My bloody valentine 3d was a pretty shit movie. BUT THE DETAIL OF THE GORE ON BLU-RAY IS FAN FUCKING TASTIC.

Give me some other movies to rent and watch in uber-definition.

I was skeptical of Blu Ray until I tried it. My jaw dropped when I first saw it.

Blu Ray is good. Still, even owning one I will never be bothered to buy most movies in Blu Ray.

I could care less if the average movie is in blu ray, since DVD quality is already great and it upconverts.
For instance, I won't re-buy any movies except for things like Star Wars and Alien, and what not, when they come out for it.

If and when dvds start coming out only on blu ray, I will obviously adopt that method, but I'm never repopulating my collection and until then I'm being selective.

As for new movies that come out, same thing pretty much. I will not spend an extra 10-15 bucks for HD on a movie like Role Models, or The Wrestler. Just big visually impressive movies really.

I plan to buy Watchmen on Blu Ray when it comes out. Same goes for Star Trek, and stuff of that nature.

I actually only own 3 blu rays. Dark Knight, Iron Man and Wall E

It's a jump in quality, but it's not the jump that VHS to DVD was.

A big part of that is convenience, and format. VHS to DVD was amazing because of the concept of scene selection, menus, no rewinding, etc.
Blu Ray is just the same thing only with HD.
That's a big part of the reason why I feel like replacing most DVDs is uneccessary, whereas when DVDs came out I went apeshit collecting movies.

They're both on discs, and dvds will play in any blu ray player. I don't think there's as much of a burden to get on board and even if you do, your old collection is fine and dandy.

Just got a sweet new TV, so I ended up renting my first blu-ray. Got Pineapple Express. Should have Dark Knight being sent to me tomorrow via netflix. I highly recommend anyone with a blu-ray player, get netflix just for the fact you can rent blu-rays for a few dollars extra.

Ditto. But for the blockbuster, big effect movies I like to own them on blu-ray.

Ghostbusters is coming out on blu ray this month for it's 25th anniversary. I might get that even though I already own it on regular dvd.

In general though, old movies aren't neccessarily better on blu ray. In most cases, it just enhances the picture to a point where it can make effects worse, over-light them, or show off the grainy film.
Some movies honestly can't get any better looking that they did on DVD, because they're just from and older time and shot on older cameras and that's that.

It depends I've noticed. I watched the original Halloween on blu ray at my friend's house and it was good, but it kind of lost some of the darkness. It also didn't improve anything other than the grain, since it was shot on a low budget camera in the 70s.

Yeah. Hi def certainly doesn't do older sci-fi films any favours.

Remember kids. Blu-Ray is just the disc, HD content (720P/1080P) is why the movie looks so good.

BBC Planet Earth at 1080P is the greatest.

I have a 32" 1080p Vizio. It does the trick quite well. Not gonna lie though, My aunt's 47" sony bravia makes me jealous as fuck because the refesh rate makes hd signals look unfuckingreal.

Fignuts
06-04-2009, 01:55 AM
Yeah, that's my thought on it. I got the sanyo just to have something that's hd.

But if you want to upgrade, there is no sense in settling for somethin like a vizio. Save the money, and get a quality name. Go all out, so you don't have to do it again for a long time.

Big Fat Mike

I like my vizio. Besides, I got it pretty cheap. Deep down, Im a jew.

Yeah I watched Pineapple Express on Blu Ray on our TV (52" Sony Bravia) and it was fucking unreal, even for a movie with very little action/explosions/etc. Need to borrow my buddy's copy of Iron Man to see on it.

My biggest complaint with Blu Ray is the cases. It's kind of a geeky complaint, but I have a lot of DVDs and shelve them. As you may know, the cases are a bit shorter.
Doesn't really matter, except for that it looks terrible and I have a touch of OCD.

As I type this, I am watching Iron Man on blu-ray via a Sony Bravia screen. A wholly satisfying entertainment experience. :y:

Absolutely can't wait to see the Watchmen blu ray.

I loved the movie, and want to see it again as soon as possible anyways. Add to that the fact that it's an extended directors cut with about an hour more.

But visually it's just going to be amazing. It's among the most visually impressive movies I've ever seen, and the colors and visuals were so rich.

I love Hi-Def. Had Sky HD for a few years now and have bought every movie on Blu Ray over DVD's since I got my PS3. Not that I do buy many movies but when I do, it's always Blu Ray from now on. Definitely worth the extra money. They're coming down in price already anyway. I got The Wrestler for £14.99 on Monday (release day here in the UK) which isn't bad at all really considering it was only a few months ago you'd pay nearly £30 for a brand new Blu Ray. The DVD was like £11.99 anyway so it would have been stupid not to go for the sweet HD.

Yeah def gonna buy The Wrestler Blu Ray soon.

True...they look cool, and the blue is nice but the size sucks. They could easily "look cool" while still being uniform.

Obivously it's to differentiate the product and make it stand out. I just don't like that

I enjoy watching my blu ray on an LG 52 inch TV. I fucking love this TV. I own about 15 DVD's that arehave Blu Ray. Iron Man, Hulk, Dark Knight are the bomb. The best movie in Blu Ray has to be 300

Just watched diary of the dead tonight. Fantesticle. Blockbuster has this thing going on where you pay $10 for the week and you get unlimited rentals, one at a time, until the end of the summer. Good for movies and games. Im gonna be spending alot of time with my PS3 over the next few months.

Only Blu Rays I have are Total Recall, T2 and Die Hard Trilogy....

Bad thing about it is that I got them for Christmas....and before I could even watch them my cousin and his girlfriend moved out and took the PS3. So now Im just waiting to get something to play them on.

Sorry, but Sony LCD's are over-rated pieces of shit. Given, they're not that bad, but any Philips or new model Samsung put them to shame.

DUDE ITS NORMALLY $5 A RENTAL AND I LIVE AROUND THE CORNER FROM BLOCKBUSTER SO I COULD PROBABLY RENT LIKE 5 OR 6 MOVIES A DAY IF I PUSH IT.

Its a good deal that way.

However , MAC, if you're paying full price on the Blu-Ray, B2G1 isn't the greatest deal. At least I dont think so .

I'd only buy Sony or Samsung. My first HDTV was a sony LCD, now being used as my PC monitor. It kicks.
My other LCD is a toshiba, it's alright, contrast is a tad shit though. Philips used to make great CRT screens, but their LCDs are shit.

Yeah def gonna buy The Wrestler Blu Ray soon.

I would not pay more than a couple bucks over the regular price for the DVD for it, though it does look good for a movie shot on a low budget with crappy cameras.

My opinion is that Wall-E is the best looking BD disc available, followed by Iron Man and the 3rd POTC movie.

Own Pan's Labyrinth & Repo: The Genetic Opera on BluRay, and want to get Full Metal Jacket & 2001 when I can find them. Maybe something like Akira or Ghost in the Shell also.

I really like the Picture-in picture commentaries they're starting to put on BluRay.
