those stupid American Idol winners. The 00's were defined by reality TV, so what better way to represent the decade's music than by having a reality TV show winner about music picked?

Ok, really? That's the actual name of the song? And the band is called KooKooKa Fuk-U? What the fuck is wrong with musicians these days?

And I don't want to see replies about calling a band 'Cinderella' because I won't even acknowledge them. Period.

In the ranks of popularity, as much as I hate to admit it I'd go with Limp Bizkit - Rollin'. It ain't innovative, it ain't good, but it sure as hell was so irritatingly popular.

Oh yeah, and fuck Limp Bizkit.

Out of curiousity, I was looking at Billboard.com to decide what might actually be the song...

Most #1 in the 2000s is Usher with 7. No one else has more than 4...

Songs with the most time at #1 in the 2000s:

Artist Title # Weeks
Mariah Carey We Belong Together 16
Usher Yeah! 12
Eminem Lose Yourself 12
Destiny's Child Independent Women 11
Flo Rida Low 10
Beyonce Irreplaceable 10
Kanye West Gold Digger 10
Nelly Dilemma 10
Ashanti Foolish 10
Santana Maria, Maria 10

I'd pretty much have to say Yeah! is it.

06-10-2009, 03:17 AM
We Belong Together is actually a brilliant song imo

She Will be Loved was ridic popular too.

Wouldn't be shocked with anything from Blink 182, or Lose Yourself.

Actually, when the crap was 'Time of Your Life'. If that snuck into this decade, it would probably be up there2.

Mariah Carey only has the longest #1 hit single of the decade.
